The Amazing Spider-Man Get rid of Tobey?

Should they recast Peter for Spider-Man 4?

  • Yes. He is too old, too fat, and he can't throw a wise crack to save his life.

  • No. Tobey is perfect as Peter.

Has anyone seen the clips of "Brothers," Tobey's new movie? He is the anti-Spidey in that movie. He plays one angry, scary guy. He is a hell of an actor when given a good script. I think we forget that after the mediocre showing on SM3.
I honestly think he did great in the third movie. We can see his evolution as an actor through 1 to 3.

YOu do relaize that peopel get double chins when they do that, right? Seriously, just because you havea SLIGHT double chin, doesn't mean you're fat. Hell, Have you seen TObey lately? He looks great!

isn't that in the middle of an action scene? a split seconnd too.

and like what Spidermanhero said, everyone on the planet earth gets a double chin when they tuck their head back like that.

The usual complaint about Tobey is that "He's not a cocky Spider-man!" If anyone has any shred of sense they would know that it's not his fault, it's the writer's. If they've played the games based off the movies you'll see that he can be a cocky Spider-man.

amen

I really like the part after Harry's "so good" line where he's just sitting in his apartment staring at the wall looking pissed with that piano music.
Yes, he did have a bit of a double chinny chin chin, but oh well. He was badass and creepy in that scene. :up:

Tobey is a good actor, people do not realize that Spider-Man movies would not be half as successful without him. He should continue.

to me toby is peter parker, he stays, replace dunst, she looks too old and has no spunk like mj should have.

some people are so blinded by their silliness, that they don't notice it.

I don't mind Tobey, but no. That's not true at all.

Honestly, in my eyes Tobey IS Peter Parker. So I want to keep him for as long as possible.

Yeah, that is probably the most Spidey-ish quip in the series. The 'did your husband make that for you' line is a good one for goading the wrestler but as someone said the other day, a gay gag is not the kind of gag Spidey would make.

I thought the wrestler joke was the only time he felt like Spidey through out all three films. The sheriff line was cheesy as heck.

I thought it was one of the few actual 'Spidey' moments in the film. Much of the rest just felt like Tobey and Kirsten were the characters rather than Peter and MJ. Very weird for me. It could be all the star buzz that had been focused on them at the time I guess.

That's very true. Makes me think how many people really cloud their minds thinking Tobey has nothing to do with why these movies are so popular. In many people's minds (including mine), he is Spider-Man. Also, for anybody who hates Tobey, please don't go on and say that just because we like Tobey as Spidey, we haven't read the comics. When it comes to me, That's not true at all. Just ask some of my friends on here, they can tell you I've read the comics.

I think the rub against Tobey is he's a lil to introspective. He was Spiderman in action alone, he's a real downer of a Parker. Peter always found solace in being superpowered, even when things went bad, which was a lot.

We didn't get the fun webslinger, which might work for the first movie, but IMO needed to be more exuberant, and not trying to win an Oscar.

Franco played big and cartoonyish in part 2, McGuire dont

I didn't see Franco as cartoony in SM2 .

If anything it was 3 he was most cartoonish in.

I'm not really sure. On the one hand, after a trilogy of movies with Toby, Kirsten, and Saimi, I feel like it's probably time for a new direction for the franchise with a new cast. Not in a way that's as radical as a reboot, but some new faces attached to the characters would definitely freshen things up. On the other hand, I like the cast of Saimi's trilogy (well, except that Dunst isn't hot enough to be MJ), and even though I liked Spider-Man 3 I'm a bit hesitant to call it a good bookend for the Saimi / Toby Spider-Man legacy.

I'm not going to say he has nothing to do with why these movies are so popular. But I will say it is very little. If he were the reason these movies are so poular his other movies wouldn't be such big bombs. People would be all "Oh! The new Tobey movie is coming out! We should go see that!" Instead it's more like "Oh look. The guy who plays Spider-Man is in that movie." And then the movie flops.

Pleasantville=flop

The Good German=flop

The Ice Store=flop

S.F.W.=flop

This Boy's Life=flop

Ride with the Devil=flop

Wonder Boys=flop

Brothers=poor opening/possible flop/too soon to tell

My point is Maguire didn't save those movies. He was in it and they did terrible. Because people don't go to see the Spider-Man movies to see him. They go because Spider-Man is the most popular superhero in the world right now.

And if you think I'm crazy, people actually have web sites dedicated to the fact they found Tobey's double chin distracting.

No. Maguire should be Spider-Man as long as Raimi is directing. When the time comes for a new director, then recast.

I get it when people say Wesley Snipes IS Blade, Hugh Jackman IS Wolverine (at least the first 2 movies), Patrick Stewart IS Charles Xavier, Robert Downey Junior IS Tony Stark, Edward Norton IS Bruce Banner, but I don't get why so many think Tobey Mcguire is great as Peter Parker. I really don't.

Yeah, really.

How does Tobey Maguire resemble Peter Parker?

All you have to do is have brown hair and be a dweeb to be considered the perfect Peter Parker?
