Gods & Men: The Ancient Myths RPG: Chapter 1 OOC Thread

Anyway, to those of you travelling to Athens; I'm thirsting for some interaction already. Are you guys planning on going to Athens, or someplace outside of Athens?

the good Docktore is already on the way. I'm up for some Viking savage interaction.

Figured I'd try something different with my Cy-Spar post. Started the first bits of dialogue in the Drow language and faded into the common tongue. For the most part, I'll be using English for my posts with him, but I will occasionally toss in some Drow words here and there.

For those interested, here's the link to a kick ass language converter I found. It has a ****load of fantasy languages, from Drow, Elven, Abyssal (Demonic tongue), Orc, and even Thieves' Cant.

Gods & Men: The Ancient Myths RPG: SEASON I

Screen Name: Belvedere

Character you have created (include known alias or nicknames here as well): Jonas Swain

Race/Culture: Irish/Norse (identifies himself as English) Human

Racial Traits: Normal Human

Character Class (Somewhat similar to the classes in the CAH RPG, but with some differences) (Choose One):

Fighter (the quintessential melee masters and weaponed warriors; fighters include soldiers, barbarians, gladiators, martial artists, rangers, and all general warriors)

Patron Deity: None.

Speech Color and/or Font: Georgia Burgundy

Character Alignment: Neutral

Character Personality: The most obvious of Jonas' traits is his unshakeable loyalty to King Arthur, Arthur did his best to keep Jonas at an arm's length if and when possible due to his dangerous nature; but his loyalty to his King resulted in him being a very useful tool, anything Arthur would and did ask of him he would do without question or grumble. Before Arthur's death Jonas had been known as somewhat hotheaded and a liability, since his death this has increased tenfold. His beserker rages blind him to all logic and reason, no amount of injury nor pain will stop him and this has made him an extremely dangerous foe. One side effect of his surviving Modred's siege on Camelot is he feels an unwarranted amount of survivor's guilt, part of him wishes he had died alongside his King and the Knight's of the Round Table.

Origin Info/Details: Jonas was born into violence. His mother, an Irish prostitute, was brutally raped by Norse Warriors. This has lead Jonas to an intense dislike of any and all Scandanavians, regardless of their moral standing or personalities. From an early age Jonas learned quickly that the world was not a kind place for the bastard son of a prostitute, he was but a meek and sickly child and looked a soft target for the stronger and rougher children; but they, and Jonas himself, did not know the rage that laid within him. His blood was quick to boil and he would use every and any means necessary to down his foes: eye gouging, spitting, biting. You name it, he did it.

The young Jonas often travelled into Camelot in the hopes of catching a glimpse of the city's fabled king, to his good fortune he managed to stand in the crowd and watch whilst the legendary king adressed the people of Camelot. He was entranced with the man's presence, the respectful yet commanding voice that the man used, he exhibited so much power and yet so much humility. Whilst watching him Jonas realised that for the first time in his young life he felt intimidated. From the crowd an assassin appeared and attempted to strike Arthur down, Jonas leapt to the King's defense and whilst crazed gouged the eyes of the assassin, killing him front of the crowd. Arthur realised that whilst he was indebted to the young man, Jonas was clearly slightly crazy; whenever something unknightly was called upon, that someone was an ounce of chivalry would refuse to do so he called upon Jonas.

When Modred's forces descended upon Camelot Jonas thought bravely, killing hordes of men, but due to his inability to save Arthur he has been haunted every since.

Attributes:

Strength Level: Peak Human

Speed/Reaction Timing Level: Normal Human

Endurance at MAXIMUM Effort/Durability: Peak Human

Agility: Normal Human

Intelligence: Below Average

Fighting Skill: Expert

Resources: Minimal

Notable Equipment: Jonas carries with him a longsword which he wields in one hand, a large shield which he uses more as an offensive weapon than he does as a shield.

Weaknesses: The same rage that makes Jonas a formidable enemy also serves as his primary weakness. Often flying often the handle at the littlest of insults, especially those directed in any way towards the late King Arthur, who he is blindly loyal to. Jonas' lack of intelligence leads him to be easily manipulated, whilst he has no lack of common sense and is always guarded, sometimes Jonas fails to see the big picture and can be easily used as a pawn.

Supporting Characters (Does your character have a significant other? A mother? A Friend? Who are they, what do they have to do with your character?): None that are alive, but he is familiar/infamous around Camelot and Britain, his reputation for ferocity has spread far and wide and touched many. Amongst the deceased Arthur himself may be referenced in flashbacks, but other than that he's a lone wolf.

Describe using proper English grammar what you think you can bring to the RPG: Hopefully a character that's fairly interesting and has alot of story potential.

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: Once a day.

Do you know how to post pictures on the hype boards: Yes, indeed I do.

Sample Post (Minimum Four decent-sized paragraphs containing dialogue):

The streets of Camelot are no longer safe to walk at night. Under the reign of King Arthur one could leave their doors wide open throughout the night without being bothered. The same could not be said any longer. This city was once a pillar of all that was right, now the scum of the world called it home, if only Arthur could see it now.

Jonas Swain walked through the streets of Camelot without an ounce of doubt, everyone within the city's walls had heard the rumours about Swain, he struck terror into the very hearts of many of the city's inhabitants.

"You should know better than to walk these streets alone."

A man called out in an irish accent as he stepped from the shadows. Swain heard footsteps behind him and at once drew for his sword, before his assailants had time to react Swain had lopped the hand off the first man and spun quickly to face the remaning men. The two young men looked one another in the eye before sprinting off around the corner.

Jonas knelt next to the now one handed man who was weeping quietly.

"You're not from around here are you?"

The man cradled his bleeding stump and stared Jonas in the eye helplessly, he grabbed Swain's shoulder with his one remaning hand and pleaded with him.

"You're a k-knight! You can't do this! You have to help me, don't you? This is murder! Y-you're a knight!"

Swain swatted away the man's blood covered hands and stood up, raising his sword high above his head and placing his foot on the man's chest, he laughed sickeningly.

The blade landed on the man's neck with a dull thud and Swain placed it back in it's hilt with a satisfied look on his face before setting out on his journey once again.

You're approved, Belvedere. Just get with Andy C before posting as he's currently delving into the Camelot/Arthurian myths.

Wow, surprised we aren't swimming in a pool of elves. Majority of the PCs seem to be human.

So, is there room for another villain in this Athens arc that appears to be occuring. I've just gotten back from a weekend away, so I haven't yet read through the IC thread.

HA! Made the same comment to Byrd a few minutes back over MSN. Figured we'd have at least a few more of the pointy-eared, surface faeries running around.

What type of question is that?
There's always room for more evil.

F**k elves. Who needs those pointy-eared, bowstring-plucking, freespirit pansies anyway?

Please, don't get me started on the drow. They used to be interesting, but as it stands there are more dual-scimitar wielding renegade drow rangers than actual drow.

I know. I love Drizzt, but he's been a detriment to the entire race. In every fantasy game it seems there are always clones of him running around. :csad:

Sucks too since the only pics I could find for drow warriors to use for my character where of him. Since my guy only uses one sword, it's a ***** finding good pics with one of his blades hidden. :o

Gods & Men: The Ancient Myths RPG: SEASON I
Screen name:
Harlekin.
Character: Troy of Athens.
Speech colour and/or font: Troy's speech will be presented in Trebuchet MS.
Race/Culture: Troy is an Athenian human, although, concerning his abilities, his lineage is most likely mixed.
Racial traits: Troy has been gifted with the ability to communicate to all animals that traverse the Earth. As such, he can, to perfection, replicate the sounds necessary to communicate properly. For example, his wolf's howl would be indistinguishable from the real thing. Theoretically, he should also be able to reproduce sonar, although he's never had cause to test this.

Class: The closest Troy comes to a class is that of the minstrel. He's a wandering youngster of good morals. His fighting ability would not be on par with a fighter - lacking formal training but having been around animals for a long time - but he is capable of defending himself and can fight as dirty as a rogue would. He has no magical abilities.
Alignment: Good.
Personality: Troy is, to put it rather bluntly, a good guy. He has a distaste for injustice and won't stand idly by. Because of a rather odd upbringing, Troy is not the best socially, but people take an easy shine to his innate charisma. Kind-hearted, cunning and courageous.
Origin: Troy was once of Athens. Living on the edges of the city, Troy was cared for well by his parents. A mischevious boy, he had a good childhood and studied under the great minds of the city until his thirteenth, when his parents were both murdered. Troy left Athens behind shortly after and went into the countryside.

At one point, plucking berries, Troy was surrounded by a pack of wolves. While Troy was ready to fight them, a strange instinct took over and to his surprise, Troy started howling - communicating with the animals. Accepted into the pack of wolves, Troy spent the next four years in the forests around Athens, running alongside and learning from the animals there.

For years, Troy was content, living in and from nature. Slowly, he even began to forget his previous life. But the destruction of Athens jogged those locked away memories and the teenager has set out to reclaim what possessions and history are left of his family.

Attributes:
Strength: Normal human.
Speed/Reaction timing: Peak human.
Endurance/durability at MAXIMUM effort/durability: Normal human.
Agility: Peak human.
Intelligence: Above average.
Fighting skill: Trained.
Resources: Minimal.

Notable equipment: Troy carries three basic tools with him: a small piece of cloth that he uses as a bag, a slingshot that he carries on his belt when not using it and a rather straight, long piece of wood. This he uses as a walking stick and alternatively to carry his bag and thus, his items.

Weaknesses: There is nothing in particular that is hurtful to Troy. He has the standard weaknesses of a human and is prone to the same emotions and pains that we all are. The only weakness in his ability is that he obviously cannot communicate with those animals that are too feral to reason with.

Supporting characters: There's a number of characters that have had a significant role in Troy's life. Most of them are dead. The others are not involved with his current role. Troy's main supporting cast are the animals and other creatures that cross his paths.

What I can bring to this RPG: Troy's not a master sorcerer that can weild the elemental forces of life and call on the undead. Troy's not a grunting warrior with an axe the size of a child. Troy's just a boy of seventeen years old, sent on a quest and with the power to talk the animals.

How many times I intend to post a DAY in the RPG: Like always, I make no promises. I'll try to be as active as my life and motivation allow me to be.

Do you know how to post pictures on the Hype! boards? No.

Sample up soon.

Interesting character take, Harl. Definitely has me intrigued. It's a bit outside the box, but if anyone can pull it off it'd be you. Once you get your sample post up, you're approved.

But a Ranger would best describe your character. He has a helluva lot more in common with them than Minstrels.

Oh, and to let everyone know, I'm going to leave the picture voting open until next Sunday. That gives it a week for people to post pic ideas for the various sections, as well as vote for them.

I'll close it sometime next Sunday afternoon and tally up the votes, placing the winning pics in their chosen sections.

Gods & Men: The Ancient Myths RPG: SEASON I

Screen Name: Byrd Man

Character you have created (include known alias or nicknames here as well): Lord Hilarion, The Dead Knight

Race/Culture (What race is your character, and, if human, what culture does your character hail from, for example is your character Roman, Athenian, Celtic, Norse, Spartan, Persian, etc) (GMs must approve of any race not part of the big 5: Human, Elf, Dwarf, Halfling, and Orc): Undead Persian Male

Racial Traits (traits specific to your race; a list can be found in the second post of the OOC thread) (For races not listed, GMs must create traits for that race first before player approval):

Death Knight: Fear Aura (Death knights are shrouded in a invisible aura of death and dread. All those withing a 30ft radius are unnaturally shaken to the core and are a bit slower to react because of it; the death knight can suppress this aura if it chooses); Nightmare Mount (A Death Knight has the unique ability to summon to his side a nightmare loyal to him to serve as his steed. For info on a nightmare, see Bestiary); Dread Inspiration (A Death Knight has the unnatural ability to rally lesser undead creatures to his side. These undead remain obedient to the Death Knight until their destruction and gain a resistance to clerical turning when in it's presence. The Death Knight may only use this ability once per day); Hellfire Blast (The Death Knight has the ability to summon a blast of hellfire within a range of 400ft. The blast explodes in a radius of 20ft and harms even those immune to natural fire. The Death Knight may use this ability once per day); Undead (immune to mind-attacks, cold attacks, electrical attacks, negative energy attacks, disease, aging, poisons, polymorph, and paralysis & can only be harmed by magic and/or magical weapons; Being undead, the death knight does not need to eat, sleep, or breath and is beyond the physical wants and desires of mortals
Strength: Stronger than peak condition of base race
Speed/Reaction Time: Same as base race
Endurance/Durability: Undead (does not tire; no need for sleep, food, or air)
Agility: Same as base race

Character Class (Somewhat similar to the classes in the CAH RPG, but with some differences) (Choose One):

Fighter (the quintessential melee masters and weaponed warriors; fighters include soldiers, barbarians, gladiators, martial artists, rangers, and all general warriors)

Patron Deity (only required for those under the Paladin heading or those who are a priest, cleric, or other divine agent; others may choose one if they wish to flesh out their character more) (Your Patron Deity MUST be from the pantheon significant to your character's culture, I.E. no Odin worshipping Egyptian Priestess) (For the pantheons of the non-human races, see the links below the app): None, but pays hommage to the demon lord, Orcus

Speech Color and/or Font (actually say what you're using, i.e. Arial Black; don't go "Like this", or what not): Bold, Veranda and whatever you call this color.

Character Alignment (Good/Evil/Neutral): Evil

Character Personality (Give information on how your character acts, what he/she believes in, how they handle situations): Hilarion is vain, cold and smug. He believes himself to be right at all times, and does not care for his master, Charaun and believes him to be misguided in his actions and deeds.

Origin Info/Details (don't be blunt, be as thorough as possible):

Born in Persia to well to do parents, Lord Hilarion was born as Artashata in Susa during Alexander's reign on the world.

Artashata joined Alexander's army at the request of his father at the age of 16. Once in the army, the young man excelled in Alexander's calvary and became the young ruler's favorite aides.

He slowly grew jealous and tired of Alexander's rule. In 323 BC, in Babylon, Artashata poisoned Alexander and killed his old friend.

Realizing the error of his ways, he fled Babylon, scared of what was to come.

Artashata wound up in Greece, where he changed his name to Lord Hilarion and formed a band of Mercenaries known as The Swords of Ares.

For years, he and his band travelled the world, accepting new members to fill the vacany of resigned members of those that fell in battle.

After performing a job for former member Charaun, he and his friends were rewarded with their deaths.

Charaun raised Hilarion as a Dead Knight and as the leader of his army of the dead. Now, the leader of The Swords of Ares is now just a pawn in The Swords of Orcus.

Attributes (Select one from each category) (some races are greater or weaker than a human in specific categories and will be noted below or in the racial traits section of the OOC thread):

Strength Level: Peak Human

Speed/Reaction Timing Level: Normal Human, Peak Human

Endurance at MAXIMUM Effort/Durability: Undead

Agility: Peak Human (Elves are more agile than a man in peak condition; Halflings are slightly more agile than a man in peak condition; Dwarves are less agile than a man in peak condition; Orcs are the same)

Intelligence: Above-Average

Fighting Skill: Expert

Resources: Large

Notable Equipment (Items your character has on them of relevance, such as thieving tools if they're a rogue, holy items if they're a priest, magic weapons and/or armor, magic items, etc; we assume you're character has basic stuff, like rations, waterskin, and a torch or lantern; be as specific as possible as well as realistic as possible, I.E. if your character is carrying a ton of stuff their mobility and endurance will be sorely hindered; also keep in mind that magic items are rare, expensive, and difficult to make) (For ideas for notable equipment, and magic items, check out the link below the app): Hilarion carries the same scimitar he had when he was in Alexander's calvary. Over 1,000 warriors have met their death on this blade, and Hilarion plans on a 1,000 more.

Seeing as how he is undead, the only thing he also has on him is his armor and his nightmare, an undead horse he calls Bucephalus.

Weaknesses (If your character has any specific weakness, such as a vampire's weakness to sunlight (among other things) or a Faerie's weakness to iron, list them here): He's undead, motha ****er!

Supporting Characters (Does your character have a significant other? A mother? A Friend? Who are they, what do they have to do with your character?): The Sowrds of Orcus

Describe using proper English grammar what you think you can bring to the RPG: Decent RPer

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: Much as needed

Do you know how to post pictures on the hype boards:
Lich-ServantHilarion.gif

Sample Post (Minimum Four decent-sized paragraphs containing dialogue):

Athens

His black horse strod proudly over the scorched land as they rode through the streets of the city-state that had once been Athens.

Lord Hilarion gazed at the destruction and carnage and was in awe at Charaun's work.

He had never really warmed up to the little runt when they were together in The Swords of Ares. It had been Kallisto's idea that they even bring him into their group.

He was glad when the scorceror had left their ranks after a decade of service. In Hilarion's mind, it had been a decade too long.

He had his worries when Charaun had employed him to find those artifacts. He had been right when their reward was death and servitude under "Master Charaun".

As much as he hated the Lich, he respected his power.

"Lord Hilarion." A wraith said as it came to a stop next to him.

"Riders to the North. Vikings from the looks of them."

The Dead Knight nodded and pulled his curved blade out of its holster.

"Call the calvary. I believe I shall greet them in person."

Even though they are, in fact, cannon fodder, I'd appreciate it if anyone bunnying them (Which all are welcome to do in the coming fight) could have them be at least a BIT of a challenge.

Kick ass app, Byrd.

Thanks, Sensei. Still wanting to have my crazy inventor meet your savage band of noble warriors.

Gunnar and his trio of vikings has just entered Athens and will soon run into Rothgar, so le Doktore is welcome to join us.

Sample post:
The wolf circled Troy and snarled. The boy smiled, setting his feet apart and hunching over, his fingers curling as if they were claws. He let out a similar snarl, indicating he was ready.

The wolf charged towards him, its feet barely touching the wet grass. Troy braced himself for the impact and then the two collided. The teenager staggered for a moment and then the two fell to the ground. Troy let out a laugh, the wolf a satisfying howl. The creature moved across his chest to lick the boy's face.

"Dag!" Troy exclaimed as he petted the wolf's head and pushed him off him. As Troy got up, the wolf circled him, wagging his bushy tail. The teenager wiped the animal's saliva from his face with his makeshift shirt and then brushed the dirt off his knees. He had a ripped robe tied around his legs, something he had taken from a city man that had come into the forest with a lady love.

Suddenly, Troy's companion let out a frightened howl.

"What's the matter, friend?"

A large shadow cast itself over the duo as the sound of heavy boots set upon the ground marked a new arrival.

"Oh."

Byrd, mind if I have Troy spot the Docktore coming up the way?
