Good third movies, do any exist?

Its up for personal debate on whether or not its "good" but I enjoyed Universal Soldier Regeneration, the third Van Damme UniSol film.

Universal Soldier The Return was pretty weak IMO and it seems like the consensus is that US3 is a better movie. Instead of a watered down rehash like part 2 part three 3 some fresh ideas.

Toy Story 3
The Boune Utimatum
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

All these are good.

Your opinions and such but wtf:huh: X3 is better than Azkaban and Goldfinger? Terminator 3 is better than Return of the King?

yeah its his taste...but im more confused as to how terminator 3 is better than the first and same for die hard...

So everyone already hating on TDKR? I don't know for certain, but so far we have confirmation on a few major characters and some minor roles/uncast actors. Rememebr when we thought that Anthony Michael Hall would be a major character through the viral marketing, or that Reese would be someone of major importanc,e and look at what they really amounted to in TDK. but this is not that discussion.

I gotta say:
Back to the Future 3- love it more than 2.
Return of the Jedi- this was my favorite as a kid. Not for Ewoks either, but the last act is really great.
Scream 3- Its my least favorite of the 4, but as part of the trilogy, it works for me. I just don't like certain things it tried to pull.
Indiana Jones/Last Crusade- Better than Temple and KOTCS.
Day of the Dead- Worst of the original 3 Dead films, but it is not a bad film in itself.
Nightmare/Elm street 3- ITs debatable, and I'm someone who thinks Part 2 is a fantastic sequel, but I love this as the last kinda serious sequel.
Halloween 3- When you get over the "its not a Michael Myers film", it really is not bad.
Toy Story 3- need I say more?
Phantasm III- I think the whole series hold up pretty well.
Ghostbusters: The Video Game- before someone calls me out that this was not movie, until I hear solid proof its happening, this will be my Ghostbusters 3. Great story, great acting from the cast, and brought me back to the original film with a lot of the good from the second film too.
The Exorcist III- I've read the book of this, and while the film ruins the fantastic ending of the book( in Blatty's defense, it was the studio that opted for the change), it is a far better sequel than Exorcist II or the two prequel films.
Harry Potter/Prisoner of Azkaban- One of my favorites of the series.

I actually like Goldmember.

"Runs away"

Definitely counts as good, it's gotten positive reviews all over the joint.

John Hyams for the inevitable Batman reboot plz. :awesome:

I think the problem with third movies in big, blockbuster franchises is that they fall into the pitfall of trying to outdo the sequel, which is usually trying to outdo the first. They throw more and more characters at it. They throw more and more high concepts at it. Which usually ends up with too many characters to develop and too many stories/concepts to flesh out.

Good ones that stick out for me though are Toy Story 3, Die Hard with a Vengeance and... Alien 3. Yea i said it, Alien 3 :D Well, the the Assembly Cut anyway.

As far as third films are concerned nothing beats Toy Story 3. My favorite of the franchise.

Die Hard with a Vengeance
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
The Godfather: Part III
The Return of the King
Toy Story 3
The Dark Knight Rises (yeah, I'm that sure about the movie)

And X3. I love Nolan but you really just never know.

Day of the Dead- Worst of the original 3 Dead films, but it is not a bad film in itself.

I know it's your opinion, but go back and watch it closely. Watch it back to back with the others.

It wasn't my favorite when I first watched it, but now I think it's the greatest zombie movie ever made.

And what Tom Savini and his crew did? A-ma-zing. No other zombie movie has come close to the effects that he created, save for maybe the Night remake(which Savini directed) or the Walking Dead(which Greg Nicotero does, and if you remember he was Savini's right hand man and was also in Day.) Also CGI can't come close to touching what Savini did 25 years ago.

I'm not trying to be a downer or anything but I really hope those who are saying TDKR are right, I really do. I personally cannot see it topping TDK though. As interesting as Bane and Catwoman are I just can't see them holding a candle to the Joker who will always be Batman's #1 villain, plus Harvey/Two Face, who many consider #2. I'm not doubting the film will be great but I'm just surprised to see so many people thinking TDKR will top TDK. I really hope it can but in reality I just don't see it happening.

I agree with you on this one.

Sometimes I'm inclined to think Batman Begins was a better film. It's hard to imagine anyone will top The Dark Knight's villains though. I'll settle for it being as good as TDK and BB , which Nolan is capable of doing.

People were that sure about Spider-Man 3 as well.
Sam Raimi always had a MUCH shakier track record than Nolan, though. For such a hit-and-miss director like that, after two good movies in a row, the odds were high for that one to crash and burn. Nolan's made 7 films so far, and he has yet to make a movie that's worse than "good," imo. I don't necessarily expect TDKR to "top" TDK - I expect it to be totally different, but I do still expect it to at least be a good movie.

And were people really saying that about X3? I certainly didn't hear them. From what I recall, most people I talked to thought that would be a disaster the moment Brett Ratner came on board.

If you look to it that way. I judge it on how much i like and fit in the franchise expections. In general i like Hp3 more then X-men 3.

LOTR 3 disapointed me in the final result. If i whant give it a higher rank then i must buy the extented cut (for only 9 of 40 minutes) what i don't whant.
