Green Arrow series in the works at The CW

Again, in fairness, the Aquaman pilot was commissioned to go to series, but was scrapped after the merger between The WB and UPN. Green Lantern and Wonder Woman were missteps, admittedly, and not doing anything with Flash outside of a barely in production movie is criminal. However, Marvel is not a better studio, Marvel Studios rely solely on their heroes, and thus cannot afford to do badly WB does not and can.

I do hope WB can get another few heroes off the ground, and release the Wonder Woman pilot.

Did they even try to test it with audiences???

I hear ya....But even with all it's critics, Smallville was thstory of Superman. The anticipation of when his new powers would emerge etc....etc....kept people tuned in. Brainiac....Luthor ....all of that!

Whatcha got with GA?? Really.......And even non-fans know Superman or his alter-ego.

Yeah....they won't have to spend as much money on Special EFX. But what Smallville spent it's money on was the thing that kept folks coming back to watch....Namely, those expensive Special EFX. Nobody would have watched Smallville if Clark didn't lift something or run fast....we ain't watchin' him just pine away for Lana, do his chores and get advice from Pa. LOL

So Green Arrow's humanity and lack of name recognition, might be his achilles heel.
No offense meant to you but you don't seem to like heroes without superpowers all that much. Green Arrow has had fantastic stories over the decades and on his own is already a great, flawed character. I mean here's a character who doesn't even really have a rogues gallery and has managed to not only sustain his own title but remain relevant and have great stories held together by his interpersonal relationships alone. I know a lot of people still look at heroes like "What can he do? Can he shoot laser beams out of his eyes? My hero can lift a whole planet by himself." but Green Arrow is definitely one of those characters with more story potential than most heroes out there.

If you don't believe me just read up on Judd Winick's run on his book starting with Kevin Smith. A great series that got me into the character. There's only so far powers and villains of the week can take you. Green Arrow is just compelling stuff. But then again I'm a fanboy so of course I'm going to be more interested in GA than Aquaman and Shazam.

Starts and restarts.....beyond that 10 year span. He has more misses that hits. Regardless of the fact that he's been around since the 40's (so has the Spectre and Hawkman), he's still is having a ruff time connecting on a wider scale. Even with comic fans, it seems.

No... they just renumbered/retitled, there was hardly ever a gap. He's only ever been cancelled once and that happened to be when Ollie wasn't even the Green Arrow.

I love Green Arrow and I want to see a really good live-action DC tv property but I don't think I can get excited for this while knowing Guggenheim and Berlanti are at the helm.

You know, Shazam, just because you don't happen to like Green Arrow, that's no reason for you to dismiss his fans, the quality of some of his comics, or the potential for this show to appeal to wider audiences. I mean, he's basically an urban Robin Hood, and audiences eat up Robin Hood (that is, when the story is actually Robin Hood-like, and not a story about England's war with France that happens to star a soldier named Robin).

I don't think he dislikes Green Arrow, I think he just dislikes not having things to complain about.

No, WB were just very keen to pick it up, and even after the merger the CW seemed quite eager to have it, but Dawn Ostroff passed. It actually wasn't half bad:

Clock King has been mentioned here. Would be overly great if he was the arch nemesis in this series. (atleast first season)

You could say that about any hero though. Only batman, spider-man, and superman (to some extent) have recognizable villains.

With your logic who would want to watch a show based on Shazam, nobody really knows or cares who he is. Just because he has super powers doesn't mean someone will want to watch.

Out of all the DC character GA is the right one for tv. He is a well known dc comics character for fans of comics and not an obscure D-lister. You can do justice to the character without shortchanging it, something that could not happen with the flash or wonder woman.

Also his humanity makes him relatable, you see that as a downside. I see that as a positive. Why do you think batman and iron man or so popular on film, because there is that chance that you could be them (even though its not likely). That is something that green arrow has. Anyone could become his character and if the series is well done I think it could really connect. Throw in some gadgets and a vehicle and he's a cross between batman and james bond on tv.

just cause those guys have had a few blunders, they also done some good work. So really we should wait and see what the show turns out and see some footage so we can judge the show better.

I am super-excited for this show if it ever gets picked up.

I wonder if Ollie will actually shoot people with sharp arrows rather than use trick arrows that shoot out knocking gas ....

I'd prefer knockout arrows. Just hard, blunt ends like in Young Justice.

^Blunt knockout arrows would be cool too. I recently bought one of those toy z-curve bows. They come with a blunt end foam tip arrows and i thought to myself that a non-foam version of these would be a good substitute for the boxing glove arrow:

I guess it depends how violent they want the show to be. If he is using sharp tipped arrows, the bad guys will be in a lot of pain. Also depends what action they make him engage in. Since he is doing a lot of free running training I could see more that combined with hand to hand combat. Then trick arrows for stealthy missions.

^Free running !!!! I didn't think about the free running. I am really hoping they use practical stunts for that. I hated the CGI backflipping Huntress in Birds of Prey.

I expect to see arrows to the thigh and hand and such. That's kind of his thing. Especially when he wants to interrogate someone.

I don't see why they wouldn't do some trick arrows when needed. Like if he was to go up against that brick guy or vertigo he would need some special arrows to attack them. As for regular crooks/corupt political folks he probably will shoot them in away it traps them and doesn't hurt them.

Brick as a cocaine drug lord. ''Bricks'' of cocaine and etc.

Count Vertigo as a diplomat from a Eastern Oriental country that secretly intents to sabotage the United States of America, and is armed with a device that affects the inner ear, throwing his enemies off balance.

Constantine Drakon as a professional assassin. Maybe working for Count Vertigo.

Onomatopeia as a hitman hired by Brick to kill Green Arrow.

Etc, etc.
I like this a lot. Onomatopoeia can be creepy as hell if handled correctly. And Drakon could give Ollie a good fight.

I expect to see a lot of collars and sleeves stuck against the wall.

That's pretty likely. I've always found that cool anyway. That takes some crazy good aim.

They put it on Itunes & it was widely praised

GOOD GRIEF....DON'T TELL ME THAT!!! "SIGH"

And it didn't see the light of day!! Yet here comes GREEN ARROW!!

Errrr....."Arrow" NOT Green Arrow!

He is green arrow, and I am sure we will hear folks call him that, along with just arrow from time to time.

Oh I do like heroes with no powers. But outside of BATMAN or now CAPT AMERICA they just don't do well in TV.
