Ghost Rider - The NEW Ongoing, Vol 3 (Possible Spoilers)

I did see the sample page and it looks like they are trying to branch out the Spirits of Vengeance into whole new territories. Some of them I can recall.

The one in the center is Noble Kale as Ruler of Hell. The one to his left is a guy with a Pilots helmet on..they showed him in Trail of Tears that Garth Ennis wrote and it was hinted that Marvel would like to do a WWII inspired Ghost Rider...not sure how he fits in that picture though. OK, for the others...The one to Ruler of Hell GR's right is a nun-chuk wielding Ghost Rider that is new. The three directly below appear to be Danny Ketch transforming to Ghost Rider for the 1st time (I remember that panel from #1 of the 90s run). The other character is clearly Vengeance and the one below...looks like an old school Pontiac Firebird Hellfired up.

OK now to get to the top portion. The two that are easy to identify is Johnny Blaze/Zarathos and Daimon Hellstrom. The other 2..I can't really identify. Not sure about the mustached fellow who is laughing hysterically. The guy on the upper left panel is somebody new for sure. At first the portion above his eyes reminded me of Centurious in the 90s run...but i can tell now that it runs all the way across the side of his head (like Magneto or Onslaught). His helmet is a little goofy looking with the chin strap...also note the upper right hand corner of that sample page...I can't tell what that blue streak is..but might be a wing...my guess is a new Ghost rider foe. I don't think Zadkiel wears a helmet..for someone as powerful as he is, he wouldn't need one.

Yeah, good analysis. Now that I look at it closely the middle GR does seem to be wearing the same crown & scepter Kale used during his brief tenure as Hell Ruler. Also getting interested on the nunchuk-wielding GR, and the fact that Sister Sara - the new Caretaker - is also hinted to be adept with that particular weapon. Hmmmm......

However, I've still got a strong feeling that the big fellow on the upper left IS the shrouded figure of Zadkiel, himself! Especially now that you've pointed out those "wings". He's got that huge, menacing figure that reminds me somewhat of Apocalypse. And as for the helmet, well it could simply be meant for "aesthetic" purposes to symbolize his "warrior-angel" like nature. There are, after all, notable super-powered beings in MU who're depicted as wearing some kind of helms......like Thor and Galactus.

Doghead and Death Ninja just seems so out of left field for issue 26.

I can understand Blackout and the Orb, but Doghead and Death Ninja... it just bothers me. Just seems like a pointless way to appease the fans of the 90s series for an issue and to get rid of them from any future issues at the same time. I would have just prefered to have never seen them again.

What next, Meatmarket? Suicide? Hag and Troll? Deathwatch is still kicking last I read, might as well throw them in as well and have a nice reunion.

I think it was just for a taste of things to come. The fact that Blackout alone was in the series was enough for me. Having Doghead bite it was satisfying, I never liked him to begin with. Death Ninja I thought was interesting and he wanted to die and it was nice to wrap up this character once and for all.

I'm not sure how Estrell feels about the Orb, apparently he bit the dust according to Blackout, but I'm sure he'll pop up again somewhere down the line.

I believe Corpulent's gripe about Danny Ketch becoming a cookie-cutter villain was probably the biggest dissapointment, lets hope Aaron doens't kill off the character.

Thats true. I'd like to see how Zadkiel l stands up to the likes of a Thor, or another celestial being. I'm not sure about the helmet...I mean if your fighting the likes of the THE Marvel Supreme God of Man, I just dont think a helmet would make that much of a difference..you know? Remember those giant knives that the Deacon wielded? :woot:

Also what do you feel about Orb's inglorious return? Who do you think that guy is who is laughing hysterically in that preview panel? Also, do you still believe the "Friend" character is Jesus...or Zadkiel?

BTW, if you haven't had a chance to read it, the Annual #2 has a reprint of an old Ghost Rider comic "Death Race" when the Ghost Rider has to race Death himself in the flesh (or bones) for his own soul.

Alright guys now its time to make some predictions about Danny boy.

Why is he working for Zadkiel? Did he commit suicide and was forced to join his ranks? Is he trying to save a loved one who may have committed suicide? I wonder what happenned to his depressed and alcoholic mother?

Also if DK is back..and I'm sure all of you have seen his Rider...who is he bonded with? Zarathos? Something else entirely?

Lets hear some discussion!

I will admit, Blackout was handled properly in the issue. He came off like the Blackout Mackie created oh so many years ago.

I wouldn't be surprised to see that Ketch sold his soul in some fashion to be the Ghost Rider again once he realized he needed more than he wanted to be rid of it, and Zadkiel used this as a way to get another minion.

Hey, if it works to bulk his intimidation rate up (to the readers that is), why not? ;)

But seriously, this is Zadkiel we’re talking about – the one individual possibly responsible for most of (if not all) the tragedies in Ghost Rider’s life. I understand Aaron enjoys putting a lot of over the top "B-movie madness" into his stories (e.g. cycle nurses, mammoths w tuning forks, & now nunchuck nuns) but I’m sure even he knows a character like Zadkiel deserves something much more.....“grand”, I should say. Remember those angels from RTD? I could swear they were designed wearing ancient, Roman-ish armors. So I wouldn’t be surprised one bit if a head-honcho like Zadkiel turns out to be one giant brute decked out in full “God of War” style gear.

As for the Orb, I’ll admit the presence of an old fave did make me feel all-giddy w nostalgia again, only to turn sour after learning he was only there for red shirt’s sake. It quite irked me that there wasn’t even the slightest bit of info regarding Drake’s (if that was even him!) head turning into the “real deal” - meaning REAL eyeball, as opposed to helm. Story for another day, I suppose…

Not really sure about that crazy-looking dude with the hysterical laugh, but his wild hair does kinda remind me of Nightmare from the 70’s. Maybe even Mr. Eleven, but really I’d rather wish we NEVER see that guy again!

The “Friend”? I don’t know… My beliefs (and indeed my memories of the character) are still making me hope that he truly WAS the real deal and is bound to help JB again sometime in the future. But on a writer’s perspective, I have to admit making a “Zadkiel story” out of it might work to further promote the character as an omnipotent villain of great cunning & manipulation - securing him a spot among the likes of, say, Mephisto. We’ll see.

Annual #2’s currently off my shop lists at the moment, but I’ll be sure to read it once I’ve got everything else settled (Jim Starlin’s “Death Race” was, and still is, one of Johnny Blaze’s greatest moments EVER! :woot:). Not digging the artwork though; smells like “Pop Mhan” more than anything else for me.

I’ll just go with NDX’s guess about Ketch’s fall from grace. Blue flames in fiction are often used as the embodiment of “Holy Flame”. So I’m betting Ketch’s powers are now coming directly from a Heavenly source; from Zadkiel, no less.

I don't much like Silvestri's art, but that dual cover for 28 does look great. Issue 29' cover looks better, though.

Something tells me GR doesnt need help in that at all. :woot:

Well Ghost Rider has torn through Angels before, I cant wait until Aaron gives Ghost Rider an enemy thats truly worth his time. I'm not sure about you but Daniel Way's craptastic GR vs Lucifer Finale made me want to rip my comic to pieces. :cmad:

At least he had the balls to put him back in the comic. I still think your ideas infused into this comic would bring good life back into the Orb.

Yeah he was a totally pointless character. Where exactly did he fall into the scheme of things and will we even care to know?

Well he seems to be above Mephisto himself b/c he's got the audacity to attack the Big Marvel G. One can only imagine what he's capable of.

The artwork did leave much to be desired, but it was colored very well and the story in this Annual was actually valid, I kid you not..

Jarv (Javiar Saltaires) said his idea for the blue flames was to give the impression of extremely hot and fast, like a oxyacetylene torch. The blue flames remind me of Zarathos.

Dan Ketch becoming this druggie is a strange twist, but in an extremely strange 'out-there' comic like Ghost Rider, we shouldn't expect anything less.

Agreed. Although my gripes are more with the coloring than the actual artwork itself. It looks like it came straight out of a 90s comic.

Actually, that's what really sells me on the drawing.

SUN! :woot: Damn, I missed u man! Haven't been able to contact u guys since the GR boards got nuked.

So, did you see that cool sample page yet? The one showing what appears to be a small gathering of Ghost Riders, including Vengeance (plus Daimon Hellstrom???).

What's your take on the mysterious, big dude on the upper left-most corner (near Hellstrom)? Most of his features are overshadowed, but I can see he's wearing some kind of helmet & has blue skin (although this may just be due to the pic's "lightening"); doesn't look familiar to me.

Do you suppose it might be......Zadkiel?

I...don't...believe it. WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN??!!

I have to say, I enjoyed the story Mercy in the second annual, but the art didn't really help the ending. I thought it could have used one more page the help illustrate that final scene between the angel and Blaze.

And now I think I have my 3rd reprint of Death Race.

The story was good but the reprint was a b.s.
could have been space for a dan ketch story.

I agree with bubonic about the reprint. The first 2 ghost rider annuals were several stories revolving around 1 plot which made the ghost rider annuals so cool. It seems that they haven’t been putting much effort into these 2 new annuals, like there wasn’t enough material for a 1 shot so they decided annual was the way to go.

It seems a handfull of Marvel Annuals do that, making them pretty much a waste of money.

The description is intriguing. Still don't like the art.

Marvel.com has it set at $2.99.
