latino review is reporting that Marvel's 2014 release along with Captain America 2 is Guardians of the Galaxy.

That's the site that just said Black Panther was going to be the other Marvel film of 2014, and the poster of the Blach Panther news was the same one that has been releasing news of Iron Man 3, so i think that possibility is more possible

Okay, I feel good about this.

That's pretty sweet. I hope it translates as well to the screen as the Avengers concept art did.

While I'm glad this is happening I can't help but to feel that they're hitting up the wrong cosmic characters. I like the Guardians but they got old after a while. I'd much rather see a Nova movie. Pretty much do an Annihilation type of story but focus more on Nova and if it does well branch the Guardians out of that. Basically just take the formula of the recent Cosmic run. I think that'd work really well insteady of busting Guardians out of the gate.

But we'll see how it goes.

I don't think his hand is actually missing. It's just terrible perspective.

Caught that did you? Yeah, I noticed that as soon as I posted so I edited it out. I didn't realize someone saw. My bad.

That pic has me excited...still does seem like the team is missing something for a good blend.

even like mantis or something.

Yeah, the team does seem a bit shorthanded. The thing is that Groot doesn't really count as a character. All he says is "I am Groot", so it's not as if he eats up a lot of time for characterization. Likewise, Rocket Raccoon is comic relief. He's deadpan comic relief, but comic relief just the same. So he's another who doesn't need as much screentime focused on him. That leaves Starlord, Drax, and Gamora. While they don't have to have six characters to focus on like in Avengers, they can certainly fit one or two more characters in there. My preference would be for Adam Warlock at the very least. IMO he's a must. Mantis would be a nice addition, as well, or Moondragon. They definitely have room for one or two more characters, though.

You got to leave something for the sequels.

There's plenty to leave for sequels while still fleshing the team out a bit more in the first movie. They could use any number of these characters:

Adam Warlock
Mantis
Phyla-Vell
Moondragon
Quasar
Bug
Cosmo
Jack Flag
Captain Universe
Nova
Darkhawk

Using one or two of them for the first film would leave plenty more for sequels.

It is interesting that Marvel is willing to give a comic book space opera a try; perhaps Disney wants some of the bucks that "STAR TREK" got. The concept art is nice but I do agree that the cast is missing something. Star-Lord, Drax, Gamora, Groot, and Rocket are fine, but Groot is basically the "Chewbacca" with Rocket the comic relief and Star-Lord the Kirk/Mal of the team. My first suggestion would be Moondragon, since she's Drax's daughter so you'd have that tense relationship to play off. Maybe they'd balk at having a bald woman - which did the first "STAR TREK" film in the 70's no favors - but designs could always be changed. Mantis would also be fine; her empathy with plants could allow her to communicate better with Groot or something.

I wouldn't mind Nova but if he were there I'd bet they'd use Jeph Loeb's lame new dude, so in a way I am glad he's not there.

Still, this is a risky film. It is a franchise nobody has ever heard of outside the main comic circles with characters few have heard of beyond hardcover ULTIMATE MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 3 tournaments. And this is after the spectacular flop of the better known "GREEN LANTERN" over at the distinguished competition. If they sink $150 million into it and don't get much profit, what will that mean for the Studio? Would they freak out?

At the very least, it shows Marvel Studios is willing to take some risks, akin to when someone at Warner Brothers signed off on a Jonah Hex film instead of a Wonder Woman film.

I have a feeling Groot might well come away from the films a fan favourite. Wouldn't be so quick to dismiss him.

Pretty stoked about this. I was hoping for Nova to be involved in this, but hopefully that comes later. I wonder who they'll cast as Peter?

I wish they'd have done an Annihilation film staring Nova. Have Drax training him to be more hardcore. Tie-in Gamora and Starlord like in the actual series. If Annihilus is a rights issue with Fantastic Four then combine a bit of Conquest and make it Ultron. Or just go off of Avengers and have the same plot but with Thanos and the Chi'tarri. That'd definately bring in the Avengers crowd.

Groot can kick ass, even if he only says one line. Hell, in the Avengers, the Hulk only said 2 words. I'd love to see Groot just one time yell "I AM GROOOOOT" while smashing the hell out of some evil aliens.

The main problem with him is that I think people would immediately think they ripped him off from the Ents in LOTR.

I don't expect this to be the final team. I expect at least 1 or 2 more members to be added as we read more about the making of this film. But even so, I'm fine with this and look forward to how this comes about.

Never thought we'd see a Guardians movie, so I'm not upset at all about a limited team to start with. Probably best not to bloat the team too much being the first film. The Avengers had the luxury of introducing all of its main characters in previous films, so 90% of the people going in knew what to expect when watching it. Here they'll need to establish all the characters, so you don't want to huge a team to prevent them from really developing some characters.

Personally, I think the reason Adam and Nova were left out is to prevent a trio of competing protagonists.

I dont think Marvel studios Gives a *&%# if they flop, they are just expanding the MCU.

As far as "Green Lantern" Flopping it was heavily over promoted the GA just didnt care for the movie. Marvel Studios has a hell of a track record the GA will see "From the studio that brought you The Avengers" that will bring in ppl.

The art is just beautiful, this may sound weird lol but i always go by if the look and art is tattoo worthy AND this is very tattoo worthy.

I'm not saying he wouldn't be a favorite. After all, Chewbacca is a favorite, too. I'm just saying that, in terms of time given over to characterization for everyone, he doesn't really require any. He just does his thing and says "I am Groot." He wouldn't cut into the development of Star-Lord, Gamora, or Drax anymore than Chewbacca cut into the story time for Luke, Han, or Leia. So in that sense, while the team stands at five members, it's really 3-4, so they have plenty of screentime to spare for another character or two.
