Golden Globe Nominations

Glad Heath was given a nomination. Hope he wins it! It's too bad TDK wasn't nominated for best picture. It deserves to be on the list.

Go Tony Shalhoub!!!

I think Cruise is an inspired choice. Comedies rarely get love so I don't mind his nomination from a hilarious role at all.

The fact that the Globes shunned "Milk" pretty much altogether annoys me. This was an excellent movie and one of the best reviewed films of the year. I haven't seen "The Reader" or "Revolutionary Road," but I have read early reviews calling both films "mediocre."

Of course, this may be a case where there simply were "better" movies than "Milk," but I have a pretty good feeling that the Globes' celebrity circle jerking is one of the reasons why "Milk" didn't get nominated for Best Picture or any other acting nods aside from Penn (Emile Hirsch? Diego Luna? Psssh... who needs no-names when we can have Leo or Kate playing characters they've already played before, but in period pieces???)

In addition to that travesty, Tom Cruise's nomination for "Tropic Thunder" proves why the Globes are losing weight as a legitimate awards outlet. Robert Downey, Jr. was excellent in that film, but Cruise doesn't deserve a nomination for that hammy performance.

I am pleased to see Heath Ledger nominated for Best Supporting Actor, and "Slumdog Millionaire" nominated for Best Picture. Other than those two nominations, though, nothing makes me excited for this overrated, mind-numbing "awards" show.

Tom Cruise did not deserve that nom but the Globes suck so I don't expect anything else but ridiculous choices.

Why the hell does "Ugly Betty" always get nominated for awards? That show is f**king horrible.

Seconded. Same goes for Mad Men, but for different reasons.

Supporting actor is all TDK was ever guaranteed come awards season. Director and Picture was always a stretch. I thought the Best Picture category might've been weak this season since projected favorites like Australia and Changeling weren't received well but it looks like their spaces are being filled rather easily without going to the blockbusters like Wall-E or TDK.

agreed.
I'm really glad Heath got it though. If I had to choose one nomination from that film, I wanted it to be for his performance.

Mad Men is a brillaint show.

I find it so annoying that Ledger is going to continue winning "sorry you overdosed" awards. If he was actually winning them and being nominated soley based on his performance I wouldn't have a problem but he's not so it's silly. The whole TDK thing is just so silly to me.

TDK deserves many awards, but the main ones are Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor and Best Cinematography.

I'll agree with supporting actor and (even though this one is murky, because it wasn't really adapted from one source) Adapted Screenplay. Okay maybe director too even though I hated the direction of the action scenes was a red hot passion.

I can't believe TDK only got one nomination. I'm surprised. I guess it won't do well for the Oscars.

I think TDK will get more Oscar noms, but that is if there is Oscar this year (SAG will likely go on strike and subsequently boycott Academy Award).

Huh? It's getting recognition and on award predictions because it's a great film. I doubt it's just because of Heath for the main reason.

The Incredibles won the award for the adapted screenplay, although it was based on the series of comics.

And Nolan's main target wasn't making action packed film, so it was irrelevant as long as everything looked epic enough.

Eh, I don't think that the movie would have made as much money or got as much awards attention without Ledger's death. End of Story. I know you all disagree but thats my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

Wasn't irrelevent to me. And I never said that that was Nolan's intent, I said that I hated the direction of the action scenes and that opinion is not going to change...good thing it was a great movie otherwise but I damn sure took off half a point for that.

Good point about the incredibles.

Wrong point about The Incredibles. It was nominated for Best Original Screenplay and didn't win.

TDK is based upon comics published by DC Comics. Yeah, the plot and dialogue is somewhat original, but the characters and many incidents are lifted directly from the comics. It's clearly an adapted story.

I have a feeling that the Oscars will remedy the snubbing today with a Best Director nomination. I'm kind of doubtful about a Best Picture nomination. I'm really doubtful about a Screenplay nomination, and I think it has no real chance of winning. I wouldn't vote for it with the "Gordon faking his own death" subplot that seemingly plays no importance or the Batman wannabes subplot that goes nowhere. It's a good screenplay, but it really has too many ideas to fit into the structure of a movie and some ideas suffer as a result.

So it was nominated for Best Orignal screenplay.

I think that TDK will get a best pic and director nom at the Oscars but I think that screenplay is iffy too. As for your opinion about the screenplay, you are 150% right. AKA, I agree with you.

I agree with this.
I saw the film two times in theaters and love it but I still believe what I said.

It is nice to have another person who agrees with me. I'm going to watch the film again on my borrowed DVD tonight or tomorrow.

Man, f*** Tom Cruise. Yes, he was funny and all, but in no way deserving of a supporting actor nom. They should have dropped him and given the extra spot to Aaron Eckhart. That man was the unsung hero of TDK.

If brilliance is tantamount to boredom-inducing, then yes you are correct. I watched a full episode and felt as if someone was playing a prank on me. It was The Sopranos all over again, except The Sopranos had Jersey accents, which made me hate it all that much more.

I'm pretty sure it has to be adapted from ONE story. TDK was inspired by many elements from certain Batman tales but it wasn't directly adapted from anything. I'm sure it doesn't even share a single line of dialog with a single dialog bubble from anything. It shouldn't be nominated in that category and I'm sure isn't even being considered for it.

I always have issue with films that get nominated that aren't released yet...IE Benjamin Button

There are some elements from 'Dark Victory' in there....what I didn't like (and it's a nitpick) is that in the books Harvey already had a wife prior to becoming Two Face....
