Iit seems like Marvel is unmothballing all these ideas from the 1970s ( even though these guys first appeared in 1969, its close enough & they were never really used much until the 1970s)... I say its time for a new Guardians of the Galaxy book!

Hell yeah. I own most of the late 80s/early 90s series. Good stuff.

Not likely to happen with the current regime's opinions on cosmic stuff. As it is, literally everything with cosmic elements that Marvel is publishing is being lumped together for Annihilation, which doesn't really lend itself to stuff taking place 1,000 years down the line in a possible future. I'd really love to see a new Guardians of the Galaxy, though. I miss Vance and Yondu and all.

Such a shame. I love the street level heroes, but I love the likes of Thor and Silver Surfer just as much. And I especially love Gaurdians of the Galaxy. :(

Guardians was one of my favorite books from tehe early 90's. I also have the complete collection, and would love for them to start it up again.

Thor is on the comeback trail.
Yeah, but he'll probably be watered down to "fit in" with the current Marvel universe. It's already happening, in fact, with his working for SHIELD. Why do you think so many people are scratching their heads over that? It's not Thor's bag.

I liked the origional idea that Neil Gaiman and JMS came up with for Thor's return. Peices of Asgard fall to Earth, and the various gods are reincarnated in the humans who pick them up and weild them. It sort of looks like that's what they're doing in Civil War, but not as good. :(

I really, really don't like that idea. A kid with a hammer is not Thor. Eric Masterson, Beta Ray Bill, Tarene, Dargo K'tor, and Red Norvell prove that.

One variant on Thor that I wouldn't mind, however, is if Magni somehow came back in time and took over Thor's job as protector of Earth. He was a good character.

Same here. I loved the GoG.

which issue is this in?

No issue, it was just an idea that Gaiman and JMS came up with.

So this idea, is it set in stone.... Thor is just going to be some dude that picks up the hammer? Maybe they could have it be a dudette! ( kinda like the Earth X thing!)

It's not set in stone as far as I know. They were going to make a comic out of it with Millar writing, but that fell apart because Millar wanted to do other stuff. No one knows what Thor's deal is now, but if it turns out he's just some guy who picked up the hammer, I guarantee I won't be buying his comic whenever it starts up again.

I would buy it, depending on the writer.

They are a great classic team.

Well, we have no way of knowing how the story would have turned out, since they never actually made it. It could have ended with Thor literally being reincarnated in human form. Besides, the way it was described, it sounded like Thor would be one of the last ones to come back.
