That would be pretty cool, but I fear that he will draw a lot of attention onto himself, which violates the premise of the Shield being a pack of equals.
I would love to see Prince Devitt in The Shield, but I know I'm alone in that.
If they get a third member, it will be two established guys who could main event a PPV, and a brand new guy with no WWE history or fan knowledge. It would HAVE to be someone who could steal as much shine as possible.
JTG was released? I wonder what they'll do with his dedicated "still has a job" site. I'm surprised McIntyre was released. I thought they were going to repackage him.
Stealing shine is one thing, but you don't want someone to be seen as taking over (think about the Rock and the Nation of Domination, for instance).
In an alternative reality scenario, AJ Styles would have been a great 3rd Shield member. The fans know who he is, but it wouldn't become the AJ Styles show.
Curtis has no claim to a world title shot. He won a tag team title shot, and got it on NXT against Team Hell No.
I'm not entirely sure how these contracts work, but I'm guessing that if Punk is sitting at home in Chicago, he's not being paid. So it's a moot point whether he's released or not, because his pay isn't showing up in the company's earnings as an expense.
With the end of the fiscal quarter coming up, dumping all these salaries might help the WWE issue a better-looking "forward guidance" (where the company announces what they expect their future profits to look like) and maybe bump up the stock price, and help Vince get back some of his net worth.
From what I read today, Vince is planning on renewing Punk's contract due to a clause in all contracts that they can be automatically renewed. Vince did this with Mysterio because of all the time he missed due to injuries and he feels that Rey "owes" the company appearances, hence the renewal. The thought process is that he will do the same with Punk so he can't sign anywhere else but Punk is not obligated to return to work.
I read that Punk was still getting his royalty cheques as Vince listed him as on sabbatical.
Interesting, If Punk is keen to stay retired I guess that's money for nothing and I imagine the share holders wont be happy as his contract is the second biggest in the company.
But how does this make room? Other than Jinder and Drew, none of the other men were actually being used, and even they were just background characters to Heath Slater, who will likely still take up a jobber segment on the show. So, how does this free up a spot for anyone other than one new Diva in place of Aksana?
Yeah, seems kinda suspicious that 1/3 of 3MB survived the ax.
I suggested this a coupla days ago in this thread, but now I think it may come to pass: Slater gets recruited to The Real Americans; the tag team starts feuding with Rusev; the "USA, USA" chants combine with "WE THE PEOPLE" enough to give Colter & Company a face turn.
needless to say i am not happy they have killed 3mb![]()
