Guardians of the Galaxy

There is a disappointing lack of Groot in that pic.

I wanted to not like or buy Avengers Assembled but it's been surprisingly good so far.

Bendis did say that the title roles into what he's doing next so it sounds to me like Bendis just might be tackling Cosmic Marvel for the foreseeable future. I'm cool with that. DnA was great but were getting a bit stale. Bendis has reached that point on the Avengers franchise. I'm curious how he does on a big Cosmic scale, which he hasn't done before. The closest that I can think of was Secret Invasion (somewhat) and the second arc of Avengers with Hood and the Infinity Gems, which was good. We'll see how it goes.

I'm just hoping to see more Nova and Darkhawk love. I was really into the Fraternity of the Raptors story that DnA began.

It would be a smart move on marvel's part to put some BIG guns on the marvel cosmic front...

When you look at the commercial success of DC's cosmic books , and where those books were 10 years ago, marvel has been sleeping at the wheel when it comes to there cosmic line. They let DC get an edge, and marvel's cosmic world was always superior IMO.

I know people lay of the DnA love thick, but it was really Giffen who breathed new life into Marvel Cosmic, and marvel let him walk. DnA did there best to tread water, but by the time they brought their A game with Thanos Imperitive, i think people were a bit lost.

I continued to support NOVA through the book, but there was a clear drop in quality there.

I was a big fan of the Darkhawk stuff too, more the character being used than anything...his redesign was very well done.

I think I could get into GoTG just for Bug alone...

:yay:

DnA's A-game was everything between Annihilation: Conquest and The Thanos Imperative, as far as I'm concerned. Giffen was more responsible for Annihilation and The Thanos Imperative was where everything petered out.

Excited for the Guardians coming back but I'll pass if Bendis is handling cosmic. Cosmic and high concept has never been his strong suit. It always comes off as mundane and plain in his Avengers.
Brevoort mentions that they're going to be trying to do more with cosmic stuff in the future, so maybe that's a good sign for a possible GotG series again? I hope. A new Nova Corps series would be pretty awesome while we're at it.

Remender just left Venom. I would love it if he got to do Guardians. Also, Hickman would fit very well on a cosmic book.

Hickman would probably tell us all about how the Guardians of the Galaxy existed as a concept from way back in the Big Bang and Galactus used to be a member. I'm not a fan of his weird revisionist tendencies.

I was a big fan of Imperative, it's an extremely underrated event.

I thought some of the last few Nova arcs were weak. And i didnt really love how DnA were kinda regressing Rich into a "do gooder, blue blazes peter parker archetype"..i know some big Nova fans don't agree with me, but I felt Rich's character should have been taken in a bit of a different direction post Annihilation.

I never saw a downgrade in quality in GOTG, but the art on the book got a bit erratic and i didnt care for some of the fill-ins...

War/Realm of Kings just never delivered the moments it was setting up, i didnt really like it aside from the use of a lot of characters I dug.

But as I said, the "debriefing panels" in GOTG that sorta broke the 4th wall were very Bendis-y and kinda annoyed me. I still liked the book.

Yeah, I would read the hell out of that. I would rather see Hickman, if he ever had time, writing and drawing a Silver Surfer mini. Of course, if I was a betting man I would say he's not going to be doing cosmic and taking over the Avengers.

I liked the concept of The Thanos Imperative, but the execution was sorely lacking. I was so bored of that event by the last couple issues of the main mini-series.

I loved Rich's character evolution. I viewed it more as him returning to his roots than a significant personality change. He hardened himself in the Annihilation War because he had to. Once that was dealt with, he could return to being the kind of hero he wanted. Note that he still was willing to kill if necessary, so it's not like he was a total boy scout. Plus, the inclusion of the Nova Corps toward the end of his series allowed him to show his leadership skills again. I enjoyed DnA's series with him from beginning to end, although I do think GotG edged it out in overall quality a bit.

Personally, I think DnA started average with Annihilation Conquest, peaked with War of Kings, and then stalled during Realm of Kings. Thanos Imperative was good but forgetable save Nova and Starlord's final sacrefice.

The Nova book I think was constistently good but faultered during Realm of Kings.

Guardians of the Galaxy I always felt was overrated. I loved the characters but the stories just didn't really impress me like they did everyone else. But the characters were just so fantastic I kept going. That's part of the reason I like the idea of Bendis or someone else taking over. I'm curious how someone else would handle them.

My favorite thing DnA did was the Darkhawk stuff. Of their entire cosmic run, the War of Kings: Darkhawk and War of Kings: Ascension story was my favorite. That Raptor storyline was just really interesting and I was real curious where it was going. The only thing I really liked after War of Kings was random Raptor involvements, from Nova to the Inhumans mini. I thought Talon was a fantastic threat.

Sadly, Dna left and nothing came of it. I really hope someone picks up on it thought because I LOVED it.

My favorite part of DnA's cosmic tenure was the reformation of the Nova Corps (Philo = awesome). I really, really, really would've liked a Nova Corps series.

Yeah, that was definately one of my favorites. I was more interested in the Raptors plot but I LOVED the Nova Corps from their introduction through the end. I'm still annoyed that nothing came of the Supernova plot and the Corps member who he saved.

I think I'm going to pick up the 4 trades... 5 if I wanna get the Thanos Imperative for the loose plot ends...

But you have to admit, Galactus would rock a GotG uniform.

I think DnA may have also been forced with some mandates ..not sure if these were there ideas, but they seem to have back shelved a lot of good unfinished arcs to match the events.

Conquest was the big Snafu, mainly because of the superficial force feed of "new" characters Phyla and Wraith.

both were disasters...although I actually like Phyla as a character, they tried waay too hard. That really hurt Conquest...which when you think about was an excellent story and sounded good in theory. I think that event could have been tweaked and been very good..but it really hurt the DnA cosmic marvel.

I'd say DnA's shining creation was Ko-Rel....really like her as a character and love her back story forged in Conquest.

I guess that ties into DnA's formation of the Nova Corps , which was done very well. I really like the Ego concept and the Nova tie ins to Realm/War of Kings.

That Robbie Ryder / Strontian stuff was great, i was really liking robbie as a character and had high hopes for him. Really loved worldmind taking the ID of Ko-Rel.

The Sphinx arc w/ DnA kinda lost me, I had really been looking forward to it..and it kinda stunk. Starkiller arc was meh as well, although the character has potential.

Wraith didn't even go anywhere, which made him even more pointless.

The only thing I actively didn't like from the whole DnA saga was the last Nova arc, though the ending with Nova flying off to go to Thanos Imperative, which I actually do like a lot, made me all warm and fuzzy.

But you got to admit DnA did it a whole lot better than Bendis did. I enjoyed them, mostly.

I personally don't like those interview blocks no matter WHO writes them.

I hold a small grudge against War of Kings as a story, as I feel the defeat of Vulcan was ripped away from the one person that should have been given the killing blow: Havok.

The finale of War of Kings should have been Havok's "This is for the Nova Corps!" moment. He was cheated.

Other than that, I loved cosmic Marvel and that was due to Nova and GotG. Loved those books.

Total agreement.

Havok is one of my favorite Marvel Characters, and he really should have been able to see it through. He really has the potential to take that big step, and i think he's overdue.

I just never root for Black Bolt , and the inhumans in general rub me the wrong way. Black Bolt is full of himself, and really seems like a prima donna.

I guess because he can't speak (and we dont get thought bubbles) that hurts a reader being able to identify with him. He's a great character for what he is, but that doesnt lend to being a fan favorite as a protagonist.

That story had me torn, because I am a huge fan of the Imperial Guard...maybe the story just had too many factions and moving parts to work.

I think we will all remember the DnA cosmic stuff in a much higher level than it actually sold though.

Never a good idea to give a book a gimmick of that sort...I know it's worked a few times, but not really over a long haul..then it seems weird when its gone.

I thought they were fine and kept up the light-hearted tone of the series. It's always easier to watch Star-Lord being tortured or Groot getting blown up if Rocket's joking about it in the corner of the panel.

I would have been very happy if all those panels were of Rocket and Groot. Would have made me a happy, happy man. But for what we got, I thought they worked fine for the story, especially when explained in the later books.

Avengers Assemble is garbage. And Bendis' dialogue for Thanos was laughable.

"You have made me mad. I am the Warrior of Death!"

Give me a ****ing break son. Go read some Starlin or Giffen comics Bri.

My favorite Thanos line was probably: "Interesting."

As his heart was just ripped out. :p
