Ghostbusters II Appreciation

i would love a decent special edition with commentary, deleted scenes making of the whole works

I hated GB2 so much I have not seen it since it came out, but I recall it as just being a sloppy rehash of the first one. Even characters who don't belong in it - like Sigourney Weaver & Rick Moranis - are forced back into the movie at the detriment of the story, just because they were in the first one. Bad.

No offense but I don't see the point of posting in a thread about a film you dislike when the thread is clearly for fans of it...

I think people give the movie flack because it came out around the time RGB was still popular and they think that was why the sequel was made, personally I like it.

Although, I've always wondered if there were deleted scenes explaining 1) where did Winston go during the court scene and 2) what happened to Janine's crush on Egon.

It seems there's quite a bit of deleted material from the movie, maybe even another for an alternate cut? I know there was a whole subplot with Ray being possessed.

I love GBII, I like it nearly as much as the first, and the video game makes it a near perfect trilogy.
I love the soundtrack for the second film. The first has a classic and memorable score, but the hip hop soundtrack of the second is a lot of fun to listen to.

The video game was awesome and it really is basically GB3 in game form. I enjoyed finding out about the mood slime's origin in it, too.

For a moment I thought you were talking about the GBII NES game.

I still have that game and still have been unable to beat it all these years later. So punishingly tough.

Does anyone remember what a sexpot Janine became in the second movie, compared to the first one?

I enjoy Ghostbusters II but have you noticed that Bill Murray pretty much doesn't do a damn thing. He shows up every once awhile, usually in a suit, says a line and leaves. Its kind of disheartening.

He alledgedly didn't want to do the film to begin with, but he seemed like he enjoyed himself and gave it his best regardless. Seems like when the reception became lukewarm compared to the first is when he started disliking it.

Yeah, Bill Murray did seem like he wanted to be somewhere else the whole time. In a strange way, it works because it's then reflected in his character Peter, who's more interested in having a normal life than being a Ghostbuster at this point. I love the scene when the slimed 'Busters barge in on his date at the restaurant.

Maybe that was how Murray approached the role when he did the sequel? Kind of a smart way to go about it.

I know there was a whole subplot with Ray being possessed.

yup part of that shot of him in possessed mode was in the film it was part of the montage that was playing over the Run DMC version of the theme when Peter is in the back of Ecto 1A while Ray is driving. in the novel version of the movie when it came out he was talking like a mad man and Winston punched him out after they hit a tree (I think). Peter says "keep an eye on him, don't even let him shave".

I'd be very interested to see the very first cut of the movie that has the Ray possession subplot as well as Louis trying to catch Slimer in the firehouse. I guess these scenes got cut for pacing/timing issues.

I wonder how much of the cut scenes are still out there. I'm surprised, all of the orginal's deleted material has pretty much shown up, but nothing for GBII.

Yeah, I really hope they're included on the Blu-ray. Maybe they could even have them reinserted in an alternate cut of the film.

I'm down for an alternate cut of the film, see what it was originally like before being trimmed down.
