You do realize that the Superman/Zod fight was about five whole minutes, right?

It seemed like more than that because the movie had already been pretty long. I just wanted it to end by that point.

It certainly felt longer. It honestly felt like a re-hash of the Matrix Revolutions Neo/Smith fight, but with better FX.

But enough off-topic talk.

Fair enough. Anyway, with this film, I don't care how long the final battle is, as long as it feels epic.

Saw the trailer again last night with Spider-Man 2 still gave me goosebumps even after seeing the asia trailer, wish they rolled that bad boy out last night but alas, tis the asia trailer lol.

I like the idea of a less is more approach, though I can see how it might potentially hurt the box office. No matter though, as long as I get a good movie out of it.

Some of the early reactions are saying it's a full hour before we even see Godzilla, but the mentioning of Jaws and Jurassic Park sounds just about right.

I just hope we don't get the Ang Lee Hulk effect. Huge opening weekend but then word of mouth is so bad that the second weekend drops like a stone.

I think it might be the opposite - I could see the film having legs in its second and third weekends if reviews and buzz are strong enough.

Don't think that will happen, the screening buzz has been positive, and I expect it to be just this. A few are nitpicking the "Limited screen time" of Godzilla detail a bit. But it's not negative, it only blows up and becomes something negative if you give it attention and make it seem like it.

So personally for me, I'm just not going to mind that little matter. I'll see the film for myself to judge, although with the approach being similar to the veins of Aliens or Jaws, and Godzilla generally appearing an hour in, I already find this approach well invested in my book.

By May 8th during the world premiere, we'll have another wave of buzz and I'm certain it'll be much more enticing that what we have to go on currently.

I actually like the idea of less is more. I mean it's a mindless beast fighting other beasts. There's a fine line between where the movie becomes a gratuitous CGI fest that rehashes the same basic fight over and over again.

I'm the kind of person who'd prefer to eat a tiny piece of the richest chocolate after my dinner rather than overdosing like a gordo on a bunch of average chocolate.

It's a tricky balancing act because a lot of people will go to a Godzilla movie to see, well Godzilla. They don't care much about the other stuff, they want to see the big guy. Sort of like when people go to see the Transformers movies to see the Transformers, only to discover that they're barely in their own franchise. I'm not saying that this movie will be as bad as the Bayformers films, I REALLY don't think that it will, but the screentime argument is more comparable.

Perhaps the comment is being misinterpreted. Or perhaps the person that made the comment believed this movie was not as good as the "stone cold classics" he or she was comparing it to.

Also redhawk23, I just see a lot of fans for this movie acting like devoted groupies and will not accept any type of criticism against it. That's how it is starting to come off.

And to be clear, on one hand I get it. We are all fans and fervent for something. The trailers for this movie have been very impressive. A lot of us feel cheated by the 1998 and this movie looks like the exact opposite.

Really, where? On here? Because I really haven't seen the kind of crap that usually goes on on this site, on here, on tumblr or really elsewhere.

I've yet to see any Godzilla fans making death or rape threats to reviewers who dare to give the movie less than a 11/10 as is what has happened with TDKR, Avengers, ASM etc.

Also your comment reminded me of this

Quite honestly I haven't seen much criticism of the film yet, more will come once the embargo is lifted but really, if the story or the characters were bad someone would have complained about it by now. The reports of the film holding back on Godzilla until the second half were kind of expected given how much Edwards has talked up Jaws and Alien himself in months past (that others are using the same reference point indicates he got his intent across). Plus he did pretty much the same thing in Monsters.

Also I wonder when the MUTO's come into play. With the focus on how much Godzilla we're getting people haven't mentioned the fact that there are multiple other monsters.

Eh. If it happens, it happens. I've still got a good movie out of it.

Limited screentime for Godzilla doesn't bother me as long as it feels epic when he shows up.

The typical young male tool-bag(who thinks the fast and furious films are the greatest films ever) will probably have a problem with the slow burn. They will ***** and moan about the "lack" of Godzilla and will relentlessly run their moronic mouths about it.

I for one would like Godzilla to have some weight and impact when he shows up. Like Jaws or Jurassic Park with the T-rex.

Out of a 2 and half hour movie, the Joker is only in 33 minutes of The Dark Knight. True, he shows up in the opening scene, but still, many of the most effective movie characters are not actually on screen much.

Do you prefer your Goji Bear-shaped or Pear-Shaped?

This brings up a point. In a number of recent articles, like Empire Magazine, it was mentioned that the film opens with the 1954 footage, so we'd at least get glimpses of Godzilla from the start wouldn't we? Since we see Godzilla rising out of the ocean just before the bomb detonation, which we've been led to believe all happens in 1954:

Hannibal Lecter is only in The Silence of the Lambs for like 16 minutes.

Which is about as long as Hopkins ham could be sustained effectively, the sequels drove that into the ground.

Mads Mikkelson only works in a continuing TV series because he's so damn subtle about everything.

But seriously I've seen more tweets from people that were happy that edwards didn't "blow his load on the first shot of Godzilla."

(Weird how often I've seen that exact phrasing)

As much as I usually don't care what the general public thinks, it's gotta make some money if it's gonna be the start of a new franchise. I personally liked the Nightmare on Elm Street reboot but not many others did... and so there's not a sequel to be found.

Edit: And about creature screen times... how much time did the T-Rex have in the first JP? That is probably THE defining character/creature in a movie from my childhood. I was six when the movie came out and I loved every second it was on screen. If Godzilla has that much impact what's to complain about? I'm sure there will be plenty of screentime from the MUTOs in addition.
