Superman Returns Harry talks with Bryan Singer!

Harry Knowles - I saw that Warner Brothers has announced that they were heading into development on a SUPERMAN RETURNS sequel, and mentioned that you were attached. Have you really fallen that in love with the Superman world?

Bryan Singer - I love it very much, I can’t say that I’m officially attached yet, we’ve just begun those discussions, but there is certainly an interest in moving forward and the relationship to the experience, though very difficult, of making the film, logistically, at Warners was a really really really good one at Warner Brothers. So the side point is, if they decide they want me, after they’ve seen the film, to do a sequel. We all got along so wonderfully, that the logic says that it makes sense to move forward together on a sequel. Plus there are things that have been layered into the film that would lend themselves to a sequel, much as I did on the X-MEN series. Not saying it won’t be satisfying in the end, it’s not a two parter. But the business part about inking a deal or figuring out a schedule, we haven’t done that specifically yet, nor is there a script.

So as we can see, Singer is going to be in making sequels! Awesome news

yeah, there was news on the SHH front page a while back that Singer would most likely helm the sequel if and when WB greenlights it, even said production may start around late 2007.

If SR makes huge box office (it will, I am sure), then we will get sequels.

So if it is so, SR2 will be released on July 1st 2009 and SR3 will be released on June 29th 2012.

God, AICN is AWFUL!
I only go there when I really want to read something (i.e Bryan Singer interview).
Why are they letting people be so rude and disrespectful? Get a mod...

That's part of the charm of AICN. Everyone can say whatever they want, and people are able to get a better barometer of what others think of things. If one is offended, simply don't go to the site. Personally, I like AICN, and I like this site. Apples and oranges. Both offer good information, and I can say things there, that I might not be able to say here.

Rather specific, aren't you?

or its curse ;). i dont think you can ever form an intelligent discussion there. its always about who can shout the loudest or pull a stunt that would get the most attention.

If Batman Begins prooved anything. You dont need to make 3 to 400 Million to warrant a Sequel.

^Bingo...

Now, the sequel to Begins will make serious bank at the box office. If I'm any film opening against the sequel in Summer of 2008, I'd be scared of the Batman sequel.

um, Superman Returns cost twice as much as Batman Begins so it must make alot more to warrant a sequel.

Outside of how much Begins cost to made. It was CRITICALLY LOVED & loved by most of the Batman Fanbase & General Audiene (those that understood it)

I think a key factors to Sequels is how People like the first & Batman Begins had amazing Good Word Of Mouth & Movies DO NOT MAKE ALL OF ITS MONEY BACK IN BOX OFFICE THESE DAYS

DVDs make more then Box Office does. So really you can NOT judge a Movie getting a Sequel based on Box Office these days. While yes this Movie will more then likely make more then enough Money in the Box Office the real sales like with ANY OTHER MOVIE these days will be depended on DVD

MoviesKickAss is two for two this morning.

The studios technically make the most of their profit on DVD sales not theatrical box office.

Again, I see Superman Returns going the route of Batman Begins; as in great word of mouth and praise from the critics (70 to 75%) and very good box office but not Pirates 2 box office.

It'll get its sequel.

Returns will make at least 250 million at the domestic box office. Internationally, at least 200 million. Add DVD and merchandising sales to that and you'll get your sequel.

WB is very confident in this film. It seems that part of the review embargo has been lifted since these mini-reviews started popping up, which have praised everything about the film and it's director.

WB is handling everything just right.

Or somehow incorporate a catchphrase or accidently come up with a new one.

I wonder if there's a "IT'S TOO SOON!!" in that talkback somewhere....

BTW, Harry was so...weasely in that interview. "No, Mr Singer. I never said anything bad and I supported you from the beginning". Yet Harry also supported that godawful and notorious Abrams script.

Then Singer alludes to the fact that Peters may not have been responsible for "giant spiders" and "polar bears" and suddenly Harry bends and starts to blame Kevin Smith, whom I thought was a friend of Knowles.

Harry is so two faced. I definetely picked up on that. Hes so full of crap, as kevin was pretty much the only guy who tried to do a faithful superman lives script

ugh... could that fat *****ebag kiss more ass.

"hey, uh, hey brian, remember, do you remember that i was always been supportive of your version? do you?"

even though this is the fat cow that was pushing for the jj abrahms or who ever "re-vamped" version because the studio ws being so nice to him, isn't it?

Really? I get a feeling most of the users there are waiting for Harry to say white so that they could say black.
In a way his support of SR can do the movie damage.

BINGO!!!!!!

I was just watching 'If it bleeds we can kill it" the special on the Predator DVD. Predator took 15 years to finally break even, and it has what, 2 sequels, and probably another in the future.

Box office doesn't mean anything when DVD's are twice the price of a theatre ticket. DVD is where the movie makes or breaks the bank
