Don't get me wrong, I love this show. But every time I see someone or a website talk about the show they always have to mention the hallway 1 shot take fight, and for my money it just wasn't that great. Some of the punches were obviously not landing, and there were just much better choreographed fight scenes in the show (Nobu fight). Also, it felt like a rip of the hallway gauntlet fight scene from late season 1 of Arrow, which is better IMO. I don't know, just my 2 cents.

It was tribute to the Old Boy hallway fight scene, certainly not a rip-off of Arrow...

I thought the scene was great but I think a lot of people who just watch the clip online with no context don't realize that Daredevil was dealing with some pretty bad injuries during that fight.

If he was sloppy it was due to the fact he was fighting on pure adrenaline.

Also, if I remember correctly, the fight in Arrow was pretty much a copy of the fight from the movie The Raid.

DD's hallway fight is muuuch better than Arrow's. And then I actually really like that fight scene from Arrow.

there's some context as matt is doing this with broken ribs.

I think it's overrated. Particularly because the stuntman change outs are so noticeable, particularly the last one where the stuntman throws the final punch and flops himself through the doorway, then Cox emerges a few seconds later.

Still. It's fine. And the show as a whole is phenomenal.

I loved it, but last week's AoS fight w/Skye was the best TV fight for the MCU.

I thoroughly enjoyed the hallway scene. And as DD was dealing with some pretty bad injuries at that time, any "sloppiness" makes sense to me.

If you didn't like it then that's your loss. I thought it was fantastic. Not just the fight scene and how it was filmed but the buildup and the ending where he hesitates at the door and then lifts the mask knowing the kid would be terrified. Beautifully done.

I think it was the best filmed fight scene. I don't know if it was the most spectacular fight, but the filming of the scene was still amazing.

No, the hallway fight is actually underrated. It was that good.

Also…

I don't understand how people can cite Daredevil's sloppiness as a flaw of that scene. Daredevil's sloppiness was one of the greatest strengths of that scene. It was the most visceral and satisfying fist fight I've ever seen in a superhero adaptation, in part because the hero actually got tired. It made the danger real.

no...It's not overrated. And to say it is due to the use of multiple stuntmen is odd to put it mildly. The fact that the timing had to be perfect between some many different participants makes it even more impressive and certainly not less so. But to each their own.

Imo, yes it is. But that doesn't make it any less entertaining.

It's a fantastic scene that deserves the praise it gets. I loved the exhaustion, that's a nice touch I have rarely seen in fight scenes.

This. I can see how someone viewing the scene out-of-context may come to the conclusion that it looks 'sloppy' because prior to this scene you'd have to be aware that Matt was found to be barely alive in a dumpster. He had broken ribs, cuts, bruises, abrasions and a tension pneumothorax for goodness sake. That is a serious life-threatening injury and for those that are unaware, a pneumothorax is essentially a collapsed lung.

But the 'sloppiness' was one of the best parts in that entire fight scene. It brought DD down to a very human level, one that we often don't get to see in these types of shows/movies. He was badly hurt, barely able to fight let alone stand. His fighting form was depleted. This was very animal. It was about survival. The scene had so much tension because of the factors involved, the risk and what it meant if he did not succeed. His life as well as the life of a child was hanging in the balance and in front of him was what seemed like a slew of never-ending foot soldiers. Each punch carried with it this tremendous weight, tremendous meaning and the result was an exhausting emotion-filled, very palpable moment. I've never seen a fight scene in any CB movie or show that produced as much 'on the edge of my seat' excitement and nervousness. It was brilliantly choreographed, expertly filmed and the performances were spot on. Noticing stunt men is a poor criticism, imo. The hallway scene deserves the kudos and then some.

the only thing that bothers me is the stuntman is much shorter than charlie cox...its pretty obvious.

other than that..no complaints at all..it is a great scene

I'm not sure what you were seeing? but Charlie's stunt double for Daredevil is Chris Brewster http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2423528/ and their both 5'10".

How much of that was Charlie, how much was a double, and how’d you go about things like that?

It was a good balance. Charlie would do a lot of things, and then there were things Charlie just wasn’t trained for. And we had a great stunt double, Chris Brewster, who worked great with Charlie. They had a great relationship. But Charlie did a great deal of it, and then the stunt double did things that just were physically out of Charlie’s training.

I did notice that as well. The stuntman was much shorter than Charlie Cox. Check the end from when the stuntman was punching until to the right doorway to when CC is going to the kid. You will see the height difference.

I've seen the scene a few times already I think it's just an optical illusion. Read the above article link, it details the behind the scenes of that scene including who served as Charlie's stunt double. The guy is listed on IMDB as 5'10.5", Charlie is 5'10".

I beseech you to not take the discussion into "They used stuntman. How dare they" territory. With all due respect, that would be petty.

About the fight, you do notice the small things once you have seen the fight 4-5 times, namely that it isn't as cool or "superhero-ey" (like, as someone said, Skye's scene in AoS) but the fact that I was tempted enough to re-watch it 4-5 times speaks volumes.

Besides DD v. Fisk this is the scene I remember vividly. Top fight scene of any show.

I don't like this as much as everyone else so it's overrated. I'm fine when people say they just don't like something but calling it overrated is just meh.

I thought it was fantastic. He was sloppy, exhausted but focused on his goal. The storytelling in the fight was amazing.

Nobu Vs Daredevil was better

The amount of times DD got hit was unbelievable

Is there anything about this show that hasn't been overrated? :hehe:
