Green Lantern Box Office Prediction Thread

Okay, it might be around 50% - They've released around 20 films, and 10 of them have been failures, and you can argue that another 3 were bad, but they made some money. DCU needs to be better than that, but it looks like GL is already facing an uphill battle.

Marvel themselves have only made 5 movies. I'd say none of their movies are truly bad. Obviously haven't seen Cap yet though.

Well, Marvel is the comic book publisher, and their characters have made over 20 movies, so that's what I'm going by, not the studio. I will say that Marvel is making great films underneath their own umbrella.

I'm honestly wondering if this film will beat out Super 8 and First Class this weekend...if the reviews are anything to go by.

I think it'll easily beat those film this week.

I question if it'll drop below them in the coming weeks though.

Of course it will. It's The Green Lantern, and it's opening weekend. Doesn't really matter if it's the worst movie in the entire world, people will go see it.

I'm sure it will please fans regardless of what mainstream movie critics say.

What's funny is Jonah Hex still made more domestically than Punisher War Zone and Catwoman almost doubled Elektra's box office.

Bottom line is it doesn't matter if it's DC or Marvel, we need all these films to be successful in order to get more of them, the general audience could care less or doesn't even know the distinction between Marvel and DC.

Marvel has only made 5 movies, Iron Man 1&2, The Incredible Hulk, Thor and the upcoming Captain America. The other movies that you've mentioned were made by other studios with Marvel having little to no control over them.

So, so far their success rate is about 95-99%

My Box Office prediction,

Opening weekend 30-45M
Total Domestic gross 85-105M

Sad, but I fear true.

Sorry, those count, those are Marvel properties.

I guess we won't count any of the DC movies since Warner Bros. distributed them.....

I'm going to change my original prediction a little bit:

42 million opening weekend.

130 million domestic

135 million overseas

265 million worldwide

Oh well at least Marvel came through this year with Thor and X:FC. Here's hoping to an even better Cap.

DC really, really needs TDKR and Man of Steel to be successful.

TDKR will make WB money even if the film is Bale and Hardy arguing over brunch for 75 minutes

So far Cap hasn't skipped a beat in marketing (as far as I know.)
Cap is still looking good. :yay:

I still say this film gets to at least 390 million. If thats enough for a sequel is anyone's guess.

WB seems to be pouring an endless amount of cash into TDKR and Man of Steel, to ensure that both are huge hits.
IMO, anything less than 500mil worldwide is unacceptable for those two.

If only WB had put the same effort into GL.....:csad:

They should also have told the director to keep his mouth shut; it is not smart for the director an unreleased potential blockbuster, aiming for a franchise, to publicly state that he will not be involved in a sequel before the release of the movie; it gives the impression he is attempting to distance himself from the film, even if that was not his intention. (I am aware he just doesn't do sequels.)

That marketing to me and lack of early reviews will lead it to a better than it should get opening weekend. It will have a really bad drop next weekend though.

What concerns me is that XFC was tracking at 70 million with good reviews, and ended up at 55M.

GL is tracking at 60M with bad reviews, so what's it going to make?

I think the reviews are going to turn alot of folks away. I know everyone here is going to see it, but what about the non-fan demographic?

The legend of Zoro says hi, also WB poured enough cash into the film. If a film sucks it sucks doesnt matter how much money is poured into it.

Does the non fan demographic even read reviews? I mean really, despite reviews if the movie looks good they will see it.

Dude, it is common sense that the general audience basically doesn't give a damn about reviews on movies from movie critics. :oldrazz:

First Class got alot of good reviews but the general audience wasn't in a rush to go see it because of all of the good reviews from the movie critics. Pirates 4 got alot of bad reviews from the movie critics but many people didn't give a damn about those bad reviews.

The real kicker is word of mouth, if its as pants as all the reviews are suggesting this film will burn out in no time.
