It's really not like Mad Max at all. What is the future tech of the MOTU world?
Similar to Mad max fury road I imagine but less apocalyptic and more fantasy
Imo they could make this a very simple story similar to that of 300 or Fury Road with also the over stylized painterly look of those films.
He-Man is a wandering barbarian on Eternia, a world dealing with the aftermath of a Great War that has devastated the civilizations that once reigned, but has left behind fantastical machinery and weapons. The events of the Great War opened a rift between dimensions which allows the evil warlord Skeletor to travel to Eternia, and he has now set his sights on the ancient Castle Grayskull, the 'fortress of mystery and power'.
Whoever attains control of Grayskull will gain the power to become Master of the Universe. To prevent Skeletor from achieving his goal, He-Man has been given special powers and weapons by The Sorceress and sets out to defend the castle from Skeletor.
He-Man is supported by several heroic allies, such as Man-At-Arms, the Eternian master of weapons, and Teela, the adopted daughter of Man-At-Arms. Skeletor manages to find one half of the Power Sword, a great weapon which is itself the key to Castle Grayskull. He-Man has been given the other half by The Sorceress, and must prevent Skeletor from linking the two halves to gain access to the castle.
Oh and it totally has to be called GRAYSKULL, such a bad ass name
It's really not like Mad Max at all.
It's like a medieval-ish fantasy world, but they have computer system, electricity, flying machines etc. Even in the old mini-comics, there was technology in the books that's pretty advanced. Grayskull had computer systems, Man-at-Arms had various vehicles and what not.
Ah yes. well no disrespect to those that enjoy that show or early comics but man that was painful to watch. I had to look at some Frazetta paintings to cleanse my soul.
What is the most gritty and raw MOTU comic series? Is there any? It seems so far that the 80s movie wasnt actually that bad compared to the comics and cartoons
Alcala actually also did art for Conan books, and I agree with you.I thought the art by Alfredo Alcala in the early mini comics was quite nice. I thought it had some of that same quality John Buscema's Conan art had.

The problem with just using the original mini comics is, that they're boring a lot of the more well known aspects didn't come from them. It's a standard Conan rip off with ohh this guy has this power
As much as I hate to say it because I hate the guy behind it, the amalgamation of all timelines that is the classics works best it takes from everything

I also liked his artwork. It was like classic sword and sorcery fantasy with some sci-fi elements mixed in.
So I'm clear, for this to be a great movie, I wouldn't want them to go strict mini-comics route either. The best route ideally would be something similar to the 2002 series which sort of streamlined the whole mythology into a new, more organic mythology.
The Justin Marks script however was just really disjointed and weird and not really a complete story.
Tvo you should know me from way back and over at the org. So you know we're on the same page with our views on this film and I agree 200x seems like the best way to go. I just think including some of the elements of the classics bios means it opens the scale a lot more to stuff the 200x series sadly didn't get a chance to see
Though of course we can keep the Mary Sues dead pool rip off to a minimum lol
