I'm not saying it ripped off, but there are definite similarities (some just because of the comics).

Both are billionaires

Both have a stint overseas with some shady characters and come back with the idea of being a hero.

Both blow up the overseas shady characters' base

Both come back to America after being presumed dead

Both kneeled next to and watched somone close to them die from gunshot wounds (Yusuf in Iron Man, Martha and Thomas Wayne in BB)

Both design their own suits with their vast resources.

Both had an older mentor turn on them and be a villain

Both of them had love interests that find out who they are

niiiiice

That's stretching it quite a bit. That reminds me of the aruments people made back durring the first Spider-man movie that it was a rip off of Batman because there were parade ballons, and the end credit song sounded like "Kiss from a Rose".

Except Iron Man did it first in the comics, all except Stane being a mentor.

Maybe Nolan picked up a few Iron Man books before making Begins.

Nice side debate...let's get back on topic, folks.

The only thing Iron Man mimicked was being a good movie.

Iron Man is used the same plot formula as Batman Begins, but executed it better.

The only thing Iron Man did was try to be a better origin film than BB, which it came far from, then Iron Man 2 tried the same with TDK. We know how it turned out on both accounts.

this film will be the measure of how much critics matter

It was a joke. Just like the post about Iron Man ripping off Batman.

But back on topic, I sure hope people ignore the reviews and make this a success.

It's already fighting an uphill battle, which is unfair when you think about it.

Well, we'll talk tomorrow when we've both seen it and go from there.

i think it'll do $65 million opening weekend (a bit more than i originally predicted).

Well, that is your right. Doesn't make much sense to me, but it is your right. Sean Bean's awesomeness aside.

goldeneye is more classic bond with a more modern twist. casino royale is jason bourne with a bond twist.

also, brosnan was a better 007, imo.

Exactly, Iron Man didn't debut until 1963, Batman 1939, comment was just a tad ridiculous, LOL.

actually it's common knowledge that batman origins have been in the dark and never tied down/fleshed out at all until 2008.
just saying.

I hope so, I hope it competes with thor that would cause a stir and would put the send the message to WB that DC properties are big enough to withstand a firing squad. But they need to get their act together.
all it needs is to open over 60.

Brosnan was better. but Fassbender will be the greatest ever.
I hope campbell comes back for him.

I don't have any read on this at all. I don't discount it doing 60'ish or better, because of the marketing, and the 12 year olds this is directed at are going to come regardless.

I think the bad reviews will hurt this film in the 25 and older crowd, who have come acustom to better quality superhero flicks.

I don't know what Fantastic Four would be adjusted for inflation, but I think that's probably the high water mark (looking at ticket sales not numbers and 3D boost, etc.)

Thing is...if the strength of its possible success hinges on its appeal to 12-yr-olds...wouldn't it stand to reason that that 12-yr-old appeal will dictate the sequel if it gets one? Wouldn't they be better off stopping and starting up again some other time with a broader/more adult appeal in a better film? I mean...it's not like they tried to infuse elements of Cujo into Beethoven's 2nd. :oldrazz::woot:

Well that's true and that's exactly what happened with Fantastic Four, where ROTSS was PG and directly aimed at the kiddos, and we all know how that turned out.

Well anyway you put it this is dissapointing. This just should have been better. Yes I haven't seen the film yet, but if a film can't at least get 60% on RT, or hell even 50%.

This pretty much sucks.

Man, I hope it's closer to $60m, here's a link from Variety that was posted just a few hours ago - they're thinking $55 - $60m but it could be higher due to awareness and 3D.

Given the $300m it took to make this movie, the opening weekend almost doesn't matter that much, especially if the film sinks like a huge bolder in a lake after it's first weekend.
