Fantasy Guy Ritchie Directing Disney's Aladdin

Yeah he'd already be getting fan casted in random comic book **** by this point. Which is a shame because he's s pretty charasmatic dude. Frankly I'd throw him in Black Adam as Dr. Fate or something.

I think it's too early to tell with him. I'm sure he'll be fine.
He has a TV show coming out. An adaptation of Brave New World on the NBC streaming service.

It's not like "random comic book ****" is the only option in Hollywood.
Aladdin will be fine. He's starring in a TV series, and other opportunities will come along, I'm sure.

Massoud? I didn't think he was charismatic in Aladdin at all. Rami Malek and Dev Patel are both loads more charismatic than him.

Yeah, that's another thing. Massoud was fine in his scenes with Will Smith, but he didn't really carry his own scenes or the scenes with his other castmembers and was quite bland. I mean, I'm sure he'll improve. But his gig in "Aladdin" sure wasn't a "starmaking" one.

So if next time they'll give a role to, say, white dude Dan Stevens over him, there's a reason for that. Which is not necessarily about race.

It's not, but it's what gets people talking.

About the only times Massoud showed any spark were his dance number, and the awkward bit with him and Smith trying to introduce him as Prince Ali to the Sultan.

Honestly, these days television is another platform which gets people talking. Bill Hader's ultimate signature role is "Barry." The "Stranger Things" cast (kids and adults) became stars overnight.

And of course we're on Superhero Hype, but there are so many different kind of movies which get people talking, as well.

Same for Game of Thrones, which some of them like Emilia Clarke have used to get more film roles.

Rami Malek also became an overnight sensation thanks to "Mr. Robot," and a household name thanks to "Bohemian Rhapsody." And he did his fair share of small roles.

So if Massoud is pissed about not auditioning for big starring roles, he should probably just look for good roles, even supporting ones and cut his teeth. He's not THAT experienced yet, and he hasn't delivered any GREAT performances yet.

Yea, some people grow as actors. Robert Pattinson has come a long way. Tom Hardy tried to have a breakout role with Star Trek: Nemesis and then it flopped and he had to struggle for years before making a second breakout with Bronson, by which time he was a way better actor than he was when he did Nemesis.

Exactly. I'm with Will Smith on this. He shouldn't worry so much. He'll be fine. Unless his ego gets in the way.

Again, there are young and new actors who do worse in way worse movies who are still afforded bigger and more opportunities than Mena says he's getting.

The whole, "He wasn't that good in the movie" point doesn't hold water

And it doesn't sound like Mena is expecting the world or the next huge action franchise, but from what he said he's not even getting in the room. If we was going to auditions and just not booking them, then I get the argument that he's just not that good of an actor. I do wonder if he means getting auditions for starring roles or just roles in general

EDIT: And Will Smith's response kinda doesn't mean anything. "He is a spectacular actor, and he has nothing to worry about," there are plenty of actors that are older women, POCs, etc. that say they have a hard time getting roles despite being good or even great actors. Or if they do get roles they're very stereotypical or reductive.

I mean if this isn’t proof enough... :lmao: The timing too...

I don't like to say movies/shows aren't necessary because, really, which are? But if there were anything to say it for...

Massoud probably low key heard about this said spinoff and then just went to the press about not getting auditions.

That’s a slap in the face.

They never thought about a Disney+ "Aladdin" series? It could be like the cartoon but Jasmine would have to be recast. Unless Naomi is free to do a 6 episode season
