It's truly a sad day not only in horror movie-dom, but hardcore rock-dom when a man of Rob Zombie's talent goes and sells out. I hate to use that term, but I don't know how else to describe this bulls*** move he's made. Simply the idea of the original Halloween film(Michael Myers Begins???)being remade at all is about as ridiculous as remaking Psycho, any of the Romero "Dead" pictures, or Texas Chainsaw Massacre. All the aforementioned movies are classic, contemporary horror pictures. I seriously doubt anyone's gonna debate that which is exactly the same reason why, if there was any justice in this world, Hollywood would've left them alone. And, nobody feed me that studio PR horses*** excuse of "Oh, we're doing this in order for the new generation of kids to identify with these movies easier" to paraphrase. If anything, Rob Zombie was cranking out some truly original blood and gut pictures which could easily become staples of gore cinema(and, no doubt, will end up being remade by some twit 25 years from now)down the road. Why in the name of H.P. Lovecraft would he turn around and remake ANY movie let alone John Carpenter's beloved cringefest? I've lost respect for poor ol' Zombie. What the hell's next? Marilyn Manson remaking the original Nightmare on Elm Street??

-so sayeth the mastermind-

I was all for Rob's Halloween when I first heard about it. He orginally talked about an entirely new Halloween film with Michael being the only returning element. Now he's talking about wasting half the film on Michael's childhood(which I couldn't care less about and shouldn't have more than a few brief scenes spent on it), and bringing back EVERY damn character from the original. The two things I was most hoping that he wouldn't do.
Furthermore he's working with those hack Weinsteins that ****ed up his idea for The Crow so badly that he was so fed up he left the project, now this comes up and "oh, lots of money, I like these guys now, lets remake Halloween!:)"

The Devil's Rejects is one of my favorite films and I enjoyed Corpses quite a bit, but Rob is indeed turning into a sell-out, as well as a hipocrit for his excessive bashing of remakes like TCM only to do pretty much the same thing regardless of whether he's admitting it or not.

theres already a thread on this........

My view on remakes:

I don't care! It's not like they're destroying the old classic to make way for the new one. The classic is still available and able to be seen. What's coming out is just someone's updated version of that particular story. Sometimes you get an awesome product, and sometimes you don't. Doesn't really matter, you still got the classic that's still widely available.

What's debatable is whether or not the person can actually update the story and make it any good. They shouldn't be damned just for trying.

Agreed, I don't have any problem with them either.

I like TCM(as flawed as it is), PJ's Kong and Aja's Hills are two of my favorites (both vastly superior to their predecessors), and I like several other remakes.

The problem I have with this film isn't that it's a remake, but that the more I hear, the worse it sounds.

True, but you can't deny that a Rob Zombie version of Halloween will be interesting to see at least once. Just as a guilty pleasure even.

I trust Rob Zombie, even if I hate Halloween :o

True, but like the other guy was saying, when you thoroughly bash remakes one minute then do a 180 and choose to direct a remake the next minute, damnation and the Anti-Hypocrisy League are right around the corner wearing Dario Argento t-shirts and wielding red hot pokers ready to use as an enema.

I can't wait to see Rob Zombie's take on "Halloween".

I dunno.....I hated Cropses....but haven't seen Rejects.

I am interested to see how he'll make Michael Myers in his take.

But, half the movie about his childhood?? What is this....MICHAEL MYERS BEGINS or something?

On IMDb it says he's also directing a remake of Evil Dead.

that the only confirmation is IMDB is your first clue it's bulls**t...although if he directed the ED remake, I might actually see it :o

I checked again and the page doesn't list a director anymore.

Here's my take, and I stand by it:

I say...remake anything you want. What's the point of stopping people from interpreting a story more than once? It's not like he's taking the only remaining footage of the original Halloween and buthering it. He's telling the story with a new vision, that has nothing to do with the original series.

How is he diminishing the original in any way? He's not touching it! This film will stand on it's own, and I don't see what's so wrong with that. If you aren't interested in seeing it, then don't, and stop worrying about it. But if anything, this is a good thing, because it introduces a whole new generation to the story of Halloween, and they'll only end up seeing the brilliant original after this.

If a really horrible movie comes out, you won't have any negative feelings towards it. You just won't see it. But why when a remake comes out will you start boycotting it and *****ing about it before you even see it?

It doesn't make much sense.

Lets face it Halloween was bound to get remade by some **** anyway. At least Zombie's a fan of the genre and might come up with something good. I would really like to see him remake movies that need remaking like Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things, Dark Night of the Scarecrow or Maniac.

What he said.

There is an interview with Wes Craven in the new TV Guide. He says that people will eventually have to accept that remakes are a legitiment art form as well. Just like song remixes. It was a good point.

Ah. See, I didn't know Zombie bashed remakes. Well, maybe he should be damned for trying then!! ;)

But remakes are not legitmate art forms. They are studios rehashing old success to make money off of a brand name that already achieved the status of "classic."

Tbhey're lower than sequels. And okay every now and then you get Peter Jackson's King Kong but along the way you get Planet of the Apes, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Birds, Psycho, Rear Window, etc. etc.

With that said I think the original Halloween is a classic. By the same token the sequels were all pretty ****ty though at varying degrees (though I did sure enjoy H20, guilty as charged) but overall feel the franchise needs to stay dead. Not just to make another mindless sequel but to remake the original is stupid. I consider Zombie talented in skill but a hack in content (Zombie was a poor man's rendition of the original TCM as well and also a bad snuff movie and its sequel while better was anything but enjoyable or interesting).

HIm doing this is merely to try and one-up the original as an "artist" and as Planet of the Apes showed that is stupid.

Oh well.

everyone needs to watch Devils Rejects RIGHT NOW!
