If they would just ignore XMO: Wolverine from the continuity it would've been a little better, but so far they just pick and choose which parts from the X-Men trilogy that they want to be consistent with, and threw out the rest.

Seriously, its like parallel dimensions, or alternate timelines: Xmen1&2 are in one timeline, X3 is in another, Wolverine another, and XMen:FC another. The only "constant" is Logan looks exactly like Hugh Jackman in all the realities. He's like Desmond on Lost. Sigh.

Actually the X-men sequels and prequel have butchered themselves trying to stick to the continuity.

If you're against a remake, a reboot, or a prequel, as a film critic, you should still judge the movie based on it's artistic merits, not pre-conceived notions.

Any remake, reboot, sequel or prequel will judged against the previous entry. I remember plenty of critics citing the original Ocean's Eleven when George Clooney's version was released, saying it was a great idea to remake it. Batman Begins was another, I remember one critic saying it was the Batman movie everyone always wanted but didn't get until now. The last movie is only 10 years old and from all the reviews I've read they're telling the same basic story. That's a big knock against it, that it isn't original. Why should we get excited about a movie we saw 10 years ago, just slightly changed.

I actually heard Magic Mike is a pretty good movie. Isn't the director of Magic Mike a really good director or something?

It's directed by Steven Soderbergh and if you can see beyond the subject matter the movie apparently has a well conceived message.

Anyway I'd be more concerned with TASM than any of those three movies you just mentioned seeing as this is TASM section. Just a thought.

I'll admit, I don't really know anything about movies. I just really like Spider-man so I got into this movie and learned more about the old movies.

Well....yes he has, his films are all pretty much better directed than they are actually good films.

This is true to an extent, but not as inadmissible as you may think. At the risk of starting *that* conversation again; rehashing elements from previous works is just as much a "negative" as script problems or bad pacing. If a film requires it's audience to enter with a specific mindset (that is ignore a very very popular 10 year old film) then it's already a lesser film that fails to stand and enthrall on it's own power. That seems to be the main problem with critics...not that they were pre-opposed to a reboot, rather that the film feels redundant.

Of course this is just me analyzing the general outlook on the film, I haven't seen it yet so it could very well be a mere nitpick blown out of proportion.

The film will naturally share many elements with SM1 since they are using the same source material. We will have to wait until TASM2 to come out I suppose for people to get more hyped.

84% is my guess. People will rate it lower since it hasn't been a long time for a reboot. However I have a feeling I will prefer it to Raimi's because this time Peter Parker won't be so much like Clark Kent.
