Green Lantern reboot ideas.

I thought Reynolds was good with what he was given, I just wish they would have gotten all the corporate executives out of the way and let them film the 2nd draft of the script the way it was, mostly in outer space (with a few adjustments) instead of making like Iron Man.

Also, I didn't mind the way the suit were depicted, I would've gone the same route, BUT I would have had Reynolds in a slightly padded muscle suit (like MOS) and then added the CGI! like a cross with what we got and GL First Flight!

... The film should just go straight into the mythology of the various lantern corps. Sinestro should start off as a Yellow Lantern, they can do a brief flashback to when he turned bad, but that's it. Hector Hammond/Parallax was a nowhere villain.

For the life of me I will never understand why people pass off opinions like they're facts. Basically everything on this site that isn't from a designated news story is pure opinion. I think some people don't know the definitions.

Yea is it really necessary to write "IMO" after every opinion?

Obviously it's my opinion that white gloves are lame. They ****ing are.

He's just wishing to clarify it more as an opinion than a fact

New Hal for reboot?

I've said for years that white gloves would look cool in a "dress uniform" context.

That would be crazy cool. A great way to shout out to fans, without trying to pass off these random white gloves as something 'cool' or 'natural' just because they've been there for a while. Do you know how I know they're bad? We can put them on any other superhero: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, and they look out of place and dumb, but somehow on Hal it's 'cool?' No, it's just what we're used to. You know who actually looks good with white gloves? Shazam. Why? Is it because he has white in his costume? Is it because it goes thematically with a young boy of pure actions? Who knows? How could we possibly decipher such things.

Overall though? Say no to the butler gloves. First Flight didn't have them, and for good reason. They weren't missed.

Well said. Hal looks like a really weird traffic cop, not somebody to be taken seriously.

Traffic cops aren't meant to be taken seriously?

Lol. Safety is very important. Traffic Cops should be taken seriously. Hal shouldn't. Maybe I should have said "wannabe traffic cop". Regardless, the white gloves Hal wears do not look cool. His 1st flight costume(which is quite similar to John's) looks faaar better than his normal getup. They were right not to use Hal's costume in live action. They just chose a poor alternative

Using first flight as an example falls short because Hal's had them before first class and after it. The appearances of Hal with them far outnumber the ones without them. They are part of his iconic green lantern look and he's almost never been without them. Hell out of all his appearances, I can only think of two appearances he's been without them; the GL animated movies and the movie. He's been with them since the very beginning and fans love it. Saying they weren't missed is false:o.

Really, I think they could pull off a direct sequel, if only just to keep Mark Strong as Sinestro. They just need to differentiate enough from the original to get people to give it another chance. Make it about Jon Stewart, spend 90% of the film off of Earth, and use cloth costumes. It could work.

To be honest I wish they would just ditch the established characters and go with an asian female for GL.
But thats just me wanting more ladies on the DC A team.

I used the example to show that the most acclaimed adaptation didn't have them. So how does my example fall short?

And how do you feel about my argument that they're ugly/lame because they're ugly/lame on every other superhero. The only reason to have the white gloves is because they've been there a long time, and thus, fans love them. That means fans will like anything put in front of them often enough because the white gloves are suuper lame.

That would be AWESOME!!!!

Most acclaimed adaption??? lol. First flight and emerald guardians are cool, but they are just of many other appearances.

You sound like you just hate the fact that other people like something you think is ugly/lame. The white gloves being lame is an opinion of yours and is far from the consensus among GL fans; especially Hal ones. People like the white gloves and would absolute love them being adapted, if possible. DEAL. WITH. IT.

I'm a big Hal Jordan fan, but I don't think the gloves are necessary. They're classic/iconic, but the suit looks fine without them.

Also, I'm definitely not a fan of a new GL being created for the sake of diversity... That's a horrible idea. DC shouldn't be so concerned with diversity that they completely change the identity of a major character to appease people that want more diversity. If WB is concerned with diversity in their DC films, there are plenty of diverse preexisting Earth based GL's to choose from.

That suggestion is giving me Patience Philips flashbacks.

Well it is just that the GL powers are easy to transfer and as you said there are already a lot of GLs so I don't really see it as a change of identity to any character.
For me its just that the strongest point of the GLs is that pretty much anybody can be one. So I thought: why not take it to another level? And you not only add diversity you also make a strong play on the asian movie market.

Well if I can't have it I like some John Stewart instead ;)

Rebooting Green Lantern
1.Make Coast City a Space city:I have often heard people whine about the earth scenes in GL movie but can you really blame them.Fact is tht Gls civilian life is earth based and important members of his civilian life like his love interest, best friend are earth based. You cant simply brush them aside as they are an important part of Gls life and neglecting them is taking away the human out of GL.As long as Green lanterns civilian life is based on earth there should be earth scenes.

Solution?Move Hls civilian life away from Earth.

Heres how Id do it .Id have Coast city be a human city in Space. That permanently eliminates any need for earth scenes and allows Green lanterns role as a space cop and Coast city hero intersect perfectly-his coast city adventures and space adventures will blend together as being one and the same and there'd be no need to neglect his human life

Obviously Hals job as a Test-pilot would have to change.I say make him a Space-Racer who works for Ferris Space racing company.

2.Western Flavor:Even though many call GL a space cop,a space ranger is a more apt description of who he is.The western genre has many ranger heroes-so I think GL cld do with some inpiration from westerns.

Make Sector 2814 a lawless town with outlaws running around the place.GL is the new sherriff in town to bring this outlaws to justice.

3.Powers:Constructs are lame.There I said it.Limit Gls powers to energy,freezing beams,forcefields,flight.

So in short heres my premise.
Deep in sector 2814,is a floating space city known as Engine city.It was created by Hank henshaw as a home for humans in space. This city has frequent contact with the various alien life in neighbouringplanets.

Unfortunately sector 2814 is a lawless region,Galactic outlaws rum amok here.Engine city and other Alien cities suffer b/c of this.

Oa is currently wrapped in a deep war .Only one Lantern is able to come to sector 2814 help-The Legendary Abin sur. Unfortunately he gets killed just as he arrives in the sector leading him to choose a new Lantern.

That Lantern is Hal Jordan.A Reckless,Brave,Noble Space racer from Engine city. Its is now his job to help all the cities in Sector 2814 human or otherwise-until reinforcements form OA can save the sector

Wow, that's very forward thinking.

1. I wouldn't make Coast City in space, but perhaps have them being a space industry pioneering city, with Ferris Air involved in private spaceflight and there being a 'space city' in the form of a space station that they actually operate from. (Because, honestly, calling a space station 'coast city' is pretty absurd). Hal would call that home, that'd be his 'town'. Keep him as a test pilot, but, for spacecraft. Spae races imply the technology is for entertainment and that's about 50-100 years from where we are now at best.

2. Love the western flavor.

3. Constructs can be handled better. They're awesome when done well. They just are often thrown in to say he has them rather than thought out for cool effects, or balanced to show why he doesn't just construct away every problem.

Cool premise.

Thanks for the response
1.Yeah.Good point.Make Hal based in a space station-A big one though that can fully stand as Hals"city".Bye-Bye Earth scenes.Hal as a test pilot would still work for a space station.I just like Space races :oldrazz:

2.Thanks
3.To date I have never seen Constructs as cool. They always look like fake lego thingys. The movie only confirmed my stance on them.
