I just hope that nobody that I like signs on to play in the film.

Jennifer Lawrence as the voice of Battlecat
Gal Gadot as Beast Man (motion cap)
Henry Cavill as Orko (no motion cap, no puppets, just the costume)

May as well let me direct this if you're considering McG. My rates are cheaper than his.

I'd rather never see another He-Man film again if it means it becomes some jokey disaster. I'm almost thinking this is as unfilmable a property as there is these days, for both production and market reasons.
I wouldn't claim it's impossible to make a good film based on the storyline.

Commercial success or failure, that's what's uncertain.

I always used to call him M.C. G, back during his MTV video days, as I thought that made much more sense. I was wrong.

Honestly, I have no idea why studios cannot get directors on these properties and end up having to constantly settle.

Well, then...

Isaac Hempstead Wright as Orko
Liam Aiken as Mekaneck
Nathan Gamble as Prince Adam
Kevin Zegers as 'uncredited villager'
LOL

This has to be the post of the year!!! :D

I just saw that McG directed the first episode of Shadowhunters. That was horrible. A pity that he got this.

But progress?

I won't lie, I'd be fine with Bay directing this. At least we'd get some practical effects.

I honestly can't really think of a worse director than McG for this, surely after Terminator Salvation studios know not to hire him for blockbusters? Evidently not.

Geez, with this kind of news, this movie will probably get made now. I feel bad for any MOTU fans.

These type of guys never drop out of this stuff.

Totally fine with this.

I unabashedly love the '87 film, purely for nostalgia. But it's bad. And there's zero reason to get upset over McG since he's a competent enough journeyman filmmaker (a studio guy, if you will) and this is He-Man we're talking about. Not some deep mythology that's been passed down to generations. It's a cartoon based on a toy line.

Like the "outrage" over the new Ninja Turtles movies, I'm amused and dumb-founded. This is made for 10 year olds. And we're 30. Let it go.

100% This.

Lord of the Rings, this ain't.

We just want it to be.

But you can say the same for Star Wars. Should that just be made as the lowest common denominator for 10 year olds? Those 10 year olds, like when we were all 10 years old, should STILL get a good movie. Look at all the fantasy and sci-fi films we got when we were 10 years old; TMNT, The Dark Crystal, The Never-Ending Story, The Witches, etc......just because He-Man was based on toys does not mean it's any less inferior. There is a ton of mythology and complex characters created from that toy line, so that argument is moot. Look at Transformers, we are already 4 movies in, and that was based on a toy line. Sure, those films mostly suck, but that's a writing and directing issue, the characters and mythology already exists aplenty.

If studios can crank out all these superhero movies that were also created to sell comics and toys, why should He-Man of all things be looked upon as any different. It's still within the very same genre.

There's nothing wrong with trying to elevate the material. It's defeatist to be dismissive of the potential of something that it could be even better. If I were a fan, I wouldn't want to settle for anything less despite the lacking of quality of the original stuff. There's some great ideas there. Make it better.

But Masters of the Universe isn't this "great idea"! Star Wars, for what it is, was created with love of many different genres. Masters of the Universe was created so they could sell toys pure and simple.

So the characters and their stories and their struggles and developments and the world building is all non-existent? Did the fans just make all that stuff up in their heads all these years? You don't make any sense. Was the new Star Wars not made to make money? Did everyone forget about Force Friday?! And that Star Wars products LITER toy stores all over the world?

It doesn't matter that He-Man was created to sell toys. Everything that is made is made to sell SOMETHING. Superheroes sell toys and comics. What is the difference? Almost every fantasy/science-fi property sells merchandise.

He-Man still has a STORY. It still has RICH CHARACTERS. It still has a interesting WORLD and MYTHOLOGY. Why do you think it's been SO HARD for this movie to get made in the first place? They could have just made another Battleship. It's because the source material is, in fact, rich and complex. If you removed all the toys nothing changes. Absolutely nothing.
