Fantasy Guy Ritchie Directing Disney's Aladdin

Anyone knows whether this was filmed with IMAX camera? I need to know before buying ticket.

Again does anyone know whether this was filmed with IMAX cameras? I'll only see it in IMAX if it was, otherwise I'll see it in a slightly cheaper but bigger screen.

I see. It seems like Disney was expecting the reviews to be... not good?

Perhaps they expected so because reaction to the first teaser was so bad, but it seems unnecessary since critics' reaction on Twitter is so far quite positive.

Tomatometer isn't up yet, but out of three reviews one is negative while the other two are positive. Average score of 6.3/10.

The romance lacks chemistry, and the villain lacks bite. It seems embarrassed to be a musical, failing to embrace the necessary ineffable daydreaminess. Somehow even more cartoonish as live-action.

While the remake doesn't quite do enough to feel like A Whole New World, it's still a lavish and enjoyable retelling of a classic tale.

It is a ravishingly beautiful musical extravaganza, teeming with energy and star-making performances. Naomi Scott is a marvelous Jasmine, who sings to the heavens. Will Smith is pitch-perfect, online skeptics will be eating their words.

4.5/5

I hope it ends up with a fresh rating. I might still find it average just like Beauty and the Beast and Christopher Robin, but if it gets a similar rating like the Alice in Wonderland films and Maleficent, I probably won't enjoy the film.

So far I'm really happy with the positive response. Let's hope it sticks. Keeping an eye out for the RT score.

Also, started listening to the soundtrack. Intrigued so far, but then again only just listed to the first track ATM. Going through the rest as I speak.

I've got that page up already.

Also, another though on the soundtrack so far I forgot to mention: I can DEFINITELY hear the influence of the Greatest Showman songwriters here. They were probably more involved than we were let on. A lot of old favorites sound different tune-wise than we're used to, but it all sounds GREAT so far! Even Arabian Nights had a lot of it's lines changed and it's longer! One BIG omission I can tell you from the tracklist is that Jafar's reprise of "Prince Ali" is definitely not in the remake.

Eh, reading some of the reviews I've seen on Twitter, I'm not sure this one is out of the woods just yet. lol.

Ok, finished with the core songs (skipped the end credits covers). I think a lot of those who loved the songs in Greatest Showman are gonna love these takes. Speechless is probably gonna be the big breakout takeaway, but Will Smith does a pretty damn good job with his songs in particular. Now I'm even more excited for Friday!

Speechless is GREAT. I've had it on repeat all morning!

I am seeing this Thursday, so I am hoping it surprises me. I have worries that my reaction to it will be lukewarm at best, though. Nothing about the marketing of this movie has grabbed me. Albeit, I am encouraged by the early reviews being mostly positive (though there is time for that to flip), so at least I am hopeful it won't be a total dumpster fire. The art direction and everything for this movie looks nice, but the core story just looks...not creative. That's my biggest issue with these remakes. They've largely been creatively lazy. Really outside of The Jungle Book (and to a lesser degree Dumbo...though Dumbo was just sort of okay regardless).

Had a quick look and the Twitter reviews are looking positive. A lot of people saying the were surprised by how much they enjoyed it and how they didn't expect it to be that good based on the trailers.

I guess it's one of those times where you have to watch the whole thing to appreciate it and small trailer snippets don't capture it well.

Naomi Scott sounds fantastic, especially on A Whole New World. She sounds much better than Aladdin. And she's great on Speechless too, but on A Whole New World is where she really shines.

She sounds like a proper Disney singer. She could easily voice an animated Disney princess as well.

I hope Naomi Scott plays in some other musicals. She's got a great voice. I guess she could star in a film version of Bombay Dreams, but why limit her to these kinds of roles?

Get her in the MCU as well!
