I'm curious, what parts did you actually consider suspensful in the remake?

It doesn't matter because when I say it all you'll do is TRY to counter it by saying it wasn't suspenseful so I'm not going to waste my time.

I will say that the remake is pretty good after the crappy attempts with the Amityville Horror, The Fog, The Omen, When A Stranger Calls, and Black Christmas.

However, with all that said, the only good horror remakes have been Rob Zombie's Halloween, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and The Hills Have Eyes in my opinion. The problem I have with Rob Zombie's Halloween is that it takes away the scary factor that made the original intense, scary, atmospheric, and suspenseful. I didn't like the fact that you felt sorry for Michael instead of being scared of him, he wasn't really a personification of pure evil he was just some kid who grew up in a bad enviornment and eventually just ended up snapping.

While I love Malcom McDowell and find him to be a great actor, his Dr. Loomis was something I couldn't get used to. The Dr. Loomis I remember stood up to Michael despite being afraid of him and having no sympathy for him whatsoever.

To say that the remake of Halloween was/is more suspenseful than the original? Come on now, I agree that it was more gritty, violent, and more tense than the original, but to say it was more suspenseful than the original is pushing it a bit far if you ask me. We're all entitled to our own opinions and everything, however, when push comes to shove the original Halloween still gives me a chill to my bones as the music and the terror that was in the film really made the hairs on my neck stand up.

Zombie failed to capture the real essence of Michael Myers and failed to create the suspense around the character. Here is what I'm talking about when it comes to suspense.

I originally gave this movie a six. But after watching it again, I now give it a four. It was a lot worse the second time around. Pretty much any negative thing I think about it has already been said in this thread.

Well I finally rented the DVD.

I think the DC is all right and restores more of the Smithgrove scenes, moreo f Laurie being a good babysitter and more Loomis and Michael interaction at the very end. I also personally like the end with Michael and Laurie going off the balcony and her going nuts after she puts a bullet in her brother's face (albeit I prefer the original ending on the Work Print which is nowhere to be seen more). It also confirms Loomis lived, which makes me happy.

But he also restored the ridiculous rape scene. Yeah, Michael breaking chais is silly (but so is most of what he does), but two "security guards" deciding to rape a patient inside the roomo f the unchained psychopath next store who hasn't talked since a nurse pissed him off and he ripped her throat out with a fork...that's what we're left at? "Oh let's go gratutiousliy rape this girl in front of the sasquatch, I'm sure he won't do anything wrong!"

It also restored a suburban daughter in a "normal family" fingering a bagel to her mother and making sex jokes and talking about rim jobs. It also has everyone in Haddonfield talk like they live in a trailer park. If he wants to white trash-in up the Myers family, fine, but EVERY character talks in this very unrealistic (given the environment) redneck white trash continous cursing gutter mouth language. It just makes the whole thing so fak looking.

With that said I actually thought the first half was strong. Myers' family was sad and funny, what he did to them and the bully was truly disturbinngg. His scenes with his mother and Loomis in Smithsgrove bordered on a brilliant turn and was easily the best portion of the movie and Joe Grizzly is one of the best characters in a slasher movie ever and deserves his own spin off.

I still give it a 7/10 to be generous because I liked the first half. But Laurie and her friends could be way more likeable and all the tasteless nudity got old after a while. The original is still a 10/10. But this is head and shoulders above most horror movie remakes and actually brings something positively fresh to the table. It still pales to the original, unsurprisingly though.

i want to know where everyone in this forum lives who thinks teenagers cursing up a storm is "white trash" or unrealistic. people do talk that way. i'm not defending the movie, just that aspect of it which doesn't deserve the amount of derision that it gets.

Yeah, but it gets old to hear someone cursing in every sentence in a movie. Sure, it happens in real life but it doesn't have to be exactly that way in the movies, I hate hearing a bunch of cursing in movies where it doesn't belong, like these. Comedy movies, though, are a different story.

it didnt belong at the beginning . . teenage girls cussing later on is acceptable but it wasnt wise to make one odf them out to be a ****.
I liked alot of this movie but there were certain things that were all wrong and im glad that the rape scene was cut out . I thought donald pleasance 's loomis character was done wrong and the different ending was baffiling . why make a remake?? Rob should of made a friday the 13th film ..

No, he did better with this. I didn't mind the cursing, there was just too much at most points in the movie.

Even though I hate your signature with a passion, I agree with you on this.

I wish they cursed more. I love a girl with a dirty mouth :yay:

Which Halloween movie do you all think had the best mask? I'd say the remake & then the original.

I love both masks. But the original just had more detail. Around the cheeks, nose and mouth. Its almost impossible to find a replica today without paying 500 bucks.

The original, followed by part 2, followed by Halloween 6, then the remake.

Itwas^^^ When I saw the movie I was hoping for superior halloween compared to the others but I was let down.....I thought it was good..But it would pretty get boring after a couple veiwings i think..

I like the Halloween remake, but the more I watch the more I find I actually dislike it. The original Halloween, by far is superior. The remake, as good as it is, doesn't hold a candle to the original.
