Guillermo del Toro's The Strain coming to FX - Part 1

Oh god, this new Zach. I didn't really care of the original, but he was harmless compared this kid.

The kid is annoying no doubt about it. Everything he's doing is more or less appropriate I guess for a kid reacting to this situation but that doesn't mean we have to like it. Or be exposed to so much of it.

I don't want him to get killed off or written out but maybe they should focus the story more towards him accepting the truth and less throwing tantrums while ****ing vampires are out there drinking people like soft drinks.

The kid's exceptionally hateful, but for the moment I don't mind because it seems to be a good place for his character to be at the moment, given what he's gone through. I just hope they don't drag out or oversaturate this arc too much.

The councilwoman is awesome.

His scowl makes him look like he's auditioning to play Damien in The Omen: Tween Years.

:funny: "Satan will know of your transgressions, Father."

About that council woman, did I miss somethin? When did the public realize the obvious? One second they seem oblivious. Next moment they are hanging dismembered vampires on chain link and calling them vampires. They keep calling this a plague. Well, if its a plague then these vampires are victims. Generally America frowns on cutting up plague victims and stringing up their body parts. Im gonna add that scene to the "wtf stupid" category.

The way the show is handling the public angle of this thing is pretty hit or miss. It doesn't feel like the worlds ending in the show. The urgency just isn't there.

Yeah, you never really see chaos. Just some smoke, the sound of glass breaking and alarms, and few people running on the sidewalk. I guess this show's really on a tight budget

They could at least use news broadcasts to tell the audience that the larger populace isnt deaf and blind to whats happening. That would be the cheapest way to show the deterioration of society.

They need something. The vampire thing in this show feels more like Buffy in that it's kinda random ambushes with cackling villains in their lairs. The scope isn't there.

Most questions you have comes down to "this show is ephing stupid". Sometimes it is engaging, other times it is aggravating, but it's usually pretty stupid.

This kid is really starting to bug me. If he were to….disappear I wouldn’t miss him all that much >:]

I feel like I did not have that much of a problem with the kid last season but this season....I can't.
The first season Zack couldn't act but the new one comes off as annoying. His frustration and longing for his mother does not come across as sympathetic if that is what the kid is intending to do with his performance.

Watching a kid scowl, whine about his mom and throw tantrums isn't that entertaining.

I agree.

The budget constraints are really apparent when it comes to showing the scale of the disaster on the show.

You don't really feel the panic or chaos of the situation.

Its like hes constantly thinking, "This ****ing guy..."

I can't even look at that kid anymore without thinking this. :funny:

That councilwoman is a boss! Love her. She ain't messing around. :funny: Palmer's infatuation with his new assistant is hilarious. Gus continues to be awesome as well.

Also, watching this show makes me think of how good a properly adapted version of The Passage can be.

This show is the pinnacle of shows where the idea behind it isn't being matched by its parts.

Del Toro has a wonderful mind for ideas and I'm intrigued by anything vampire related but too many times I find myself being taken out of this show because of:

The poor acting at times.

People going around in the open being care free and kissing while there's an apocalyptic plague threatening to wipe out humanity.

The dedication to explaining how the vampire anatomy works and how easily the plague can be passed through a simple worm latching onto you....only to see people getting close in for a decapitation without a care about any worms flying close to them.

True Blood was turn your brain off but still managed to be entertaining for the first couple of seasons with reasonable acting and likeable characters.

I do like The Strain, but it's capable of better, and has shown it is in rare glimpses. Budget shouldn't prevent a show from finding the right atmosphere for a vampire apocalypse like.

It does feel toned down, like people aren't really aware of the vampire situation. That these incidents are isolated and either covered up or downplayed to their severity. If it hadn't been for the fact I read this thread I wouldn't know the entire world was aware of the crisis going on.

The opening of tonight's episode gave me Creature Double Feature flashbacks. :p Cheap horror goodness.

"The Silver Angel" The black-and-white luchador movie to open the episode was hilarious campy fun and a nice introduction to Angel. Using the Strigoi to find the nest was clever. The flashbacks continue to be interesting and the fight in the catacombs with the vampire monks was pretty cool. I thought the scene with Gus' mother was good and The Master talking through her was disturbing. The news crew getting attacked by Bolivar and a horde of vampires was great. The special effects makeup for the infected Strigoi looked really gross. Vasiliy Fet blowing up the subway station was kind of funny but it sucks those neighborhood watch guys caught him. Kelly and the blind vampire kids searching for Zach were really creepy.

That opening scene was awesome! :awesome: I really like Angel.

Eph piercing that growth on their test vampire's face was puke inducing. Eeeewww!

I loved the GDT directed opening of the episode! I was into it more than the episode, tbh.

I want gus to meet up with main crew..LIKE NOW

that's something that kids have always done... it's called "pop that zit"... :funny:

Think of all the fun he and the rat catcher would have. :p Blowing up everything.
