Hello

New to this forum and I just wanted to share my enthusiasm for this movie with everyone else. :yay:

I really enjoyed Gareth's first film Monsters. So I'm really looking forward to seeing what he does here, specifically with the human characters.

Welcome! :) It's a great time to be a Godzilla/Kaiju fan right now.

Hiroshi Koizumi is liking his new hat.

Just seen the new Godzilla fiat advert, don't know what's stupider the advert as a whole or

The fact they have to add a warning that ........."THIS DIDNT ACTUALLY HAPPEN"

Seriously have we become so stupid as a people that we have to be warned a car ad with a 400ft giant monster isn't real:doh:

Haven't seen a single negative early review. Not a single one.

I seriously can't wait to see this baby in IMAX 3D. I'm watching Spidey tomorrow and then on the 15th I'll be seeing Goji.

Damn good month. :hehe:

Well the movie didn't come out yet so of course it didn't happen. Use your common sense. Jeez.

That's good. I'm sure they had most of the reviewers watch the 98 first then watch this. :p

Don't be so harsh man! Maybe it's a very tongue in cheek advert or a viral one that blurs reality and fiction to get you in the mood for the movie. Lighten up just a bit. :cwink:

no mate i'm sorry but this is just one point

we had another car ad here in the uk where a mini drives off a cliff into the water and goes under water to arrive at the south of france

and they had across the bottom, "car is not aquatic please do not actually try"

the only reason they have to have these warnings is some moron actually thought they could

I think these disclaimers are hilarious personally.

If the word of mouth is correct, and this film has the same type of build-up and tone of the original Jurassic Park, then that is exciting stuff then.

I hope it's better than Jurassic Park though. JP was a decent enough film, but as a fan of the book, the movie bugged me to some degree. They sucked a lot of the technical stuff out of it (which wasn't that hard to understand... I was in junior high when I read the book and I understood it) and changed the personalities of some of the key characters. I wish Spielberg could explain why he took Jeff Goldblum... a man who EXCELS at playing nerds... and instead of having him play Malcolm as the uptight, brilliant dweeb that he is, he has him act like a smartass rock star who basically contributes nothing but one-liners through the whole movie. WTF?

The first half of the book had too much techno babble. Pages and pages of nothing but charts and graphs. How exactly do you translate that to film without alienating the audience or confusing them? It got the tech stuff across just fine imo with the little the Mr. DNA film. It's a clever way to give exposition.

And Malcolm did more than give one liners. He was the most vehement against the park and was the conscious of the story.

Off topic but Godzilla-related: the DVD and blu-ray releases of King Kong vs Godzilla; do any of them have the japanese version?

Some more reactions.
Phillip Martinez (@PhilMar88) tweeted at 7:13 AM on Sun, May 04, 2014: @Bishop54 it was amazing. Mixed the best parts of the old films and put it in a modern setting.

David Bishop (@Bishop54) tweeted at 7:18 AM on Sun, May 04, 2014: @PhilMar88 Wonderful! How was the CGI? Do you feel Godzilla had enough screen time? How were the characters, acting, and pacing?

Godzilla 2014 ***** Watched May 03, 2014 Featuring great performances, stunning special effects, incredible tension, goosebump-inducing sound design, a pulse-pounding score and spectacular set pieces, Gareth Edwards' GODZILLA is absolutely brilliant. This sets the bar incredibly high for every other summer blockbuster remaining this summer. My only regret is that I wish Bryan Cranston had more screentime. Otherwise, this film lives up to the hype. P.S. Please see the film in IMAX or any other large format theater if possible!

All this great reception. Eh, this movie will still suck big donkey balls.

That was a terrible lie. Wasn't it? :csad: :oldrazz:

They had pages and pages of just dna code, computer code and tons of other stuff that no one would understand unless they had a background in it in the book. I loved the book and liked bits they took out of it to put in other movies like the flyers cage in III. I did miss the big boat ride Grant and the kids took around the park though. I've always thought that was one of the highlights of the book. Especially when they got to the waterfall with the T-Rex.

As per Malcolm though he was supposed to be the 'rock star' of the nerds at the time with his dark clothing and his cray theorys that made all the assistants swoon. :p

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one. To me, Mr. DNA was the Jar-Jar of that film (even though it was years before Jar-Jar existed). I'm not saying they had to bog down the first half of the film with technical jargon. I don't specifically know what they could have done. But what they went with was eyeroll inducing.

As for Malcolm... I don't know; when he discusses chaos theory and all that in the book, it seemed like it was the result of a man who had put in countless hours of study. Malcolm in the movie just seemed like a guy with a little more common sense than the delusional old man.

Mr. DNA is great. It was done in a way where it seems like it's the prologue to a ride at Disneyland, hens the schlock.

Love it.

So apparently new Godzilla is fat according to some Japanese fans. :funny:

Meh, it comes from a Japanese version of 4Chan. Doesn't hold much weight.......See what I did there? :o

They have reason to be pissed at him considering the history between them.

Next we'll hear allegations that Godzilla was actually airbrushed on the cover of Empire.
