Well I don't watch SNL much anymore. I saw the season premiere with Amy Pohler and that was incredibly unfunny.
But I DVR'd this and it was surprisingly better. Yeah, all the sketches after Weekend Update sucked, but Lynch was a good host and there were some really good sketches before Weekend Update.
Jane Lynch's opening monologue was hilarious and she can really sing! Who knew, considering how much she is autotuned on Glee? "Mom Filter" on Facebook was hilarious, as was Christine O'Donnell's campaign ad. Mom's Boyfriend Talk Show and the Denzel Washington kits were okay! Two additional skits that don't straight up suck is a win for SNL!
As for the Glee skit...I liked it. It wasn't hysterically funny, but I would expect as much from SNL. But the impressions were funny, especially Keenan Thompson as Mercedes and Abby Elliot as Rachel (Fred Armisen was a good Artie, but had little to do). However, the part that was actually really funny was Bobby Moniyhan(sp?) as Kurt's dad defending his "GAY SON!"
The skit was primarily a vehicle for Gilly. And I personally hate Gilly. Like "Target Lady" and every other recurring Kristen Wig character, she is not funny.
I freaking hate Gilly. It is a showcase of why SNL goes downhill when this is their idea of a funny recurring character.
So the fact that her crap was kept to a minimum of one "Sorry,"
this was the best Gilly skit ever, because Gilly was barely in it.
With that said it would have been funnier without her. Still, not terrible and the rest of Jane Lynch's skits before Bruno Mars was pretty good. Yeah, after Weekend Update it sucked, but what did you expect? It is SNL, so there it is.
