I brought this up already but it seems most of the fan-casting for this film is with Indian actors like Freida (and Dev Patel).

Aladdin is middle-eastern set in Disney's universe and I believe they are looking to cast actual middle-easterners in the role.

Despite some misconceptions Indians are about as middle-eastern as a european would be.

I was flipping through a who's who of Middle Eastern actors and actresses and a shockingly large amount of them do look white. They'll probably just go for a couple young unknowns like they did with Neel Sethi. Save the big names for Sultan, Jafar, Genie and Iago.

I was having a conversation the other day with my friend about who they should cast as the Genie and he had the idea of him being a CGI mo capped character and they just re-use Robin Williams dialogue from Aladdin and I think that would be the best thing to do it will create an interesting buzz for the movie.

Interesting idea, but I think they should just leave the RW Genie in the animated version and create a completely different version of the character for the live action version. No wacky impressions or rapid-fire jokes. You can't copy RW's Genie so they shouldn't even try. Do something new and different with the part.

Do we know if it's going to be a musical with the songs from the original movie?

They'll probably use real monkey sound effects for Abu if he's included. The tiger would surely be CGI if he's included.
