Not sure what other people have been saying... but I finally saw this the other day and it was bad, bad, bad!!

The first third was great, I was really getting into it. Really funny, really good, but then, it hits a part and just turns for the worst, the absolute worst. It becomes cheesy and ridiculous. It starts becoming very confusing and has no "common sense." In the end, I realized how great it is to have Stan Lee write such iconic characters. Hancock's superheroes are bland and don't even really have a backstory... Really not that great - don't waste your money on it!

Just seen it.

A couple of 'heads up's' (non-spoiler)...

1.) Quantum of Solace trailer is practically guaranteed and will be scope ratio, most likely in the last spot right before the feature. This will be consistent around the world.

2.) The credits roll. Stay seated. After about three names (Directed by Peter Berg etc.) there's another scene that will probably stall people in the aisles on the way to the door.

Comments...

I think the critics can be ignored on this one. I'd call this an "each to their own" movie, although my advice is to go in without high expectations. Hancock is not a smash hit event movie, but merely an ok outing needing more comedy to succeed as a comedy, more action to be a superhero movie and less exposition dialogue that leaves the big question unanswered.

I take it you haven't seen Arrested Development then. :yay:

Jason Bateman is a god among men.

I always remember him from that sitcom Silver Spoon. :word:

I liked this movie. I'm actually the opposite of most people reviewing this movie. I hated the "so called" comedic parts at the beginning, but liked the dramatic bridge into this character with so much more depth than just being a drunken anti-hero. Hancock reminds me of Ironman/Tony Stark, except not as controlling which makes him more likable to me.

When they tried to make it legit... everything fell apart...
starting with the dinner scene. THey went away from the comedy... they made it a love story that NO ONE had the slightest bit of interest seeing.
I thought this film was going to be a hit... but it will be dropping hard in the next few weeks. What they should have done... have Will Smith be an alien visitor from a comet like Superman or something... and they should have made Theron the evil step sister that followed shortly thereafter... and they should have just had hero and villain duking it out.
Instead we got a freaking convoluted love story...
awful awful awful.... typical Will Smith... the guy is entertaining... yet his name never finds its way into an outstanding film. Not worth it unless you need to buy the time till TDK... my only advice is... find better things to do between now and then.

Ebert liked it, and said it was a more realistic take on all the other comic flicks that have come before.

Usually, if Ebert liked it, I like it.

However, he did love Wanted and Get Smart. I did not like the former, and I only thought the latter was decent.

:o

I saw the movie tonight, I enjoyed it, don't know why the critics was hating on the movie that much. Most movies I like don't get good reviews, lol The story is not that complexed but it works for what it is. The crowd really enjoyed the movie and clapped at the end of it. I'll definitely get the DVD when it comes out.

No, not really. Ebert has his fair share of the films he thinks are masterpieces, great, good, mediocre, and outright horrible. Ebert is even too tough (see his bad The Incredible Hulk review). Sure, he seems to have lightened up on summer blockbusters, but perhaps, that's because not all summer blockbusters aren't always deemed to suck.

Saw the movie tonight and I liked it. The first 1/3 as everyone has mentioned is freaking great with wonderful action, wonderful jokes, and Will Smith pulls it off with every line. Jason Bateman and Charlize are also wonderful as is their little son. I couldn't find one instance of bad acting in this entire movie from all of the major players. Now I know a lot of people are b****ing about it turning dramatic but I think it needed it. No one is going to sit through 95 minutes of Will Smith doing the same thing drunk and think it was amazing so that is pretty hypocritical. After Will and Bateman join up, it does begin to lag a bit and the final battle isn't very spectacular but more poignant. I liked the new take on the superhero and I think a sequel would be warranted. I however do not get the constant references to the eagle but hopefully another movie would explain it and the final shot of [BLACKOUT]the eagle with him by his side[/BLACKOUT] (it was very corny). Every story has redemption and this movie is no different. The only other problem I have with this movie is the villian...quite a let down but it was very dramatic.

There were also a lot of scenes in the trailer that were not in the movie like the "Hancock is down, he looks hurt," and the shot of him flying past the newstands and them going into the air.

This was one of his better summer blockbusters 7/10

Ok. Before I give my two cents. C- Review. Now to why;

Will Smith returns to his usual hyped up 4th of July film release. Like 'I Am Legend', it has a good premise for a movie but an half way through the film it falls completely apart. I liked the cast, and seing Dange Firch (??) camo was a little bizaare. Here's my beef. Was the counless use of the words A**hole and Sh** really needed? It's a PG-13 film and I think the overkill of those two words plus the one F**k was over the top.

I really wanted to like this film because it seemed like a good film at first. Drunk superzero turns into a hero afterall. The story started off pretty nicely, but the pace of the film was a bit rushed. The 'twist'y type subplot was so obvious from the first moment Charleze Therone (?? no I can't spell names..okay?) hit the screen.

The actions scenes were dull, but decent effects made it a bit better than horrible. Personaly, I would have loved to just see a drunk Hancock movie all the way through with no moral of the story needed.

Personaly, I just didn't like this film.

I disagree.

I can't believe this movie was released in such horrid condition. It's incoherent, tone-deaf, and really sloppy. I'm pretty sure that the studio scissors attacked it HARD, in a futile effort to make a more family-friendly 4th of July Summer Blockbuster hit. I'd write more but I have to sort out the bile in my head. Just a completely wretched piece of garbage that slaps of cynical studio manipulation and focus-group moulding.

Honestly, I'm kinda surprised that a bunch of you, who understand comic book films, could give this lazy, insulting load of tripe a pass.

Saw the 7 o clock showing and thought it was a "Good" movie. The first act is really the funniest part of the film. With Will bad mouthing a couple of people here and there. Second act was kinda cool but not really. I like how he stopped the Bank heist and how everytime calls him "*******" he gets really offended. The 3rd act was strangly played out with those guys from the Bank heist coming back. Acting was pretty better that I expected but its Will Smith,Charliez Theron and Jason Bateman who can go wrong with that? I give a 7.5 out of 10
