Glee

Brit and Santana have an unspoken thing going on. Britt and Artie started out of Britt trying to make Santana jealous and Santana totally got jealous. They are totally in lesbians with one another.

And oh look....Joanne and Maureen is a lesbian relationship. It's a song about two powerful voiced lesbians singing about women (Yes, I'm aware that Santana has a more powerful voice than Brit.) Rachel and Mercedes are two straight women with belty voices. Something just seems off and weird about them singing it.

I suppose you could have Rachel and Mercedes sing it to men as a duet, but oh wait...nope. Mercedes is forever alone.

The song, at its surface, is about a lesbian couple getting into a fight. Santana and Brit are not currently a lesbian couple. BUT, if they were, do you really think they'd get into a fight and just break out into "Take Me or Leave Me"? This is GLEE. Characters RARELY bust out into song, and if they do its usually by themselves "in their head" kinda thing. When people sing on Glee is always "HEY GUYS I WANT TO SING THIS SONG FOR YOU TODAY".

Now, in the case of Mercedes and Rachel, Rachel is finally getting over Finn, and Mercedes is telling her "Being single is great because you can work on yourself". And in that context the song works perfectly for the two to sing.

I just think people need to use their imaginations a bit. I often find suggestions of songs from musicals, and the persons idea for the song is exactly like it appears in said musical! If its already been done, why do it again?

It's kind of like the people who think that Carl should sing Dentist! from Little Shop because... he IS a Dentist!

But to be honest there are certain songs that just don't work outside of their original ideas. Dentist, for me at least, is definitely one of those.

And I would say that "I've Dreamed a Dream", "And I'm Telling You", "Rose's Turn", and "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" are some of those certain songs... yet they were performed on Glee out of their original contexts and worked just fine.

You can find a way to make them work, introduce an Argentinian exchange student for Evita songs, have a character called Heathcliff for Wuthering heights.

Just watched the first ep of the second season. Very good, odd to see Quinn non-pregnant. You really feel for Artie getting dumped, Tina's 'like his abs' line really sticking the knife in. Don't like Sam much (just me or is their a gay subtext between him and Finn? And Puck?) but I hope we see more of Sunny. Empire State of Mind was excellent. Proud of myself to recognise the new coach of Vocal Adrenaline as Liz's boyfriend from 30 Rock. Love The Beast and Rachel and Sue grow ever more nutso and ruthless as time goes on. More hints that Brittany is at very least bi, love her line 'Everyone thinks I went on vacation but I was actually lost in the sewers'. Hope we see more of Santana's boob job (so to speak:woot:) and loved the big catfight between her and Quinn.
One question, where Will's 'girlfriend' the red haired counsellor gone?

Emma pops up in the Britney Spears episode, the second episode of the second season.

Sam DOES have gay subtext. Thanks for noticing and making me, Majik and about 2 others not the only ones in the thread to notice it.

No one ever said Rachel and Mercedes would sing together. They could be singing at different times but the show plays them together (like Defying Gravity).

Heather Morris did a video for "Funny or Die" (also featuring Sofia Vergara) that you can see on the site.

The language might actually get you banned. I saw it earlier and it was the only reason I was iffy about putting it up.

Giving a link to a site that may have provocative language is ban-able now?

Banable now? It's always been banable!

So a link to a news source that may have profanities in the comment section can make it bannable?

Iunno. That's a good question. Ask the mods. I just know video content is taken into consideration if there's even one word in a video that the Hype censors in a post, then it's considered infractable/ban worthy.

Well, most sites block out profanity. The sites that don't, like CBM, aren't allowed to be posted here.

It's always been quite annoying.

I've never noticed that before; huh. I'll edit the post to be safe.

Weird rule.

They must do this song...[YT]2Zail7Gdqro[/YT]
Sue can sing it to the club after she slips LSD into their slushies and hijacks their bus to regionals. :o:up:

Oh man... a whole episode dedicated to Willy Wonka would be awesome. Sue should be Willy Wonka!
