Have Fangirls Caught Up With Fanboys?

Those are some horny little girls and women, kinky and horny.

No, just freaks.

I think it's good that girls can get as invested in something as us blokes can with comics or whatever.

But thanks to the ****ing freako Twilight fans there will be much more of a backlash. And rightly so. Some of these girls are absolutely terrifying. You hear of people being stabbed because they diss the book. Or beaten up.

Honestly? If some freak ***** threatened me for dissing the book I'd slap her, and I'm normally totally against hitting women. But as far as I'm concerned these freaks ain't even human.

The freaks have caused a backlash before woman have even established themselves as fan girls. So normal fan girls will be tainted with the same brush as the freaks by a lot of people.

maybe girls who ask an actor to bite them are crazy.

but what about a fanboy at comic con asking Megan Fox if she would film a sex tape?

and how many times did a guy ask a hot celebrity to f... him?

While both are creepy totally. The nerd wants to bang Megan Fox regardless of whether she's a movie star or not. The only reason they're asking to be bitten is because they're putting Pattinson-Edward into one person.

twilight is one movie series, guys are the driving force behind dozens. What i don't understand about the twilight fans is that most of them i know didn't even like the first movie, like at all, but they still saw it like 4 times and bought the dvd, and were first in line to see this. it makes no gorram sense.
It's because of the tabloids.

I don't know if you guys are following the New Moon numbers or not, but aside from the record breaking midnight numbers it's also on track to break the single day record.

So, the question has to be asked, have fangirls finally caught up with fanboys?

For YEARS, girls dominated when it came to music. If a popular boy band was around, you knew it was gonna break records of some sort. And, TV...I guess...to some degree was dominated by them too. Friends was the #1 show for a long time, right? :cwink: Yet, when it came to movies, guys dominated. Still do, actually. Look at Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Pretty bad movie, but things blew up and Megan Fox was around. What more can an average moviegoing male ask for? But, with New Moon it seems like girls have pulled a fast one on us. Is this a sign of things to come or just a bump on the road? Titanic was a bump on the road...but a huge one!
It's a sign dude 2012 The Mayans predicted this!

Fangirls have ALWAYS outnumbered fan boys...

anyone remember that boat movie with leo dicaprio?

You people forgettin' Titanic ? 15 rewatches on average !

Thank you! Finally caught up? If we’re counting women as being integral to the success of shows like Friends or movies like Pirates of the Caribbean, I would say they displayed a good portion of their buying power with Titanic. It’s not like fanboys were rushing to theaters multiple times a day to replay the love story between “Kate and Leo.”

Also, I wouldn’t necessarily call Titanic a bump in the road anymore than I would call Sex and the City a bump in the road or even the Twilight Saga. Women have always displayed buying power. Hollywood executives just seem quick to forget it.

But how many movies have come and gone since then? It's a powerful group but too hard to capture.

POTC, 300, and etc all had sizeable female prescence but a movie floated entirely by women to such large numbers? We still need to see the final bo gross of this movie.

Sex and the City, Devil Wears Prada, and Mamma Mia. All did well.

Yeah. It's far better than the Twilight movies... regardless of the backlash it got after it won numerous Oscars. And it was genuinely moving, the two leads had chemistry, and the special effects still hold up after 12 years.

It's a sad drop from the likes of Titanic to the Twilight franchise. James Cameron knew how to tell a romantic story, Stephanie Meyer just piles on the soap.

That's not representative of all of the fans, though, not by a longshot. I can't stand Twilight but I have friends who are fans - all of whom are in that somewhat creepy adult demographic (hell, I'm over 30 and I read them all too). But none of them are creepy, and most of them admit the books are total cheese. That's what they love about it.

The craziest thing I ever saw one of them do was go to the midnight release party for the DVD this year, and that was only because we'd just finished seeing a Broadway show and noticed there was a party at Borders. I didn't stay for the whole thing, but the people that were there were behaving fine. They were just excited - it wasn't any different than any other midnight release party.

Yeah, they are crazy girls out there...but I've seen guys say things about actresses (particularly underage ones) that are downright scary. The creepiness factor works both ways.

Why do fanboys always act so shocked that women like comics, or get invested in a film or TV series? Are some of you really living the nerd who can't get a date sterotype? Or is it just some sort of weird denial where men think that being a fan is only a male sphere?

This has been going on since the sixties. The Beatles were the first example of major fangirling, but it wasn't the only one. Do you think it was a coincidence that Chekov and his Monkee's hair-do were added to the second season of Star Trek? If the net had existed back then we would had a ton of women fangirling over Kirk and writing fanfic. Some are doing that now as a matter of fact. And comics have been full of characters that were obviously meant to appeal to female readers; Wonder Woman, and in X-Men I would argue that Dazzler and Kitty Pryde were attempts to get girls reading. It just wasn't as socially acceptable.

I've been saying this for a while now, and I'll say it again; fanboys and every other hardcore nerd need to chill the f*** out about Twilight. Yeah it is terribly written mysogynistic crap. The movies suck. But I think a majority of fans understand that and can appreciate it for the lulz, like danyose was pointing out. And for those that don't, well, they will likely move on or find other things like Buffy or True Blood that are more substantial. And if they don't get over it, I don't really care either. Fanboys like tons of stupid crap and geek out over it in tons of ways. Yet they don't take half the s*** these girls do over their fandom.

The Beatles? Try Frank Sinatra. I've read that in his younger days some women were so desperate to keep their seats at his concerts that they wouldn't even leave if they had to go to bathroom and wound up wetting their seats. :wow:

When I was in London last year, we saw the red carpet premiere of High School Musical 3 - it was madness. It had to be well over a thousand kids, most of them chanting "WE WANT ZAC! WE WANT ZAC!" and when Zac Efron finally showed up the screaming nearly blew my eardrums out.

My mom and I thought it was hilarious. Neither of us had any interest in the movie, but it was fun watching the kids go nuts out there. And the movie did really well. It may not have been a movie for me, but it was for them and I'm glad they enjoyed it.

I've been a fangirl forever, grew up obsessed with Star Wars and Star Trek, love Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit and Harry Potter, I've only gotten into the comics thing the last 10 years or so but I love that too. Hell, I'm watching TDK on HBO right now.

But some nights...I just want to put my Sex and the City DVDs on, or watch a romantic comedy. If I'd actually liked Twilight, I would have been seeing that this weekend too.

This is purely my opinion on this matter
It's not so much that (some) fanboys dislike it when women get invested in something. I think alot of fanboys will mores appreciate it when women like something THEY like. IF chicks love flicks like Iron Man , Batman etc , fanboys would be very happy with this. It's a difference thing when something so female oriented like twilight. That's just something that guys will never understand. And that understanding can easily turn into hostility when something that is very prescious to a fanboy is crushed by that women investment. Like for example how many Batman geeks/comic geeks in general are pissed by Twilight breaking TDK's opening day record.
Personally i don't mind if women have something they like. That's just the way things go . What i don't like ( and this applies to to both men and women) is when you love something so much that it turns into an obsession. And when people are so obsessed with something that they don't realise that they're supporting something that's crappy .
That's how i view the Twilight movies . Mediocre flicks that IMO aren't deserving for those records. Women can definately do better .

btw i was totally expecting this thread to be this "OMG twilight sucks " vs "TWILIGHT ROCKS , YOU MEN ARE JUST PIGS " kinda thing. Instead many of the posts here are in fact funny and well written.
Guess you can count on Hypesters after all :woot:

And that's just silly. Why do women have to like what men like for it to be acceptable? It's not like guys are always right about the stuff they watch either.

Obsession is a bad thing no matter who you are or what it's over. It's certainly not limited to gender.

The reaction you're talking about is much more of a teenage response.

As adults, I think men appreciate when their girl can like something geeky, even if it is not what they like.

I was going to a major comic convention, and due to scheduling none of my geek friends could go on the same day as me. I know a girl who loves Smallville, and she volunteered to go. This girl is ridiculously good looking...but she went. Half of the time at the convention we did stuff I didnt really want to do because it was something she was interested in...but I was there! My time spent being bored at Twilight nonsense was rewarded with me getting to see a bunch of stuff that I wanted to see, and have a buddy with me.

It's kind of an introduction point. Girls who dont read comics can be talked into reading a Buffy comic. That is a big deal! Girls who dont like horror will watch Twilight...and maybe Let The Right One In...and if they watch that then why not go further???

This is a good thing, for sure. I still believe that fanboys are still social pariahs while fangirls are just normal girls...but I dont necessarily blame girls for that.

I’ve read a dozen reviews on imdb and most people were disappointed in the movie. It’s mind boggling that most of them didn’t like their first viewing of the film, but they plan on watching it again or have already seen it twice. Just to see if they missed something. I don’t understand the logic behind this. If I was disappointed with a movie, why would I want pay money to see it again.

Many of them have read all the books. Therefore they may feel obligated to watch the movie. Whether they did or didn’t like series, most women still went and watched New Moon. Are fangirls forcing themselves to like something that isn’t great to begin with? Or are they in denial that Twilight is a terrible series, but paying money to see shirtless guys are well worth it.

I've meet met plenty of fangirls.I've been to to two conventions in my area and the men to women ratio is almost even.Sure most of the girls were anime instead of comic book fangirls. But fangirls none the less. There are a lot more then one would think and a lot of them were cosplaying. While my girlfriend isn't a fangirl per say she is very supportive of me and she's into it a bit now too.Still Fangirl power is nothing new.Wasn't Sailor Moon one of the most successful animes of all time with a mostly female fan base? Also wasn't the WB kept afloat for year by a mostly female audience?I think the backlash has more to do with the fact that the first movie and the books(So I've heard) are a really poorly put together narrative.I saw the first movie and couldn't understand it's popularity.I mean the characters are pretty bland and if any guy acted like Edward in real life he'd get arrested or at the very least a restraining order. My fear is a bunch of tweens are going to gro up and see abusive as "romantic"

Where have you been??? How many Fanboys saw Ghost Rider? How many STILL defend Spider-Man 3?? Wolverine was a hit with fanboys even after they had seen the leaked version and didn't like it. Heck, look at the comic industry...how many Fanboys buy everything with an X on the cover despite the fact that a decade will go by without a single quality storyline???

I’m sorry but coming from a casual moviegoer. I’ll watch anything once, but if I didn’t like a movie on my initial viewing, I will absolutely NOT pay money to see it again. When I was growing up I loved Batman and seen all of the films. I bought the toys and comic books, but then as I gotten older I no longer feel the need to get into the Bat mania any longer. I wonder if fanboys ever grow up or get out of a certain phase in life.

Those are some horny little girls and women, kinky and horny.

Twilight chicks are atleast sane(er) then Predator fangirls. My goodness, you ever read about how a 13 year old has sexual intercourse with a Predator. :o

I have. And dear lord....

fanboys are no better. They will rip apart some superhero/graphic novel movie, trash the costume, the actors, writing and directing, yet will see the movie a dozen times, buy the dvd, action figures, etc...

That is also true. However, sometimes, even if the movie sucks, the merch is cool. See AvP and AvP-R

quality doesnt matter. if the girls are into it, they will get it. they will pay. not to be sexist but women get what they want hahaha

I'm not gonna tell someone they can't like something. But when I see THIS :

I pray someone doesn’t write a romance series about Zombies and Mummies. I can’t picture a girl meeting a gorgeous Zombie who doesn’t eat people, because he’s a vegetarian.

I'm pretty sure this has already happened in a newer and god awful Day of the Dead remake that I think was straight to video.
