Have Any Of You Ever Read The Novel Great Expectations by Charles Dickens?

I really thought that it was going to be a great novel and I really did have "great expectations" for it seeing as it is a Dickens' novel, but I'm currently on Chapter 23 out of 59, reading it for my English class (we have to), and I am bored stiff of it. It has come to the point IMO where it makes absolutely no sense to me anymore. It is also a very VERY slow book, as it takes forever to get on with the actual story. And it's not just me, ALL of my classmates, my brother, my sister, and anyone else I've talked to that has read it (even my Algebra teacher, and I wouldn't expect that from her!) has said that it's a horrible book. It's definately NOT the 'masterpiece' that the review in the back of the book says it is.

So, I'm just wondering...have you ever read the book, and if so, did you like it?

I believe that children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be

I can't decide which author I loathe more: Charles Dickens or Jane Austen

no, but I saw the episode of South Park based on it.

Gawd, that's the only episode I always skip. Even Matt and Trey can't make this story any good.

Cliffs Notes- The only way to enjoy the "classics"

It's been a while since I've seen it - the episode may be funnier now, I just really hate Great Expectations. The Genesis Device part (which was the only funny part) had nothing to do with the real GE story and was the only thing that saved the eppy from complete lameness.

Indeed.

Yet, we get yelled at pretty good everytime that our English teacher finds out we are using cliff notes.

So, I take it that I am not alone in hating this book then?
