Greatest Trilogies of All Time

BEST:

1. LOTR
2. Star Wars
3. Indiana Jones
4. The Dark Knight
5. Back to the Future

WORST: (Some of these have more than 3 movies, but who gives a crap)

1. Twilight
2. Resident Evil
3. Species
4. POTC (I do like the first one, but even that wasn't as good as it could have been)
5. Rush Hour

Top 5, in no particular order:
LOTR.
Star Wars OT.
Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy.
The Man with no Name trilogy.
Edgar Wright's Cornetto trilogy.

Indiana Jones doesn't count since they are four of them now, and a fifth one is looking more likely.

I have one nobody has mentioned. Not necessarily a trilogy but Nightmare on Elm Streets 3, 4 and 5 all stay within the same continuity and tell an actual story through all three films where none of the other ones do. I've always had a very soft spot for those 3 films in particular. Not greatest of all time by any means but they do deserve at least one good mention

Actually, if we use that standard, then Star Trek II, III, and IV also count since they're part of a three movie mega arc.

Whether they want to acknowledge it or not, the simple fact is that it does exist. Therefore, it still counts.

IT DOESN'T EXIST! I'VE SAILED FARTHER THAN MOST HAVE DREAMED! AND I'VE NEVER SEEN IT! :woot:

I accept Crystal Skull because I love that movie, still though, the Indy trilogy is one of the best ever.

I think the Matrix trilogy deserves an honorable mention on the "worst" list. The first movie is so, SO good. But the sequels were so bloody disappointing. They almost ruin the first one for me.

Best:

The Dark Knight Trilogy

At the moment this is the only trilogy I felt got better with each movie. It's also the only one I find myself inclined to rewatch. The Hobbit will probably be joining it after TABA is released.

The original poster did say that the first three movies of an on going series of films still counts so....

If we're bending rules... Lin's Fast Trilogy (sans Tokyo) then could be high on my list.

Goodfellas
Casino
The Wolf of Wall Street

Counts for me. :D

1. Star Wars (original)
2. Toy Story
3. Back to the Future
4. The Dark Knight
5. Indiana Jones (minus Crystal Skull, obviously)

I'm limiting this to "true" Trilogies (which excludes any franchise that has more than 3 entries in it):
The Dark Knight (Nolan)
Spider-Man (Raimi)
The Mighty Ducks
Back to the Future
The Matrix
Toy Story
Jurassic Park
Lord of the Rings

Other than LOTR and probably Star Wars, I cannot think of a trilogy that's even. There are great movies in some trilogies but there's always one, at least, that's subpar.

Excluding franchises with more than 3 movies...

1. Star Wars
2. The Lord of the Rings
3. The Godfather
4. Dollar
5. Before
6. Toy Story
7. The Dark Knight
8. Back to the Future
9. Evil Dead

Star Wars has more than 3 movies, so you violated your own rules right out of the gate.

In terms of enjoyment they bring me:

Best:
POTC
Indiana Jones
Cornetto Trilogy (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, The Worlds End)
Back to the Future

If I didn't dislike ROTJ so much Star Wars OT would be on that list. Same with the Dark Knight Trilogy. TDKR just doesn't do it for me.

Worst:
They're not even worth mentioning.
