I also don't understand that the MUTO's driving the plot as a negative complaint. How is that different from Joker or John Doe or Sauron? The villains often drive the plot, but that doesn't mean that suddenly the protagonist is meaningless or useless or not the main character.

One of the main comparisons was to Jaws; the shark drives the plot entirely yet the three men are clearly the main characters. Why is there no complaining that they are only 'reactionary'?

Best thing about the movie IMHO...

[BLACKOUT]Atomic breath. It was awesome. Best atomic breath ever for sure. Loved how he shot it down the throat to kill the second MUTO.[/BLACKOUT]

I thought he was gonna kill momma MUTO like King Kong did the T-Rex, but one last breath was awesome!

That is my point. The marketing TO ME felt like it was strongly hinting at an update on the 1954 film where Godzilla is the villain. He was definitely not portrayed as a hero in the marketing campaign.

Plus the Joker was ABSOLUTELY portrayed as an agent of chaos in the marketing and he lived up to that hype. There was nothing misleading about that marketing at all IMHO. I've also seen plenty of complaints from people that most of the Batman movies have the villains taking over instead of the main character. That has been a common complaint about those films for years. TDK is no exception to that.

Amen. [BLACKOUT]I loved the depiction of the Atomic Breath. And going into sequels, it will help prevent the fights becoming the laser fights we can often see in the Heisei series[/BLACKOUT]

I understand your complaints. I can easily see how many would be disappointed or frustrated. But for some reason, those issues did not bother me. And it is just weird, seeing some of the reactions here as compared to the critics.

Anyway, extremely excited to see it again on the IMAX.

One of my favorite cinematic moments of all time, let alone just a Godzilla movie I had goosebumps all over and started clapping.

Yeah, I had a big grin on my face during that scene. Edwards did a great job with the visuals of this movie. :woot:

I've come back from watching it liked what I saw,.

The tone of the film and origin of The Big G was good and the effects were pretty great. That first shot of when we see Godzilla properly for the first time is epic. We don't get much of the Big G but when we do is pretty epic. The last half hour is just fight.

LET THEM FIGHT!

8/10

Gave the movie an 8 out of 10. I had a really good time last night.

I saw it in Imax 3D and while the big screen and loud sound were appreciated, the 3D was just trash most of the time. And this is coming from someone who is not nitpicky about 3D very much at all. Most movies that offer 3D I see in 3D because I like it and I hardly complain. It did not add much depth to this movie and was poorly done, which is a big missed opportunity with giant monsters. Maybe it was how my particular theatre was set up? I dont know, but it didnt do anything for me and I'm easy to please.

Plot thoughts:

The plot felt a bit sparse, however I did think that it was really cool that the humans were basically helpless in this movie. Nothing they did mattered much, or even made things worse. When Godzilla is on the scene you shutup and watch. He was treated with the respect he deserves.

The designs were cool, I even loved the MUTOs. They were great.

It was a beautiful movie with beautiful shots. I loved how they "shot" the monsters. Keeping the camera underneath was appropriate.

I loved how Japan-centric the movie was for a while. Definitely giving some respect to Godzilla's homeland. I'm a bit sad that Tokyo didn't get a good jostling, though.

The sound design was great.

The music was exciting.

I'm used to Godzilla being either a villain or an anti-hero. Being just straight up hero is very strange to me. The humans should have simply been standing in silent awe at the end, rather than cheering and clapping. And the music in that scene was a bit over the top. I think I prefer Godzilla as an anti-hero. Just a tiny bit of hostility towards humans at some point would have appeased me.

The only cutaway that really gutted me was the airport. The cut felt really awkward.

I think there is a bit in the middle where it dragged a little that they could cut out.

I like the "origin" in the prequel comic better than the movie. In the movie they say a nuclear sub lured the kaiju to the surface. In the prequel comic they say it was Hiroshima that had them poking around the surface. I feel that the message there is a lot stronger.

I wish Serizawa had more to do. Overall I wish there was more plot.

To my surprise the movie seems more modeled after later-Showa rather than 54. 54 was more emotional.

Is this a 2 hour movie? Would people be complaining less about the lack of G-time if was only 90 minutes?

didn't like it at all. Boring as hell for 3/4 of the movie and the headline at the end was the cheesiest thing ever. 6.5/10. Wouldn't recommend it.

Great scene. My favorite scene has to be either that or the [blackout]paradrop, specifically when we see Godzilla and one of the MUTOs fighting.[/blackout]

Just came back from my second viewing and found it more enjoyable when I knew what to expect.

I have no idea if I want to go see this or not. The critics score is good, but I keep hearing about one dimensional characters and the director cutting away from fights in stupid ways and only 20 minutes of godzilla and that its boring for the first two-thirds so its all left me very confused about what exactly this movie is. And the marketing is apparently a lie so I have absolutely zero to go on for any idea about what this film is.

The trailers also clearly suggest its Godzilla destroying everything when pretty much everything but the tidal wave is the MUTOs.

Sooooooo :woot: the Asia Trailer is the one that is correct. That one paints Godzilla as a God who is gonna take out the MUTOS.

 6.5/10 sounds like a recommendation lol. Or is that just barely passable?

I'm glad I've been spoiled to hell and read lots of stuff. I dunno if I would had like the movie if I went in based on WB's lie of a ad campaign.

ALSO GODZILLA OPENS TO 9.3m in late night showings.

I paid almost $15 to see it. I wouldn't go so far as to say I completely regret it because the action sequences were still cool to see on the big screen, but as a paying customer I have every right to complain if I feel the final product was a letdown from what they were hyping.

I am so lucky Godzilla(2D) is playing during the $5.75 ticket times Sat afternoon. Did you see it in 3D? I know night time prices is like $10 something here at the Carmike. I don't think most movie's are worth even $10 bucks at night.

Yea pretty much. The MUTOs are the "villains", cause the vast majority of the destruction, and have more screen time.
