i actually loved that movie... one of my favorites... in fact, if i remember correctly, G98 was the whole reason the Millennium series exists

That animation studio who did Godzilla and Men In Black was amazing. are they still around?

Both shows were better than the actual movies, especially Men in Black. While Men in Black 2 and 3 touted the 'villain of the week', the cartoon was more into depth of the MIB culture. Plus it was a lot more serious than the movies but still maintain a sense of humor.

Yup. Godzilla was taking a break in Japan after 1995's Godzilla vs Destoroyah, where they killed Godzilla, and would return in 2005. Zilla 98 happened and Toho was like "The Americans created something that's NOT Godzilla so we'll make another one to do damage control and make a quick buck." That's how the Millennium Series came about.

How is the hype on THIS Godzilla in Japan I wonder? I wonder what the tracking is like?

It's coming out in July so the hype should build over there. Toho apparently LOVED it so that's (hopefully) a good sign.

Why Godzilla 2000?

It was basically made for a quick buck and with forgettable characters and story. I do love the monster battles. I much prefer Godzilla 2000> Godzilla vs Megguirus.

You got that right. Megaguirus was bad movie. For such a good looking monster Megaguirus was lifeless and stiff. Definitely not the best Godzilla flick. The vs SpaceGodzilla of the millennium movies.

I just watched Godzilla 2000 for the first time the other night I was pretty underwhelmed to say the least, but I love Godzilla's design in that film. I was very surprised at how horrible the cgi looked for being made around the year 2000 I mean it was really bad work.

Yeah, the CG was not good. If their CG video games look better than their films, something is not right.

The irony is that the Japanese have never been really good with CGI in general for their live action films. Weird.

Toho disowned the movie but liked the cartoon enough they nicknamed him Godzilla Junior.

I actually watched Godzilla 2000 today with my nephews. I love that movie. Orga is my favorite monster with Destroyah coming in next.

Godzilla 2000 was okay, but I was expecting more after Godzilla '98 perplexed me so. The climax with Orga is all that sticks out from it.

The cartoon continuation was decent at least, which makes me that much more confused that the movie was such a misfire.

God, I hate the dub job on Godzilla 2000. I spent money importing the original Japanese subtitled version on VCD back in the day and it's more enjoyable to watch. The only thing Tristar's slash job improved was Orga's roar which is just a squeak in the original version.
