They proved with this episode that they CAN have more than 4 songs and still have a coherent plot/dialog/character moments/multiple storyline.

Also, the fact that they did THIS and did it so much justice earns them so many points.

Best episode of this season thus far, quite easily. Even though there was no Sue (or Puck for that matter), it was just a very wittily written episode where the songs contributed to the show and the characters, while there was a plot that advanced the characters. In fact, it proves you can have a solid story without getting overtly preachy like they did last week.

Highlights of the episode were all the duets (save for the second one sung by Finchel to throw the competition) most particularly "Don't Go Breaking My Heart," "Mountain High," and the one Sam/Quinn sang. Also Quinn and Tina both having semi-plots was nice to see. OOh and Britana was shown very casually without any "big deal" being made. Nicely done.

As for Sam himself. That boy is clearly gay. They are going to use this as their new "baby drama" from last season. It is going to build with Kurt finding out in a few episodes, but he won't come out in fear of losing his popularity. Meanwhile he is going to lead Quinn on. It actually is setting the seeds for a very interesting drama that the show has been missing since the Back 9 (the Jesse, Mamma Minzel stuff didn't cut it). Also, another great scene for Mike O'Malley.

Quality episode all around, very truly.

Also, Artie and Brittany. I may be the only one not on board with that "ship," as it seems to be going around now.

Brittany had a real character with emotion this episode. And Brittany is a favorite because she isn't a deep character. Just a hopelessly moronic blonde cheerleader with a sweet disposition and a master of the killer deadpan art form.

I really hope we don't get episodes of Brittany pining for Artie. And for the record her reputation was well known by everybody in the school. She had even made out with Kurt at one point. Artie couldn't have been going in thinking this was some kind of deep connection.

Oh and I agree with everyone else that it was nice for them to follow up Theatricality with both Burt and Finn talking to Kurt about what he did.

Man, that was a great episode.

How long is Puck gone? Didn't they say that he drove his car into a convenient store and stole the ATM. Is he really going to be back next week and act like nothing happened?

goood episode.

it was idiotic what Artie said to Brittany. but what can you do. the writters need to force some dumd acting from their characters.

it was interesting what they did with Brittany. if they go full force on her character development it can work. but they will lose comedy. if they try to change her and make her go back to being a **** they will fail. lets see if they are able to ''writte''.

I'm not sure about that. He seemed pretty genuine, particularly in his interest in Quinn; if they reveal he's closeted now, he'll look like an ass.

I don't think he'll look like an ass.

Brittany's not a ****, she's a sexual savant. I think to her, having sex with someone is like shaking hands or saying hello, which isn't necessarily a bad attitude to have.

BTW, Sam is not gay, I'd bet my gaydar on that. He's just a really cool straight guy who's into experiencing every facet of life.

If he was a closet case, he wouldn't have been so okay with singing with Kurt, and would react for more violently to Kurt's so-called "predatory" actions. And the way he's playing Quinn, only a straight guy would know how to smoothly execute the old "guitar trick." ;)

Yeah, neither do I. In fact, most closeted gay guys in high school have used a girl to cover their secret, until they were comfortable being who they really are. I did. It just wasn't the hot popular lead cheerleader.

A straight guy does not do this during a gay guy's performance. Just saying.

Ah yes, god bless the socially awkward heavy girls. They were our best friends in high school, our dates to the prom, the first girl we brought home and the first (and sometimes only) females we've known biblically, they are truly the big, oblong building blocks of our culture. :hehe:

Well, according to Santana he has no game. :oldrazz:

He's got more game than every other male on the show, except for Puck, so there! :oldrazz:

Besides, Santana has the sexual politics of Patrick Bateman, so I wouldn't use her as an authority on the subject.

I thought he was gone for more than 1 episode since isnt the actor working on a cd or something?

So two episodes? Couldn't they have picked something less serious?

He had no objection to singing with Kurt, despite being told it would make everyone think he was gay; not really the actions of someone who's in the closet.

Then, when he switches over to Quinn, he immediately goes for the kiss, he does a lot of fairly sincere-looking fumbling to make her laugh, and (quite undefensively) tells her that he isn't gay when she asks, etc. He may yet turn out to be bi, but if he's gay, he's both a terrific actor and an ******* for leading Quinn on after she made clear she's already been burned by recent incidents and asks him if he's gay.

He'll look like a teenager who wants to be popular in his high school and figured dating the head cheerleader after losing the QB position due to injury was the best way. Besides she has had...a past that means not anyone else is really calling (except for the baby daddy now in Juvie' ).

It is going to be another sad story for Quinn, but for some reason that works for the show, IMO. Meanwhile it could make for a real rising drama if Kurt finds out in a few episodes but Sam doesn't want to come out...building to let's say the Fall Finale or a few episodes before? If Ryan Murphy wants Quinn to return to "full on ***** mode," then this could be what sends her over the edge.

As for hints in the episode:

-Sam wants to duet with Kurt.
-Sam asks, accusingly, if Finn has a problem with gay dudes.
-Sam thinks Venus is Mars (Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus)
-Sam's reaction to watching Kurt's solo/duet
-Sam tells Quinn he has a secret. Sure he said it was just dying his hair, but he says Kurt's sixth sense was right and Kurt predicted more than just that.

I am not a "shipper" in terms of Quinn or Kurt. I like both characters. I do think that the "closet story" though offers more tension and drama, so I hope that is where it is going.

what if the writter wrotte this into the character for the twist later on?

I actually think Sam being bisexual is a real possibility. It would open the door for more love triangles and would add more diversity to the Glee club.

-Sam wants to duet with Kurt.
Kurt asked him, and he agreed because he liked Kurt's voice.

Which, again, if he's in the closet, why was he so willing to sing with Kurt despite being told it would make everyone think he was gay?

Given the enormous amount of pre-show hype about how Kurt's boyfriend was going to be named Sam, you can read this as Murphy teasing people with what was his original plan before they gave too much away (indeed, the early discussions of the new season mentioned a bunch of other new characters we didn't end up getting).

As I said, I could see him being bi, but his wooing of Quinn in this episode was way too genuine for me to buy that he has no interest in women. Particularly since this episode really sets him up as an above-board, honourable sort.

Some of you are under the impression that gay guys are not allowed to find women attractive. Not true.
