Godzilla is #4 on Movietickets.com's top sellers, with 6% of ticket sales. I think that's better than how Amazing Spider-Man 2 was performing the 12 days before release.

Check Spotify. ;)

But if you're a lazy type, it's got some inspiration from John Williams, Desplat's Zero Dark Thirty, and Heisei Godzilla Ifukube.

Godzilla: Awakening Graphic Novel Review
Screen-Shot-2014-05-05-at-2.09.52-PM.jpg

Awakening picks up decades before the main action of the film and focuses on Mr. Serizawa, who was present when the story began at the bombing of Hiroshima. The book uses this character, who is a reference both in himself and in his son to Dr. Serizawa from the original Japanese Godzilla film, to bridge the original’s story with the new version. This sense of connection to the original movie and Godzilla‘s past of nuclear symbolism is one of the strongest points of the book.

There's more to it, but I can't wait to really dig into this :D

I'll be picking mine up on Wednesday too. I realize that as a set-up story, there's going to be a limited amount of Godzilla action, but I hope it's better than the Pacific Rim tie-in comic. I expected a lot more out of that one than what we got.

I'm listening to the score on Spotify. Actually quite awesome, another feather in Alexandre Desplat's cap.

Word has it (if it isn't already abundantly clear) Warner and Legendary are ridiculously confident about this movie.

I think this will be the big break-out hit of the summer. I kinda suspected it'd do well but I think it's going to really overperform if audiences shine to it.

The soundtrack is out?

I'm still going with a $65-75 million opening, but I do think it could overperform if the film lives up to the hype.

Not sure what to make of the score. It's not giving off the tone I thought the movie would. I hope it works better in the film. Some of the tracks sound too bombastic and reminds me of the type of music that would be played in an old school Star Trek movie lol.

Most of the monster shots were typical partial body shots, but you get good full body shots and none of that unnecessary shaky cam

There were also some really amazing nature long shots and the soundtrack was great. Very ominous and powerful

I saw it in 3D, which is never ideal, but it made for some really amazing depth in a few select scenes

I thought it was really good, especially for the way Hollywood likes to shoot modern monster movies

Personally I think the Pacific Rim comic had better character work than the movie. Plus it had a lot more of Karloff.

[/URL]For the most part the acting was believable. You probably couldn't ask Hollywood for a better Godzilla film

One Piece ‏@M0nkeyD_Luffy 34m @ERRRskate151 Do the trailers ruin the money-shots like Amazing Spider-Man 2?

Marcus TSB K)) ‏@ERRRskate151 29m @M0nkeyD_Luffy not in the slightest!

It's a good set-up story, but some plot developments don't make sense.

I'm pretty much okay with that. What is Godzilla if not bombastic?

Some of that is Desplat's stylistic nod to Ikufube's work on the original Gojira. And some of that is Desplat's own touches.

Desplat is a classically-trained composer and he has his own sound. I like it whenever he or Michael Giacchino get a high-profile project to work on, because it means they'll deliver a pleasing orchestral score. I'm getting worn out on the Zimmer sound that's taken over Hollywood nowadays.
