Fantasy Guy Ritchie Directing Disney's Aladdin

Yea I’d be really curious if the person who wrote that could find a single actual person who thought Prince Anders was “scene stealing”. Or even knows who Prince Anders is.

Luke Evans has talked about how he couldn't get a non musical acting role for years. Evans couldn't even get audition call backs for minor tv parts.

It was only when Evans landed a dramatic welsh play lead role that he got taken seriously as more than just a musical theatre actor.

Massoud just needs to keep at it.

1) Unless you're talking about something else he said, Luke Evans was talking about his issues with that when he was first starting out during his theatre days. Way different than what Massoud is talking about.
2) As has been pointed out by a few actors, being openly gay; like Evans is, can affect getting roles. Especially straight roles, which is the bulk of Hollywood roles.

Aladdin sucked. That character was stupid. Making a spinoff about that character is equally stupid.

Did anyone leave Aladdin thinking, "Yeah we need more of that kooky prince character! Give him his own show!

Massoud? I didn't think he was charismatic in Aladdin at all. Rami Malek and Dev Patel are both loads more charismatic than him.

He didn't impress me in Aladdin at all. I thought he had a good singing voice. Like he was able to sing better than Will Smith. But yeah, in terms of acting and charisma, was not impressed.

Fans of course aren't happy about this and think it's completely unfair to Mena.

Fans upset 'Aladdin' star Mena Massoud can't get audition while Billy Magnussen lands spin-off

I say, go for it outrage mob. Nip this production in the bud.

As for Massoud, chances are he got paid pennies on the dollar for Aladdin. He's a total unknown so I doubt he got a huge deal for that film.

I mean look at Gal Gadot, she was one of the lowest paid actors on Batman v Superman.

Robert Downey Jr. got paid less for Iron Man than Terence Howard. He didn't clean up until the sequels and Avengers.

anyone really surprised another example is Suraj Sharma(Lead From Life Of Pi) hasn't gotten anything of worth in the past 7 years since Life Of Pi

He didn't hit it big but he's on a steady job at CBS with "God Friended me"

I mean Ang Lee has continued making movies. Why not cast him and make more roles for him?

It's not about getting roles. It's that, he claims, he's not even getting auditions. That's weird

I mean I don't think anyone is talking about what he got paid. No one really cares about that or is talking about pay disparity when it comes to this, so I don't see why bring it up.

It is less about how much he got paid, and more how he isn't given the same chances as Jai Courtney and Sam Worthington and the various other indistinguishable white "leading men". Let him stink up a few other movies before you mainly ignore him.

I blame Hollywood. Let 'em have it. It's a self-defeating model. Guys don't get the chance to be a star if they aren't given opportunities.

I dunno, I think pay disparity is worth addressing here. I see no reason why not.

I'll say what everyone is thinking. He's not getting auditions because there aren't a lot of casting agents looking for his "type," that includes his ethnicity. There probably isn't a wide net being cast for various roles, either through biased casting agents, or executives at the office or studio level. And that's definitely a problem.

And frankly, there aren't a lot of major roles written or produced for his type beyond really specific stories that call for them like Aladdin.

I'm gobsmacked why Disney went o a Prince Anders spinoff. It makes no sense. Was anyone talking about this character really? It seemed like a more likely spinoff would be the Genie and his family and maybe Genie regales them tales adapted from Arabian Nights. And you could do like an anthology or something with bumpers including Will Smith. Not saying I want that or that they should even do it, just an idea for a spinoff for Disney+.

I think Billy is a talented guy, no doubt. And I enjoyed his brief role in Aladdin. But this is ill-advised.

Most reviews and word of mouth was the aladdin actor was the weakest part next will and jasmine. He was ok but this whole guilting people into auditions is not how you go about it. Cant say race plays a part when will smith was the lead and reason the whole thing was a hit

Time out there jai courtney was clubbed for his horrible turn in terminator and barely holding on with suicide squad.

Worthington is saved by avatar and if not for the sequels he would be doing nic cage level movies by this point.

He didn’t guilt anyone. He was just open about his experience. The interviewer even says Mena wasn’t complaining.

Also Will has been an established actor for decades and is also not the same race as Mena. His success doesn’t really mean much of anything here.
