The Dark Knight Harley Quinn

The closest we got to Harley Quinn was Jerry Hall's Alicia, some three years before Harley was created. We all know how Burton's Joker treated her- deforming her face and pushing her from a window to her death.

He wouldn't treat her differently just because she was infatuated with him, he'd still kill her in the same way he'd kill a close friend (Bob, for example).

I don't understand the thinking process of people who can't envision Harley being adapted in a way that would fit Nolan's world. This is not a guy made of mud or a child helping Batman fight criminals. Her character has very good potential for translation to Nolan's world and in no way need be campy. Doesn't it occur to you guys that Nolan can adapt her without having her just whining all the time and repeating "Puddin" or "Mistah J" every 2 minutes she's onscreen? Just throw that in a couple of times like Wolverine's "Bub"s in the X-movies and focus on portraying her with solid substance.

And why exactly would this Joker not want a brainwashed (and sexy) female groupie who obeys his every whim, ecstatically helps perpetuate his anarchic mission, and gives him an object for psychological/physical abuse? How would this Joker not adore and exploit the fact that he managed to completely brainwash the psychiatrist assigned to treat him, turning her into a subservient?

And think about the great moral dilemma Batman would be faced with when dealing with her. She is willfully helping Joker perpetrate his heinous crimes, yet it is really because she is Joker's victim. How culpable is she? I always liked how in TAS Batman tried to get her rehabilitated instead of just dismissing her as evil.

I agree. I think Harley is actually one of the few villains left that could work in Nolan's Batman. Most of them wouldn't. I would love to see her in the next one.

Of course the uncertain fate of the Joker presents a problem.

The more I think about it, the more I feel that Nolan may very well replace Joker with Harley in Batman 3. In the very least, I'm certain he'll give this idea some serious consideration.

Bull!

Mad Hatter, Scarface, Bane, Riddler, Penguin, Poison Ivy.

I think Harley could fit into Nolan's vision but don't count the rest of the villains out.

I really wouldn't want to see Harley without the Joker. It would be really difficult to do without coming off as really cheap. Think of Birds of Prey, or that terrible idea of having her team up with Scarecrow in Batman 5, "avenging" Joker's death. It comes off as a pale substitute for the real thing (the Joker himself).

I love Harley, but she works best with the Joker. The only time she works solo (like in her comic series) is when he's been spurned by the Joker and has her own agenda. To have her just continue his agenda is weak.

Riddler indeed would work well in the Nolanverse.

I agree. I've been telling people this for a long time, and I'd really hoped that he'd be in this one.

Riddler could fit in even a regular cop drama, as mana of them involve antagonists of incredible genius.

I'm all about the Riddler in the third installment. If TDK doesn't do it, we definitely need a Batman movie that highlights Bruce's innate intelligence like TAS and the comics do. In fact, Bruce's aptitude for solving puzzles in Batman Forever was pretty much my favorite part of watching it.

Nolan's Batman is cunning, smart, heroic, and thorough, but his advanced problem solving skills never get a huge highlight. He figures out how Ra's is planning on dispersing the toxin, a way to stop it, etc, but it's all kind of blown over really quick. I'd like to see Nolan's Batman have to solve riddles throughout the movie, escape bizarre traps, match wits, that kind of thing.

I'm almost interest in a theme of the third movie being Batman's questioning whether or not he is the right person to be Gotham's protector. In the first movie, it's sheer will power and strength, necessity. In the second movie, it's "can I do this forever", and the third being "can I do this forever". His genius, his ability to stay ahead of the game would be a big part of this.

I'll restate that, would the Batworld be happy with just a cameo role, and a nod to Harley? Or do you want an actual character to accompany the Joker (for future films)

Although I'm sure Nolan could work this character in and do it justice, I'd rather see it as a cameo.

Thats what I was thinking.

heh. i could see like her existing, but not being associated with the joker. remember those girls who would hang out in the courtroom during the night stalkers trial? poor ****ed up idiots who for some reason worshipped this rapist and murderer. that should be harley. and then she should meet the joker and run up and hug him because she loves him. and he should stab her.

I think that aside from the stabbing and hugging part, maybe if there are a bunch of people with clown paint on, and a chick with the Harley Quinn outfit on jumping around with a poster or something. Or just a name shout out from a police officer or someone from Arkham would be a cool little nod to the fans I'd think.

Well, fairly soon after Batman Begins (and quite a while before any real news came out about the sequel), I drafted up an outline and the beginnings of a screenplay for two subsequent films. My writing actually ended up shockingly close to what we're getting, with the notable exception of Harley as a major player.

My second film started with The Joker continuing his reign of terror, as an outlaw closely tracked by Batman, although they had yet to meet face to face. Joker was turning the mob against each other, attacking Gordon, killing Loeb, and attempting to drive Harvey Dent insane (similar to his attempt with Gordon from TKJ) - this included killing Rachel, who was dating Harvey.

Wayne Enterprises is overseeing the rebuilding and improvement of Arkham Aslyum, including the appointment of a new head doctor to replace Crane (who appears and is caught by Batman in the opening scene) - Harleen Quinzel. Bruce meets Harleen at a function at his penthouse congratulating Harvey for his position as D.A. They go out on a date, in which she shows significant hostility towards Bruce when he implies something negative about her inmates, whom she has incredible sympathy for. This is reiterated later in a scene where Batman violently interrogates Crane at Arkham, and Harleen enters the room, screaming at Batman and throwing him out.

Joker does his stuff, blah blah, gets caught by Batman. Is treated by and seduces Harleen, who is present at his hearing. In the courtoom, Harleen sneaks acid to the Joker, who scars Harvey. The film ends with Joker and Harley Quinn escaping, and Two-Face being born.

The second film would follow the exploits of Two-Face as he hunts down the Joker, with Batman caught in between.

I like this idea. My concept would be Harley having been obsessed with the Joker, almost stalking. In number 3, if the Joker is inded dead, she could put on a villainous persona and be the villain with two-face.

these two I think could. But I personally don't want to see the Penguin again and the other ones aren't all that great as villains. Sure they could work but meh.

I will have to admit though, I wouldn't have though Ras al Ghul and Scarecrow would work in a more "realistic" setting either though and was proven wrong so who knows.

Everyone likes Ivy because they want an excuse to see a hot young starlet squeeze her breasts into a lacy green gown.

And no one wants that more than me, heh. I just think you could do better than Ivy - namely Catwoman.

Especially if Rachel departs
, we definitely need a woman in the boy's club. It's a damn sausagefest.

I'll take any female lead if it means that we can get rid of Rachel Dawes. After Holmes' performance, there is no way that character can be saved.

If they aren't going to have a Joker in the third film, they should have him be in arkham, but Harley Quinn continue his work in Gotham.

Without really thinking outside the box, I think Marley Shelton would be good for Harley Quinn

I'm hoping for a classy, gun-running, Philip Seymour Hoffman-esqu Penguin...

I have been saying this very thing as well. Hoffman is a great actor who would continue to bolster the casting in this franchise. I also I agree with the comments about riddler having great potential in Nolans world.
