Superman Returns Has the 3rd act 'grown' on you?

Is there a difference here, if there is I'm missing it.

If it lessened the effect he wouldn't have plummeted to earth after releasing NK. He would have been able to fly back to earth but would have been struggling.

Delaying the effect would mean that it would still hit him like a brick, like it did, but just not right away because of the sun.

Seems different to me?

Maybe it was like the Wal-mart version of Kryptonite...half the price, half the strength.

OK, I see what you mean, but Green K should have an immediate effect on Superman, for me a delay equals a lessening of it's effective potency. We could be discussing semantics.

I think you are right my friend. :yay:

maybe Lex's kryptonite was really from the 99 cents store...........looks like kryptonite.....but cheap in quality........but it's only 99 cents!!! lol

Since we were discussing Green K in SR.

Exactly how does everyone understand the effect of Green K.

Here's my understanding........it's quite a bit different than most tellings, but I believe it to be accurate.

The radiation emmitted by Green K immediately upon exposure creates an extreme state of debilitating weakness in Superman. It does not render him powerless(big difference in what most believe), however the magnitude of the infirmity it instills makes Superman ineffectual in that he cannot move, unable to help himself or others. This makes Superman in the case of any active use of his abilities effectively "powerless", however he remains invulnerable. Prolonged exposure results in death.

He may avoid disasterous exposure because the effect worsens as proximity increases. Quite simply he recognizes the symptoms, and takes an ounce of prevention, he keeps his distance, where he can use his range powers i.e heat vision, superbreath, etc. Adversaries must go to some length to lure an unsuspecting Man of Steel to his doom.

thats how i interpret supes and K afan. and every thing i have watched or read of supes from some comics, superman the movie, lois and clark, smallville, superman animated series etc have shown this consistency. but no SR...it does at first.. it shows just how incapacitating it makes him just by lex,s punch and the henchmen beating on the Kisland...that was an awesome scene and i was sold. then his stabbing added to dire effects of K followed by the drowning ala supes the movie.
but then for the film to ignore this in the subsequent scenes is what ruins this movie for me. its poor writing, just to hammer home the jesus analogies. to have supes pick up this k island that he was useless ion before and should be useless around. esspecially with it growing all around him is unforgivable to me...esspecially when u find out he still had a shard in him.....
this means he should never of been able to fly up to get bathed in gods light [the sun] in the 1st place...
so much for his achilles heel. it means **** now....if he can carry an island of it into space!!
stupid movie.

So speaking as someone who WATCHED the thing.

How did Superman survive the plummett from NK into the ocean? Surely a fall from the height depicted in the film should be fatal to a mortal man, which Superman was, under the effect of the Green K.

Well the way i saw it was there was a lot more K on top of the island, as he got towards the bottom, there was less of it on the island, so only the peice in his back was effecting him. It might not have drained his powers completely.

I agree with some of what you mention Nogster, as i have said before, the shard in his back should have been cut and it would have made the scene make a lot more sense. As we can see when NK first comes out of the ocean there is no K on the bottom, Superman is halfway to space before it starts growing through the bottom and the charge up from the Sun and his determination get him to space. As far as i know K has no effect on Superman if it is covered with something.

Didn't Lex explained that the crystals and whatever surrounded them kind of get mixed up?

Only if the something is lead, in any thickness, even wafer thin lead foil, blocks the radiation.

I thought it was if anything covered it, oh well my mistake.

It certainly has with me, when i first watched SR i ever so slightly dissapointed with the 3rd act, i thought it was not action-packed or dramatic enough. But every subsequent viewing i have had of the movie i have just grown to love the 3rd act, its now the part of the movie i look forward to most. Everything from Superman getting into the elevator until the the end credits is just great viewing IMO, especially the beating, the lifting of NK and the subsequent unconscious descent from space.

This happened with anyone else?

Everytime i watch this Travesty of a film i have to be consoled by family and friends based on the that my Favourite Ficitional character has been butchered.

Opinion vary of course. Good 'ole SR has single-handedly led to the development of carpal tunnel syndrome in quite a few people considering the amount of time they spend posting on these boards.

Its only a movie buddy, take it easy, its not even a bad movie at that, i personally love it.

For me, the movie kinda falls apart and drags on after Superman falls to the ground from throwing NK into space. I don't like the hospital scene, especially seeing Lois kiss Superman on the lips when she is still engaged to Richard. Seeing Superman in a hospital just seems out of place for me. Then he just gets up and flies away without thanking anyone for saving his life(if the doctors didn't remove that piece of kryptonite, it's possible he would have died). Then, Superman just showing up at the house and talking to Jason didn't seem right either. What if Richard walked by and saw this? I don't like the fact that we don't see Superman and Lois addressing the issue of them having a son together either.

ditto everything.

I didnt feel that it dragged at all after Superman crashed-landed back on Earth from space. IMO it was just closing certain things up and setting other things up for a sequel.
