If you missed Haywire, you missed the big-screen debut of Gina Carano, one of the best female action stars in years. A skilled MMA fighter, Carano delivered physical beat-downs in a convincing way and you felt every single punch. Now, THR is reporting that Carano has grabbed another action flick and will star in John Stockwell‘s In the Blood. In the film, which is being described in the vein of Taken, Carano will play a wife who hunts down the men who kidnapped and killed her husband. I can get on board with this premise even though it’s the same set-up as plenty of other action movies: Do not piss off this person or they will remove your life.

As a bonus for Haywire fans, that film’s stunt team, 8711, is in talks to re-team with Carano for In the Blood. Shooting is set in late spring or early summer in Puerto Rico.

It's cool that there is actually a female action star...

A female action star who can likely beat up Matt Damon, Tom Cruise and Jeremy Renner in real life.

And yes, I mean simultaneously.

good for her. now its time for her to learn how to act. she is not from Austria so talking english should not be a problem.

I think this will flop again. These kind of movies don't do well and a female star will not help this.

I SEE SPIDEY, the problem with your statement is that Carano is not a star. Her first movie flopped.

I hope this is just another series of her beating up famous male stars.

I think all she needs is a badass supporting role to bring her into focus as a true action star. Like Jet Li in Lethal Weapon 4.

It's cool they're making an action film with a female lead. Whether you'd call her a star yet is open for debate.

She needs to actually be in a popular main stream action movie in order to be considered a star I would think. As of now she is just the female Jason Statham

mroe action movies with female leads the more happy i am .

I hope Gina is successful simply because we need more BELIEVABLE female action stars. Every time I watch Angelina Jolie kick someone, I think she's going to break her hip.

Carano I hope she does have a good career because it would be a shame if she ended up a straight to dvd type.
I think if her career is going to work she should be a co star in some action movies and just straight steal the scene from her male leads.

Gina would be better served as a supporting player in an ensemble cast, like a lower-end version of The Expendables or Ocean's 11. It's too much to expect her to sell a film all by herself.

Stallone should direct Gina in an all-female spin-off of that series called The Expendababes. :D

Somebody in the Rule 63 thread beat you to it. :woot: They have a better title too: The Expendabelles.

Carano is really just a couple steps away from doing softcore DTV movies and posing for Playboy. In fact she's just about there right now.

John Stockwell's last couple movies were TURISTAS and DARK TIDE. Dark Tide stars Halle Berry of all people and Olivier Martinez and it's not even getting a legitimate theatrical release from my understanding.

If this movie is even released in theatres I will be surprised.

Now just to be clear. I do like Gina. I respect her as a martial artist and the boundaries she was able to break. However at the same time, I don't think she's a very good actress. In fact it seems whenever she does an unscripted interview in front of the camera she is scared to death and has no idea what to say or what she's talking about. She just lacks that it factor and charisma.

i noticed this when i watched her Conan interview.

Yeah she's clearly camera shy and hates being in front of it . . . unlike Chael Sonnen.

I find her shyness odd to be honest she is a women who would go into a cage and fight another women in front of some big crowds.

Well some guys are like that. Nick Diaz is an absolute beast in the cage, but put a microphone or camera in front of him and he starts getting really anxious and uncomfortable as well as stupid and paranoid.

I mean I like Carano's physique and all and she's probably a chick that yeah could more convincingly beat guys up on screen. But she doesn't seem to have the knack for acting and expressing herself.

I think it is too bad, since she definitely has the physique as well as attractiveness to be a major movie star, if she can act. There's a real void on the screen for female action stars, and even Angelina's recent action flicks didn't do that well. Carano has a chance to fill that void but without acting skills, I think her movies will become direct-to-DVD ports like other C-list actors do.

I was just using the word "star" fellas. I know that she doesn't open films and I know what the movie did at the box office. Good reviews do count for something though.

I loved "haywire"...so SIGN ME UP FOR THIS ONE
