Gotham City Concept Thread

Dammit...I want Keyser as Bruce too. :csad:

Fine, Harvey. :o

I've been thinking about it, and once you really open up the playing field, you're pretty much going for Ult. DC RPG, Part Deux.

Yeppers.
I know I wasn't around for the first WSS romp, so I don't know how guest characters were handled.
But, I think they should be few and far between, if used at all.
This is a Gotham-based RPG after all, so the majority of the characters should be Gothamites.

If the worry is that once the big guns (Batman, Joker, Gordon, etc) are gone that people won't want to join, then why not allow created characters?

We didn't actually have guests during WSS?. It was about to be implemented.

Thing is, if we start moving more towards superhero fare, then there's really no reason why people can't just play in the Ult. DC and regular DC RPGs instead.

You are correct, sir!

Which is why I call shenanigans on potential guest characters. Keep it Gotham only.

All ya'll other characters can git out! :cmad:

The rule for the guest stars was they were around for a month in real time, and after that, they weren't to be picked up again for the rest of the season.

No, they were implemented. And the RPG died shortly thereafter. We never got past the first guest star: me.

The only reason I mentioned guest characters was because of the high demand for it throughout the first season. I personally wouldn't be opposed if they were kept out.

Created characters isn't a bad idea. It would give the game a bit more of a unique quality, allowing people to introduce new villains, vigilantes, cops, ect. I like the prospect of that.

I'm actually against guest stars, but I don't think people should complain when - to use an example from WSS? - Bruce meets Alan Scott and Dinah Laurel Lance at a party. Cameos - not full 'guest stars.'

Of course, most of this is me just trying to appease the masses - but I do agree now about the issue.

I don't see why small mentions would be a problem. As long as no one describes an incident involving Superman or Green Lantern flying around and catching meteors, or some such instance, then I think we're good. Nothing that alludes to superpowers - but name drops or city drops would be permitted.

Because I'm about to head out the door.

:csad: Damn...I wanted to know what you wanted to ask me yesterday.

I was going to ask you if you were still going to try and apply for Batman, as I wanted to throw my hat in the proverbial ring. But with Keyser expressing interest, I've lost all interest myself. I'm that excited for his take.

Ah. Yeah, I think it's unanimous that he'll be gettin' it if this goes up.

I only wish that I had that kind of security with Joker. :csad:

Well, there's always Harvey Dent. Or Gordon. Or...other characters. :ninja:

I say, damn Keyser. He's the only one we respect enough to back off from. :csad:

Quick question, how close are we treading to post-TDK continuity?

For instance: Harvey is already Two-Face. [blackout]Rachel[/blackout] is dead. So on, and so forth.

I'd personally say we should follow on from "The Dark Knight", and tie our continuity quite closely to the grounded world of the films. Harl made a valid point that there's a fine line between this and Ultimate DC v2.0, and I think tying this RPG closely to the films could help us establish this game as a quite seperate entity.

Of course, we can take a few liberties, such as...

Make it that Two-Face survived the fall, and is secretly locked up in Arkham somewhere rather than dead. And perhaps even Ra's al Ghul survived, thanks to the Lazarus Pit.

And new Gotham characters such as Robin or thus-far-unseen Batman villains could be reimagined for this world.

I still don't think Robin belongs here. Nightwing, on the other hand...
