Ok guys this thread is not here to ***** and moan about the first film so let's get that out of the way. Sony has the rights and Cage is probably coming back so let's make that assumption.

With those pieces in place...if you could get a message across to the production...what are the things most important to you that they implement to make the best Ghost Rider film w/Cage?

Cage talked about it being darker, possibly R rated, and being filmed in Europe. I think the F/X are fine in the first one but to me the Villains were just window dressing and never really threatened GR. They were almost as bad as Elektra. Real cool to look at but nothing more. Peter Fonda was fine though.

If I remember correctly it was a lower budgeted film they added a lot of money too after to redo the f/x. Now that the F/X are at a good starting point we won't have that issue again.

People from the production (should it get into gear) will surely see this. ;)

Note: Could someone fix the title to "YOUR"

I'm sure Cage would want that, but the power of the dollar and the studio decision would never let it come to pass.

Hell, we just saw a PG-13 Terminator film, which still has me shaking my head.

Not that the rating will make or break a Ghost Rider story. I think the main problem that needs to be corrected for the sequel is, as you mentioned, bring a real villain on board. The villains in the first film were laughable shooting gallery fodder at best.

I think what Cage said would be the way to go minus the Europe part. He had also mentioned that Blaze will have started drinking, which is also good. It should definately be GR2 not a reboot. We already have a comic faithful origin in place, they shouldn't go back and reboot when at this point we have origin out of the way and should be able to concentrate on straight action and new story. It obviously is arguable about the execution of the aforementioned comic faithful origin, but it is done and wasting time to redo it would be just that....a waste. The heavy footwork on the fx is also out of the way so budget can go more into action and villians than before, assuming budget is similar. If they cut budget in half or something than we've gained nothing and they shouldn't even bother making it in that case.

1) No f***ing one-liners from GR.
2) A villain that's a genuine threat to everyone. I never felt that the Hidden/Blackheart in the first one were a threat to GR or the world at large.
3) More Fonda!
4) A better screenplay. Give Blaze more texture so that Cage doesn't have to "quirkify" him w/ jellybeans/Carpenters/whatever.
5) Give the direction some subtlety. You can do plenty of R-rated stuff without it being an R-rated movie. Use what the audience DOESN'T see to your advantage.

I asked Knowles the question on his Facebook page and his answer was simple.

"Use Goyer's script."

I've heard great things about it but haven't read it.

Yes I have to agree. Goyer is horrible at directing or whatever he did with Blade 3, but dude can write a script. I say use his script and run with it.

I have chunks of the script and what I read, the action and violence, and the 'curse' aspect of the character were really good. When reading it, you really felt that the power was a curse and that what was bonded to JB was truly a monster. Other than that, the story itself was very far off from the comics.

My suggestions would be to keep Cage far away from the movie, he is way too old to being playing a Johnny or Dan.

Have Robert Rodriguez or Guillermo del Toro, or Sam Raimi to direct it. Have Jason Aaron, J.M. DeMatteis, and Howard Mackie be consultants, and make it a hard R movie.

Guillermo del Toro would be a good choice since his work on Hellboy has proven that He can handle demons really well.

make it a hard R movie.

What exact R rated content did the comics have that was removed from the 2007 Ghost Rider movie in order to get the PG-13 rating??? I basically just want to how the R rated might make the movie better.

I don't think GR would have to be R.

But make it more mature and grown up. We are dealing with demons here, it shouldn't be cheesy AT ALL.

The best scene in the first movie for me was when Blaze first becomes the Rider. Where his skin starts burning and his is at first screaming with pain, then it descends into this maniacal laughter. That was really visceral and quite disturbing. There needs to be more of that sorta stuff in the sequel.

Exactly, it should have a darker tone that's aimed more at grown ups, all that can be done in the PG-13 rating. Besides that scene where his skin burned during the transformation, I also think the prison break and Penance Stare scenes were good as well.

Oh yea they were good. I still think the part where he rides off the building, chain whips back onto it and rides down it, slamming into the ground is stunning. THAT is Ghost Rider.

I think the sequel should explore Johnny Blaze being able to transform into Ghost Rider when He needs to since early in the comics, He could only transform at night then later He finally was able to by his own will.

Well for a start, make it darker, secondly, get Jason Aaron to have a look at the script. I have just finished Hell Bent & Heaven Bound TPB and its one of the best GR books out there. It was better than the whole Way run, and just proper GR.

Also, have the Ghost Rider start to exert more control over Blaze and make him more of a character this time, seperate from Blaze. That is were the conflict can come from.
