Guess who the new writer of runaways is.

I keep hearing this twist thing everytime so one speaks his name but I always see them as like painfully easy to guess at least some buffy stuff was.
Right, 'cause everyone saw Colossus' return coming from a mile away.

Wait........

You mean you haven't been? You're really missing out on something great.
Only so much money per month; between three X-titles, Captain America, Civil War, Young Avengers back-issues, and other random purchases, the title never made it on the list.

Really, im getting tired of Joss Whedon. Though i find it kind of saddening that the book will triple in sales just because of his name.

Can't wait for Whedon's run...and the new character.

I think this is awesome. Whedon's done wonders on Astonishing, and Ryan's a terrific artist. Plus, the name value will help make this a seller. This sounds like Daredevil: I was sad to see Bendis and Maleev go, but Brubaker and Lark made me feel much better.

Oh, and I can't wait for The Loners. S.O.L.D.

This is very good news. Unlike some of you (), when it comes to Whedon, I take the Not Jake road and worship him.

Awesome news. THe only thing I am REALLY REALLY worried about is lateness, and its a question of when, not if.:(

ya.. joss did wonders with the X-men... hes an amazing writer, and is really great at writing women

Agreed! All the wrong kinds of people will start picking the book up now. At least Whedon is a good writer and actually brings some talent witht the hype.

I thought you were supposed to have dropped dead. :p

And apparently the lateness was due to Cassiday and not Joss.

What do you mean "wrong kinds"? People who have been fans of Joss have made up most of the Runaways audience so far.

But the people who buy Runaways now are Runaways fans first and maybe Joss fans second. If we see a 3x increase in sales when he takes over, it sure won't be because of a new found interest in the cast.

I am freakin dead. :D

Does anyone have examples of the new guys art? I am not familiar with him?

I don't see the problem in which order they become Runaways fans, as long as they do become fans and stick around to keep buying the book and allowing it to stick around for years to come. Fans are fans. Why is this upsetting people? It's really petty.

He's currently doing the art on New Excalibur.

That's my point. If they were fickle enough to only jump on board b/c Joss is writing, what happens when he leaves? I'm not being petty at all, just looking out for the longevity of the book as opposed to a huge temporary boost in sales.

I dont care about the sales, I know just from watching/reading Whedon's stuff that he is perfect for this.

Molly is going to be Colossals fav Runaway now.:D:p

if it brings new readers it brings new readers.. whatever there reasoning i don't care... as long as they enjoy and stay aboard and fall for the runaways like we all have. The Runaways could do great with this.. and need a popularity boost... its clearly one of marvels best books on the market.

Plus.. I really want a Runaways Movie someday... i think it would do pretty well and fairly easy for marvel to do

I couldn't care less about sales either. I just want the book to be well written and to stick around for a long time; and that depends on fans who are actually committed to the book, not just the author.

Hey, I'll keep an open mind and hope that Joss can make me not wanna throw Molly into a space. Planet Molly anybody? :p

Who says it's temporary? Runaways is still a new comic compared to a lot of stuff that's out there, and has not had alot of big stuff happening behind it to draw people in. So, most of the fickle comic readers out there are going to stick with what they like and only what they like. But if Whedon can go from a book that a lot of people recognize and like what he's done, to another book that people have seen around but not picked up and get them hooked on it, regardless of his writing of it, then they'd stick around. It's not like people are expecting Astonishing to automatically bomb just because Whedon leaves. People are still gonna be hooked on it and keep reading unless they get a crappy writer to come in after him. The same thing will happen to Runaways. As long as they treat the title with respect and don't throw in a crappy creative team after Whedon leaves, things will more than likely be fine. I say it's petty because I don't see any other writer talked about like this or their fans. It shows a negative opinion of the writer alone and people automatically making judgements just because of his name doesn't convey a clear judgement to others. Not singling you out, but just in general.

What i always liked about runaways was that it was never a traditional "superhero" book. It was an unconventional spin on a classic genre which is where whedon truly excels

I'll buy two!

Yeah, he is on one book right now. I CAN'T ESCAPE HIM HE'S IN THE AIR I BREATHE:csad::csad::csad:

:whatever:

What's wrong with a comic book like Runaways reaching a wider audience? If they come aboard when he comes aboard and leaves when he leaves, what's the big deal? For that matter, what's wrong with reading books just because your favorite writer is writing them? Isn't that the point? Every single person here has an affinity to one writer or another and often follows that writer across different projects. How many of you here have said something like "[Writer] is going to write this book? I'm totally there." or "I think I'll drop this book when [Writer] leaves."? How is that in any way different from this situation?

And it's not like Joss is Justin Timberlake or something, I doubt there will be all that many "mainstreamers" drawn to his name just for the sake of his name. Most fans of Whedon are already genre fans.
