Scoop: Gossip Girl's Katie Cassidy Lands Female Lead in The CW's Green Arrow Pilot

Katie Cassidy is making her way back to The CW with a starring role in the network’s Green Arrow pilot, Arrow.

The alumna of Supernatural, Melrose Place and Gossip Girl has been cast as Dinah “Laurel” Lance, a young attorney with the City Necessary Resources Initiative who shares a romantic past with Green Arrow’s alter ego, Oliver Queen (played by Stephen Amell).

The Arrow pilot is being exec-produced and penned by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg, and directed by David Nutter (Dark Angel, Smallville).

The cast also includes Once & Again‘s Susanna Thompson as Oliver’s mom and Dexter‘s David Ramsey as an ex-military/special forces type now working in private security for Oliver.

This would be, what? The third live action Black Canary? There was Birds of Prey, Smallville, and now this.

She's tied with Batgirl (2 TV series, 1 movie), Captain America (TV movies, 2 separate movie franchises), and Punisher (3 movies), but she's still behind the Hulk (TV series, 2 separate movies, Avengers movie) and Spider-Man (2 separate TV series, 2 separate movie franchises) in addition to Superman and Batman.

Saw the news earlier of katie being cast as dinah. Loved her in spn and a little in her ther stuff. Can't wait to see how she works off with amell as ollie. I do hope if the lasts for a bit she will become black canery.

I don't see it wrong for her not to be a hero right off the bat. I rather see her charact develop a bit first. Learn she has meta powers down the road. And since if the breakdown stays she is a lawyer. She might want to take justice into her own hands. Which is how she develops black canery alter ego. That is how I do it.

Im hoping this show is a success because lord knows Katie Cassidy has a terrible record with shows even though she is always the best character in them and she needs a hit.
