Hackers to Ashley Madison website: Pay up or we reveal the name of all your cheaters!

Some of you being so callous about suicides and hate crimes are in no position to be acting so morally righteous, because you're not.
It is sad that anyone has lost their lives, but if someone takes their own life over this, I have trouble blaming others for it. Need to consider how troubled their lives were in general to take such a sad and permanent step.

The hate crimes are ridiculous.

What's done in the dark will come to light EVENTUALLY. That is pretty much a fact of life. So people complaining about the hackers exposing these people need to chill out. The cheaters just got what was coming to them eventually. So the hackers really aren't the bad guys here. As for the cheaters who now want to commit suicide because their dirty laundry is out in the open, well it's sad that they would take their own life, and my thoughts and prayers do go out to the families but honestly, its a cowardly thing to do. You don't want to deal with the consequences of cheating or having the intent to cheat so killing yourself is the answer? Yea, I know what some are going to say, nobody is perfect we all make mistakes etc. While all that is true, it still doesn't justify killing yourself (at least not over something like this).
What in the world is wrong with you?

There is so much wrong with this that I wouldn't know where to begin.

I think it's safe to say these leaks have done more damage than good.

You have to take into account that maybe there was a link between some people using this site and whether they suffered depression. This is the kind of fallout I feared. It's easy for all the people taking the moral high ground to say 'don't cheat' but the possibility exists some people who used that site (and other dating websites) were in loveless relationship, suffering depressing and were looking for someone to turn to. Anyone who thinks it's simply a case of getting a divorce or leaving doesn't know the first thing about people who suffer anxiety or depression.

If you've got nothing personally connecting you to the client list and the public hack, extortion attempts, crimes and fallout, its easy to cheer and be callous about. Its that simple.

They don't have skin in the game, or much empathy for the collateral damage which are the spouses and families who are hurt by the public shaming. If that's how you wanna roll , that's how you wanna roll, but you shouldn't complain if meet your own personal misfortune and other people treat you so callously.

While this is potentially true, the help they should have been getting should have been from a medical professional.

Do you understand that sometimes people who suffer depression and anxiety don't know where to turn to?

As someone who suffers from depression and anxiety, yes. Proper treatment is always the answer. That many don't get it is unfortunate. That it results in lost of life is devastating.

Of course it's always the answer if it's available. I got proper treatment myself for it a few years back also. You know as well I as do that many people who suffer don't always know who to turn to for help or aren't always mentally strong enough to know what to do.

Of course. But using Ashley Madison was never going to be a solution in the long run. So lets not act like it was.

The suicide wouldn't happen without the hackers. Some people aren't mentally stable enough to withstand the shame and embarrassment that comes with this situation, the fact some in here seem to just to be ok with that kind collateral damage is frankly appalling to me.

You still don't get it, and my parole officer has warned me that I get 'too excited' when discussing these topics with 'fellow hype members'.

Here's a hint though, the suicides wouldn't happen without the cheaters. Since all the apologists want to have theoretical discussions, in a number of cases people would find out anyways, how do we blame the hackers then? Oh yeah, we say the public nature of the incident is the only thing capable of creating the emotions necessary for someone to commit suicide. But I'll politely excuse myself from this conversation

That has nothing to do with the unfortunate loss of life. Come on people, we are better then this.

Y'all are starting to see why I put him on ignore. :o

.... not that it matters, of course. I ended up reading his post anyway.
Oh I have been keeping my eye on him. Like Human Torch 2.0 so I filed that fact away into my memory bank. Anyway I'm moving on before I get in trouble...

Things are getting rather heated in this thread....

Need to buy everyone here a bar of Snickers. :funny:

Of course not, and I agree, but it's facepalm-worthy to watch people try and claim it's the hackers' fault if someone commits suicide from the hack.

Also sounds like we got a bunch of cheaters up in here trying to displace responsibility onto the hackers, but that's none of my business.

I am sorry Sawyer.

I read this as "The Bar of the Snickers". I giggled.

Of course it isn't entirely or even mostly their fault, but don't sit there and act like they bear no responsibility whatsoever. Come on.

I do agree that placing the blame on the hackers is misplaced.

And I would never cheat on SPIDEY. :cwink:

I never said they didn't, but there are a fair number of people in here who seem to be all but absolving the adulterers of their behaviour while claiming any fallout is solely the responsibility of the hackers.

I'd say it's like 65/35 to the adulterers. No adultery, nothing to hack, no fallout. No hack, still the normal rate of people finding about the adultery. And both of them are criminals depending on where you are.

But I understand the need some people have to demonise the hackers so that adulterers can adulterize in peace and quiet like they deserve to be able to do.
