No, it isn't a joke. Arcee is in the film as she was in the toons. There were a few female Autobots in the second season of Transformers (Elita One being one of them, I forget the other two names (Moonshine?)) although they were only on Cybertron. Arcee I believe was the first female Autobot on Earth.

Technically we refer to him as being a "he" but "he" is more or less a just a "thing" that decided to take on a male voice & personality.

Eh, good enough for me. I'm not very familiar with the vehicle Transformers, I'm a Beast Wars kid, and I remember there being genders there.

Sure if there is a Transformer that has a good reason to take on a female voice & personality then that is its choice but purposely making one a female is a different story.

Like Optimus Prime said in the first movie "We Are Who We Choose To Be" but he was talking more about them becoming good & or evil or was he.

If they gave it perky spots in place of where a woman's breasts should be it would be stupid. What are they going to do develope sexual tension between the other Transformers for the sake of comedy just because now one is a girl, or have them go out on dates? LOL!

What do you call a female Transformer? A Drag Queen. It is afterall a vehicle that loves to race.

What do you call a Transformer in Drag? A Transformed Sexual.

The way I see it is, it's their spark, or soul, that determines the feminine or masculine personality. They don't have mammalian, reptilian, or insect sexual organs, so they don't truly have a gender. But there's no reason why they can't project those personalities. We generally accept that a human male who copulates with another human male is not performing a function that is congruent to reproduction, but it does occur even if our biology does not allow for the action to go any further than that. So I don't think it's that far-fetched that they might have a gender. They have body types and they're not unicellular organisms, who have no mind to determine a preference. That's as much validation as I need.

i think when humans will look at arcee they will see more women features. or maybe even the voice. but i dont think the robots himself think that they are male and female. they are just robots. one look like a scorpion,the otherone has maybe chicken legs,.....

I dissagree with all of you. IMO a girl transformer couldnt sound any stupider. I couldnt care less if she was in the cartoons, megatron was a gun in the cartoons but was he a gun in the movie? No...
