Ghost Rider: The Game(s)

I'm sure you've read MSJ' update in this thread; http://www.superherohype.com/forums/showthread.php?t=188064

Some info on the game...

-- Have you had any input on the upcoming video game and how closely will the game tie-in to the movie? I can only imagine playing the Ghost Rider shooting fire from his hands and fry a baddie to crsip.

The Ghost Rider game is being developed right now. I met with the team in Australia when they came to visit the set. That game is going to rule! It's a motorcycle jumping game, a quest game, a fighting game, etc. If I remember right, Mephisto captures Roxanne and Johnny/Ghost Rider has to fight through all of his demons and classic villains to get to her.

Agreed. Some of the best games come out at the end of a console's life, when developers seem to be squeezing every ounce of power they can out of it. Have you played God of War? Wow!! I didn't even think that was possible on the PS2.:)

God of War is awesome...incredibly violent and gory. first time i played a game where you can get energy by having sex w/ prostitutes! i couldnt believe that part

love how MSJ said the GR game is gonna be a combo of many different styles. something to satisfy everyone...nice

Yeah, and the premise of Mephisto capturing Roxanne is a very good one to build a game around.

Actually the refuelling energy sex idea i think is stolen from an old rather famous fantasy comic book of Frazetta or Bisley or one of thoose artists, with a barbarian as protagonist.

im not suprised about that...i know of another recent game that had ability.
rather this is the 1st game that i ever played that had that "feature"...heh.
months ago i heard a rumor that GOW would have that...didnt believe it until i got to the scene after killing the hydra. thought it was rather funny when you didnt quite make it through the button sequence.... :D

I agree. There's no better fuel to feed a fire than the kidnapping of one's love... and we want Blaze and Ghost Rider all fueled up in this one.

I'm really intrigued to see how they're going to mix this adventure/fighting/ motorcycle jumping game into one kick ass ride. It should be realy interesting.

Don't think this has been posted before. It's just some info on the old GR game that was being developed a while ago...

Ghost Rider
Platform: PlayStation
Publisher: Crystal Dynamics
Developer: Crystal Dynamics

The Basics

Ghost Rider was to be an action game with good-looking 3D rendered graphics and an excellent use of camera tracking. The 32-bit platform was a great place to preview a character of this nature, with intense burning effects and creepy voice-overs. Ghost Rider was one game that stayed true to the nature of the comic it was based on, as Ghost Rider the game character protected the innocent and tormented the bad guys. Amidst the detailed graphics and seemingly great audio, there were several cameo appearances by other Marvel superheroes on the drawing board.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Ghost Rider fell through the cracks when Crystal Dynamics reorganized into a developer from a publisher/developer.

And a pic from the game. One I haven't seen before...

That sounds like it would have been an awesome game for the playstation. The only thing I'm worried about with the new GR game is the fact that I havent seen it listed under the new systems yet, only ps2 and xbox.

Why have they not included ghost rider in a fighting game yet, unless he was in marvel vs capcom?? He seems like he would be awesome to fight with.

But how would a normal criminal hurt you ?

Guns and conventional weapons do nothing to him in demon form.

very cool find FH!
that pic is mighty "trippy" though....like Ghostie took some bad acid...heh

anyone played ' Soul Reaver '? that game had alot of detail, was free-roaming and you got to upgrade your main weapon as well as use weapons in the environment to fight and solve puzzles......if this game could follow that style then i think it will be a kick ass game....can u just imagine being able to be able to return to human form and have your hell powers regenerate? oh, the possiblities.....

Yep, Soul Reaver was outstanding.

On a different note, I just got Resident Evil 4 (awesome) and the fire effects in it are unbelievably realistic. It bodes well for what they could do with Ghost Rider.

Majesco Sells The Darkness, Ghost Rider To New Publisher
majesco.jpg
Troubled game publisher Majesco has announced that it has sold all of its rights and obligations related to the game titles The Darkness and GhostRider to a currently unnamed video game publisher. According to an official statement from Majesco, this sales included all of Majesco's agreements with the licensors and developers for these titles, and Majesco received proceeds of $8.0 million as a result of the transaction.

Specifically, The Darkness has been in development for next-gen consoles at Swedish Chronicles Of Riddick developer Starbreeze, and is licensed from the Top Cow comic of the same name. According to reports from earlier this year, development studio Climax (Sudeki) is working on Ghost Rider, licensed from Marvel, for a summer 2006 release to coincide with the release of a movie version starring Nicholas Cage.

Majesco has recently come under increasing pressure as a result of a largely failed attempt to transition from value publisher to a major console publishing force - at lass update, the company anticipates net revenues of just $60 - $65 million for the year, and losses of a gigantic $40 - $45 million, following disappointing sales for major products such as Advent Rising and Psychonauts, and this is likely the reason for such a drastic move.

The company also commented that this sale "...affords the Company added flexibility with which to pursue additional opportunities and execute initiatives related to its core business", but it also removes two of the most notable products from the company's future release schedule. However, Majesco still has current or forthcoming games on its roster including Jaws Unleashed, Aeon Flux and Teen Titans, and has promised to update further on its financial situation in a January 2006 conference call on its latest fiscal results.

cool find....
i remember hearing about Majesco's probs some time ago...good to hear they have turned the project to someone else. just hope this means there wont be a drop in quality if they try and rush it to make a Summer 06 release date.

Too bad it's not the people behind Riddick. Man that was an awesome game. Still Climax will do a good job.

The release date of the game may even be pushed to later in the year now that the movie is moved. Hmmm.....

This doen't have anything to do with the new game, but if anyone's interested, Ghost Rider was in Spider-Man & Venom: Separation Anxiety. He wasn't a playable character though. You could collect superhero tokens to summon them to fight beside you if things got too hairy. The only two I remeber are Cloak and Dager, and of course Ghost Rider.

I think Daredevil and Cap. America were the others in Separation Anxiety. But, yeah, I think that's the only game GR has been in.

Has anyone played anything made by Climax? I was actually kind of glad when I heard Majesco was no longer working on the game. I work at a game store so I play a lot of games, and Majesco makes crap. Most movie tie-in games are crap anyway, but Ghost Rider needs to be sweet. Not just some three hour long borefest where you stumble through an abridged version of the flick. I really hope it's open ended like Hulk or Spiderman. The GTA style of walking/driving would be awesome for GR.

Thanks for sharin' that. I didn't know about this. Though he's not playable, it's cool that he's in there.

Something just occurred to me. Since the movie's now been put back to Feb 2007, the Playstation 3 will be out. Now, I don't recall the game being confirmed for that platform, but surely they'll have the time to do it now. Plus, Sony have put a lot behind this movie and if it lives up to their expectations, a game tie-in would sell a lot of machines for them.

Can you imagine how cool Ghost Rider would look on PS3?

I would love to see a Ghost Rider game for the PS3 but if it's a first person shooter then it's going to suck big time. 3rd is where it's at now!

i wouldnt be worried about it...im sure alot of games currently being made for the PS2 are also being made for the PS3...shouldnt be that difficult. just add a few more "bells and whistles".
should be the same game but possibly w/ slightly better graphics or loading time.
wouldnt make much sense to make it just for the PS2 since most of the attention will be on PS3 games in late 06 early 07....that is IF the PS3 is out by then :D
