Fer Serious!
That pic has me excited...still does seem like the team is missing something for a good blend.
even like mantis or something.
You got to leave something for the sequels.Yeah, the team does seem a bit shorthanded. The thing is that Groot doesn't really count as a character. All he says is "I am Groot", so it's not as if he eats up a lot of time for characterization. Likewise, Rocket Raccoon is comic relief. He's deadpan comic relief, but comic relief just the same. So he's another who doesn't need as much screentime focused on him. That leaves Starlord, Drax, and Gamora. While they don't have to have six characters to focus on like in Avengers, they can certainly fit one or two more characters in there. My preference would be for Adam Warlock at the very least. IMO he's a must. Mantis would be a nice addition, as well, or Moondragon. They definitely have room for one or two more characters, though.

It is interesting that Marvel is willing to give a comic book space opera a try; perhaps Disney wants some of the bucks that "STAR TREK" got. The concept art is nice but I do agree that the cast is missing something. Star-Lord, Drax, Gamora, Groot, and Rocket are fine, but Groot is basically the "Chewbacca" with Rocket the comic relief and Star-Lord the Kirk/Mal of the team. My first suggestion would be Moondragon, since she's Drax's daughter so you'd have that tense relationship to play off. Maybe they'd balk at having a bald woman - which did the first "STAR TREK" film in the 70's no favors - but designs could always be changed. Mantis would also be fine; her empathy with plants could allow her to communicate better with Groot or something.
I wouldn't mind Nova but if he were there I'd bet they'd use Jeph Loeb's lame new dude, so in a way I am glad he's not there.
Still, this is a risky film. It is a franchise nobody has ever heard of outside the main comic circles with characters few have heard of beyond hardcover ULTIMATE MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 3 tournaments. And this is after the spectacular flop of the better known "GREEN LANTERN" over at the distinguished competition. If they sink $150 million into it and don't get much profit, what will that mean for the Studio? Would they freak out?
At the very least, it shows Marvel Studios is willing to take some risks, akin to when someone at Warner Brothers signed off on a Jonah Hex film instead of a Wonder Woman film.
I have a feeling Groot might well come away from the films a fan favourite. Wouldn't be so quick to dismiss him.
