Most likely Zach was in protest of having Mel in the movie.

Looks like the confirmed that Mel Gibson will not featured in the film saying, “I thought Mel would have been great in the movie and I had the full backing of Jeff Robinov and his team. But I realize filmmaking is a collaborative effort, and this decision ultimately did not have the full support of my entire cast and crew.” And by full cast and crew he probably means one Zach Galifianakis who recently hit the Comedy Death-Ray podcast revealing that he was in “deep protest” over a film (which he wouldn’t name) that he was currently shooting. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out he was talking about “The Hangover 2.”

“I’m in a deep protest right now with a movie I’m working on, up in arms about something. But I can’t get the guys to
[listen] ... I’m not making any leeway,” he said. Well, it looks like Phillips finally saw just how much Gibson’s presence in the film was going to frustrate one of the film’s stars and we’d imagine, Galifianakis wasn’t the only one not comfortable with giving Gibson an easy pass back into Hollywood.

At any rate, production continues and we guess they’ll have to find someone new to make a cameo in the film. Any suggestions? “The Hangover 2” hits theaters without Mel Gibson on May 26, 2011.

I didn't think they should exploit Mel for his crazy antics at a time like this anyway.

Ok well if thats what Zach was protesting against then I support him. Gibson shouldn't be able to bounce back by a cameo like this. I'm guessing he was thinking he could do what Tom Cruise did in Tropic Thunder and become "hot" again. Zach would be right to protest and I'm glad Gibson's out

I think it's a little dangerous to romanticize a guy like Mel.

Now, I agree that Polanski shouldn't get any slack, but Mel is a more public persona and people know who he is.

According to many sources the cast banded together and got Gibson ejected from the film...

Awesome!

Only Zach seemed to be the most vocal about it...if in fact that is what he's referencing in that interview.

Good move by Phillips...Gibson probably assumed that a cameo in a huge blockbuster comedy like Hangover 2 would rejuvenate his reputation in Hollywood and the general population.

And lets be real here, it has happened before.

Sadly there are people out there posting things like , Zach is a hack , Mel is god , yadda yadda yadda...

Everyone makes mistakes but they don't deserve a free pass all the time.

Screw Zach. Like a cameo in this movie was gonna absolve him of his sins to the public. It was a cameo. A chance to see a professional Mel not drowned in his personal BS. I was looking forward to it. So like I said, screw Zach.

Lol, yeah, you should pretty much say screw you to most of the cast and crew since I really doubt Zach could have pulled it off himself.

Good for Zach and the rest btw. Its good to see people band together and voice their disapproval over including someone so gross into their work.

Jamie made a good point on TMT. How can you disapprove of Gibson and not Tyson?

thats true. I guess a fair amount of time has passed with Tyson. Gibson was just recently in the news for his indiscretions

Because apparently, he doesn't mind when someone is charged with rape, and a 3 year prison sentence. :oldrazz:

But does it really matter? Should Larry David have excluded Michael Richards from the Seinfeld reunion on Curb Your Enthusiasm because of his indiscretions? I'm not defending what Gibson did, but he is an actor. If it made sense for him to play the role, or would've added to the movie, who cares about what an ass he is in his personal life. We all have coworkers we dislike. Just do your job and move on.

Because Tyson was playing Tyson.

It was stupid to have Mel play someone that wasn't himself, when obviously famous people outsode of the main cast are still "famous" people in the Hangover-world.

Well, Mike Tyson did serve his time. Mel Gibson is still in the middle of an investigation and we're not sure if he's guilty or not yet. Although, on Deadline.com, they made an interesting point about how Hollywood loves Roman Polanski, a fugitive from the law, but Gibson is an outcast. Double standard...and a BIG one.

Bradley Cooper, Zach Gianafikis and Ed Helms are all huge now. Should they have dropped the pretense and played themselves?

Another fair point. And we know that Polanski is guilty. Gibson is a ****** person, but in my estimate he is only really guilty of saying bad things. Its not like he raped anyone ala Tyson and Polanski.

I think maybe part of the problem was that to the cast and crew it would look like having Mel in their movie would be like shrugging off his racism/sexism. Theres also the fact that the dude's never even apologized for the things hes said.

Michael Richards has apologized for his actions and a lot of time had passed after that incident in the comedy club so it was cool for him to sort of come back. Also, I really doubt he's even racist. From what I understand, what he said was as a result of hecklers.

As for Tyson, his sexual assault was almost two decades ago and he paid for his crime. The only other troubling incident that I can remember after the assault was biting Holyfield's ear, but since then he's not been involved in any sort of criminal behavior. Also, Tyson's not a massive *****ebag like Mel Gibson so he had that going for him. Lol.

Its a tough call. I'm not sure whats really acceptable. Tyson, Polanski and Gibson have all made very public **** ups, each is facing different sort of backlashes I guess. All around I'm sort of indifferent to the cameo at this point. It really wouldn't add or detract from the film so it's sort of whatever.

How do you know? Have you read the script, and know exactly what role Mel would have played?

Eh, Mel Gibson is an actor. His personal life is his personal life, not mine. If he could have had that cameo and it would have been funny, then great for me, the viewer. I'm not too big a fan of the whole cast getting together to drop Gibson's cameo. Like Matt said, it's not like the dude raped anyone.

Personally, this is why I try not to learn about actor's personal lives. I really don't care what charities an actor supports or what their favorite drug of use is. I just want to see them do one thing and that's act. Now if they do something criminal and they disappear from public view, so be it, but if they're still making movies I enjoy then I'm going to watch them.

Besides, Hollywood is a fickle *****. People will be hating on Mel today and come next year everyone will be singing his praises. The politics of Hollywood are no different than a High School popularity contest.

Yeah, I wasn't excited before, but this kills any hope I had for this. You can tell Mel has a great sense of humor even though he's a racist wife beater. His cameo would have been amazing.

It's too soon for mel. Its almost like his agents were probably thinking, oh great we hooked mel up in hangover 2 now all his past mis-deeds will be forgiven (dusts hands).

Good on zach.

fantastic point to bring up Polanski.

and a big WTF from me. Tyson raped a girl? whaaaaaaaaaaaaat?
